  It is obvious that jehovahs witnesses are not proud of their religion.

  one could rightly expect, considering the urgency of the times, and the need 'to preach the good news of the kingdomtm' before the end arrives, that jws would be doing all they could to encourage 'like-heartedtm' ones along to their place of worship/study/meeting (or whatever they wish to call their kingdom hallstm).

  instead, from my observations, they are doing their best to make the halls as uninviting as possible.. the case in point.

  several days ago i drove past the front entrance to the fairly new kingdom hall in ballina where i spent my formative years in 'the truthtm'.

  At times the chain link fence, etc is due to crime in the neighborhood. I agree that it is sad when a KH looks like a fortress, but in high crime areas a chain link fence may not be that bad an idea and security cams used to moniter the parking lots is an even better idea.

  Most of tha halls here are nice. My old hall in SE OK always had the light burn out on the sign and they'd take months to replace them. As it was in the country with no street lights, it looked like there was no identifying sign up at all

  many of the people on this site say that they are apostates.

  but that is not the way i feel about myself.. i am not angry with the "witnesses" or the organisation, i don't feel that i wasted my life.

  i just think that i was stupid to believe it for 30 years (well sort of believe it, i did have severe doubts on and off).

  when i was in bethel around 1975,,i was told by a few brothers while eating at my assigned table, that there was a brother there that would eat a lot(more than his fair share) and so they(gb, or higher ups) plotted to get him df'd.

  what they did was have the waiters brings all kinds od food to the table and this brother just ate and ate when we had consumed enought they brought him before a committee and df'd him for gluttony and greediness.

  is there any one here on this forum that witnessed this??

  having read both of ray franz' books and more recently 'the gentile times reconsidered' by c. o jonsson you'd be forgiven for believing that losing the 607 b.c.e date for the destruction of jerusalem would end in disaster for the society.

  sorry but i just don't think so.. i'm sure many of the long-time witnesses who know the history of the society would truly have problems but most of the dubs just don't care!

  think about it, remember all those dubs you used to hang out with.

  Whether we want to admit it or not, Witnesses are not as date/chronology oriented as they were in the past. Most witnesses don't care about the dates anymore. They simply go to church at the KH and do whatever it akes to keep them in their little church social club. If they really cared about mistaken prophesying bt the Society, they would've left in droves after they changed that generation that saw 1914 malarkey.

  3 babies contract Herpes becaue of a religious ritual

  i heard a very sad news item this morning on the way to work.. in upstate new york, a rabbi has been ordered to stop performing bris, using his mouth to suction the blood after 3 boys tested postive for herpes after receiving a bris from the same rabbi.. 2 of the boys a very sick and one has died.

  apparently herpes can be deadly on the new ammune system of babies.. does anyone know anthing about this religious ritual - why would a rabbi use his mouth to suction blood from the baby?

  I can understand that different societies place different connotations on different actions. To me, though, the thought of an adult unnecessarily placing the baby's penis in his mouth and sucking is quite questionable. Circumcison, necessary or not, is not abusive. I don't even remeber mine and have no ill effects from it.

  And Dy's comments are laced with unnecessary anitSemitic ramblings. Not a good show.

  No. I saw it on an episode of law & order:SVU though. haha.

  No, seriously, though, the person who abused me growing up continued to molest children even when he could no longer sexually function. His methods changed, but the abuse cycle continued.

  WHY DO PRISONERS DISCOVER "RELIGION"?

  why is it that a number of people who commit the most henious of crimes, suddenly become "born again christians"--usually while sitting on death row?

  do they think this somehow absolves them of what they did?

  i remember when karla fay tucker was interviewed shortly before her execution (in texas) a few years ago.

  Some people are truly remorseful. Most do it to gain sympathy or to attempt to salve their own conscience. I have llittle respect for jailhouse conversions. They usually don't last.

  Most claim that since they have found God and changed, God has forgiven them, so society should too. What a cop out. I dismiss those claims immediately. But, in some cases, the people acknowledge that they have found God but still acknowledge their indebtedness to society and just work at being better people--not at getting out early or having charges dropped. I respect those people a lot more.

  Actually castration is not 100% effective. It may curb desire, but does not make rape impossible. ANd since rape is often as much or more a crime of violence rather than desire, castration's effectiveness is limited.
