OMG!!! I have been crying for the last 2 hours...I just got Pell grant!!!!

pell grant is a federal grant for low income people that wants to go to college but doesn't have that much money to support it.. ok, here's my story.... my ex makes good money...i get divorced but they still use the "last" years tax...meaning, even though i'm not "making" that money anymore "too bad".. i've been in college for 2 1/2 years now, ending my first degree, signing up for my ba.... i was just approved for pell grants and "other" federal assistance for college!!!!!!!!.

i've been after them for 2 years and it's finally arrived.... what does that mean for me????.

my loans won't be 15,000 per degree but rather more like 4,000....i don't have to worry about buying my books anymore.

Freedom, don't mean to rain on your parade, but I'm pretty sure Pell grants are only for undergraduate degrees.

No worries...I'm still an "undergraduate" from what my financial counselor have told me.

I have 64 credits..., I'm am a sophomore (accordingly to what they are saying)...level 2 student, with a 3.69 GPA. From what they are saying, all of that goes together.

I just talked with my counselor and she still said I can still be eligible...I just received the letter saying I WAS.

Besides, even if I don't get the pell, I've been approved for other federal assistance...from the letter I received, my college will get in touch with me tomorrow.

The crying is, in some way, a good thing, right?

You have no idea!!! I've been worrying about my loans...

Crying is a WONDERFUL thing!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can complete my goal becoming a child psychologist without the worrying of MAJOR student loans.

This has opened up my goal becoming a PhD in children and psychology!!!!!!!

This was basically a golden ticket saying "yes, if you put the work in it, we'll help you with the money".

My dream is to work with children and helping them through difficult situations. This is opening up my dream to a more reasonable reality.

If I hadn't gotten my Pell Program, I would have had to stop at BA...but this will allow me to go as far as I want to....(my PhD)

I was just APPROVED FOR PELL GRANTS and "other" Federal assistance for college!!!!!!!!

What does that mean for me????

My loans won't be 15,000 per degree but rather more like 4,000....I don't have to worry about buying my books anymore. I'll have extra money to send into my (already) loans!!!! I'll get a check each month for schooling....

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO relieved at the same time, I can't believe it finally happen after all the fighting I've done. My college loans aren't going to kill me now!!! You have no idea what that means to me!!!

PS, there is a reason speeding is illegal.

Actually, that's a good point. I wouldn't let my kids be in a car if a person was irresponsible or if I didn't know them very well ...so why would I let them get around a situation that I know very little to nothing about? And with people that I don't know very well along with the person I know nothing about that will be controlling the situation.

Maybe by next year I'll understand more about the situation, get to know the friends a bit better, and I can feel more comfortable with the idea.

So, I guess, (wrapping things up)...I'm not a paranoid mother after all...I have valid concerns.

I do feel better and I don't feel so bad now being the "bad guy"...thanks to all of you!

We are going to go to the big fireworks display...and that is ALWAYS so over-the-top cool. It will be an all day play for us...hmmm, a thought just occurred to me...maybe I'll invite my friends to join us.

you don't know these people that well and without having answers to the above questions it's perfectly okay to be the bad guy and say no.

Yeah, that's my feelings. I don't even know exactly where it is going to be. After talking with Zach, he understands why I feel this way. Even though Zach felt disappointed, he feels excited about going to the big fireworks that will happen with professionals.

What kind of fireworks are they?

Really, I have no idea...just that "fireworks" were going to be happening and it "should" be fun. Besides, I don't know enough about fireworks to know which are "store-bought sissy" ones and which are the more involved.

I had already canceled and it feels "right". I haven't been staying up all night worrying about it now.

Well, I do feel a bit better deciding not to go...

Besides, I'm planning on taking the kids to Red, White, and Boom...and the following video is what they will see...Columbus ALWAYS give a great display and handled by professionals and sitting at a very safe distance.

BTW-this was last years Red,White, and Boom that was held in downtown Columbus. I've been to every one since leaving the borg.

THAT'S not a very comforting image, oompa...YIKES! And with a 3 year old???

I can just see missing toes or gouged out eyes, sliced up ears from the broken glass.

Well, as you know, we're divorce and talking doesn't come very easily anymore. I'm mainly concerned if I'm overreacting or not. Like I said, if I knew the situation a bit better, I'd be a bit more ok with it.

Bottom line, if you don't trust the person setting them off, you have made the right decision.

Well, the friend that invited me I think I know and trust...though the one that is going to set them off is young and I do not know at all.

All the friends I do know I've only known for about a year and don't know how they handle things like this.

If only I could get more information on exactly how, where and what precautions they are going to use I may feel more comfortable. But being in the "dark" so to speak sends fear through me.

If only I could have seen how they handled things when they sat them off in the past...or if somehow I could see the do it this time and see how responsible they are...I could feel a bit better.
