This dreaded day has finally came...my Kasey girl has cancer. :-(
by FreedomFrog inwe've been fighting a tumor that is on her leg...because of her age, the dr and i decided to not do surgery back in april because it would be too stressful and the tumor wasn't growing.. in the past 2 weeks, the tumor took off growing so fast that now she's in danger of it breaking open.
we are going to have the tumor removed tomorrow since the dr. said that she is happy and not in pain and can have a bit more time with her.. we may have her for another 6 months, possibly a year.
i can't put her down just yet and since the dr says she's not exactly at that point just yet, we're going to keep her until she starts going down hill.. i'll let you know when we do get to the point of actually having to put her down.. i'm scared a bit because i'm so attached to this dog as well as the kids are.

Yeah, me too casper...though we still have her for now. I know it's a very short time but still it's painful.
Can you see her eyelashes are gray as well in the top part? I think it's cute but also tells me she close to her time. I just hope the Dr doesn't tell me it'll be tomorrow.

Kasey today, resting from the excitement of the Dr visit. See her gray little (well, big) face.
Sierra, Kasey, and Zach
I caught Kasey with this doll of Sierra's a few months back. And no, this is not a "set up" picture. I just happened to walk in Sierra's room and there she was on the bed just like this...LOL

The comforting part about this is Kasey has had a WONDERFUL life. She goes camping with me, or had every year up until about a year ago when she was sleeping more and not as active as she had been.
I've had her since she was 6 months old. The old girl will still do her tricks even today (good sport), like "speaking", shaking hands/paw, and a few more tricks...though we don't do that much more because it's time for her to just enjoy life and be lazy...lol
I'm hoping we can have her for at least another year. If the cancer is only contained (in a block as the Dr described) we may very well get another year out of her. Though, tomorrow they will do testings on her liver/heart/kidneys to make sure. It all depends on those test whether or not we will continue on the with the surgery or have to put her down.
The Dr and staff have been wonderful. They have taken care of her since '96 maybe '97 when we moved in Columbus. Because they knew her and know us and know of money being tight, the surgery will only be $200 and I can make 3 payments. The surgery would normally cost $700. so I got a big discount. They also knew that if it was more than I could afford, I would have had no choice but to put her down. Thank goodness I have a great vet. Now I'll just hope the cancer is contained.

I'm scared a bit because I'm so attached to this dog as well as the kids are. This is going to be a very traumatic and emotional time when the final day does arrive.
I'm concerned because we may end up losing her tomorrow. We'll know around noon tomorrow.

OMG!!! I have been crying for the last 2 hours...I just got Pell grant!!!!
by FreedomFrog inpell grant is a federal grant for low income people that wants to go to college but doesn't have that much money to support it.. ok, here's my story.... my ex makes good money...i get divorced but they still use the "last" years tax...meaning, even though i'm not "making" that money anymore "too bad".. i've been in college for 2 1/2 years now, ending my first degree, signing up for my ba.... i was just approved for pell grants and "other" federal assistance for college!!!!!!!!.
i've been after them for 2 years and it's finally arrived.... what does that mean for me????.
my loans won't be 15,000 per degree but rather more like 4,000....i don't have to worry about buying my books anymore.

FF, if x=13 , isn't that unlucky?
Shhhh BFD !!! Don't say that too loud or the unlucky gods will hear. I think I can slip past them for now.
I got pell grants once, but antibiotics cured it.
LOL...that's too funny godadist
i'm a mother of 2 with a husband, and i'm too scared to go back to school, you are really amazing, you deserve it!
New Light, believe me, I was very scared at the thought of going back to school. Once I did decide to go back and was into it for about 6 months, I felt I had made a mistake but after that 6th month it became as if it was second nature. When I was in high school, I did horrible and this was where my fears were coming from. JamieBowers is right, you've got life experiences on your side.
You're still young and you're never too old to learn more. I'll be turning 37 in a month and I still have a ways to go but this college experience has been the best thing for me by far. My alGEbra (directed towards Gopher) was a big accomplishment because I could have taken this about a year ago but kept putting it off and taking the other required courses...why?...because I was in so much fear that I didn't want to face this course at that time. Now that I'm close to getting my degree, it's the only thing required left that needed to be taken. I've been in this class for 3 weeks now and the understanding came to me as if a light switch was turned on. That's a great feeling. So I strongly recommend you not to allow fear cause you not to get a college degree.
I feel everyone should get a degree regardless if they use it or not...just for the experience if nothing else.
Is there any chance this payment is retroactive to a certain date?
If so you might get a nice cheque
Lady Lee, I hadn't thought about that. That would be so awesome because this can get some of my loans I have down that I already have...it can also help me to pay for some of the books I want that deals with Psychology

Thanks John...I am....I still can't believe I'm so close to getting into my BA degree.
I have to admit, I'm tire, stressed, excited, and all the emotions you can imagine...but what keeps me going is my desire to reach my goal. My goal hasn't wavered for a very long time so I know this is right.

Just to let you know...the reasons it's taken me 2 1/2years to get to my first degree...
I'm a working single mother of two...I've had to take a few "breaks" to not get way too burned out.
My college has worked with me every step of the way. It should have been an 18 month program, but I knew that if I didn't pace myself, I would have dropped out earlier.
Imagine, a 3 year old getting lonely and climbing on your back while you are trying to figure out what
x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6) = 64 when you have no idea how algerbra works!!!!
Very freakin' hard!!!
I'm proud where I am and with what I have to deal with... 2 more blocks and my first degree...already signed up for my BA
BTW
The algerbra answers are (for those that want to know...LOL) There can be several answers for the problem
x = 13
x + 2 = 15
x + 4 = 17
x + 6 = 19
I NOW know algerbra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! heehee!!!!!
