Hope you enjoyed your day. (I have no idea what a Weatherspoon's or a float tank is.)

My First Birthday.....
by The Marvster ini awoken today and realised immidiately i'm 44 today... and after 3 years of being out, decided to acknowledge my birthday.... i'm off out to treat myself to a big hearty breakfast with cup of tea in the local weatherspoon's by the massive pond full of weird bird-life, later today i'm giving myself a gift of a 90 minute relaxation session in a float tank down by canary wharf in london.... only really have 2 close friends (it's a slow process trusting people agian) and they probably won't be able to see me today, but i'm sure i'll have a belated surprise from them both.... the first thing i did when i remembered was to rush to the computer, connect to the web and put on stevie wonder's 'happy birthday', as i listen to it, tears stream down my face... all those years of my life stolen ' but..... i'm free....'.

Did you like hymns as a jw?
by jean-luc picard ini was just explaining to mrs picard........ never a jw, and not english, how we used to celebrate the harvest festival, when i was 7 and younger, before my parents converted to jw'ism.. i loved to sing "we plough the fields and scatter".
of course, singing such hymns is, to a jw, paramount to apostasy, with the death penalty like punishment the ensued.. how really stupid their harsh rules.. did you have any favourite hymns?.
i think we would all agree, that they beat the pants off the "kingdom melodies".

Yes, some that I remember from pre-borgification are Ave Maria, Kumbaya, and Amazing Grace. -

The dictionary says people who believe in Jesus as a supernatural god are xians. jws meet that criteria.
It strikes me that all other distinctions are really things individual religions have chosen to add to the definition, which is what denominations and religions are all about--making their own definitions.
"Belong to Jesus" vs. "receiving salvation through Jesus' sacrifice" to them is a big deal, because they get to convince themselves they are the teacher's pets.
To me, it doesn't really matter which one is more "into" Jesus or any other imaginary bearded sky daddy. The bible has been massively disproven as a source of fact, truth, wisdom and morality.

Demonic Appliance Assessment Tool
Was the oven purchased at a garage sale?
Did the homeowners have backwards masking rock music records, wind chimes or Ouija in the house?
Have you heard whispers at night that subsided when you called out to jehoohoo?
Did the voices beg you to bake devil's food cake?
Did the oven temperature setting dial get stuck on 666 degrees?
Has an invisible force tried to have sex with you?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, please contact the elders immediately for spiritual guidance.

Why oh why would they go outside to try to stop the violent guy?
Because they had 2 angels that were supposed to by their side that only the attacker could see, thus making the attacker believe in jehoover and ask for a bible study.
What the elders did not know is the angels had taken a dinner break and were eating BBQ ribs at the time of the attack.

Living forever
by jws insomeone on facebook posted john 3:16 where it says people will live forever.. not that i believe it, but i just cannot imagine this.
this, to me, would be the true hell.. if i'm very lucky, i will live to be 100. at nearly half that, already some parts of life no longer hold much interest to me.
even tv shows.

I believe I could be very happy living forever if I was healthy, safe and financially set. There are endless new experiences to have--hike a trail, read a book, try a food--when you're done with doing everything once in about a million years, start over.
I think a big part of why we lose interest is aging. Certain things are not as exciting, and they get difficult because it becomes harder to learn new complex things, or physical limitations grow.
For example, I used to think going to a club on Saturday night was the most exciting thing on the planet. Once I did that a lot and wasn't single anymore, it wasn't as exciting. If I had the physical ability to dance all night like I did back then though, and the $ to waste ;), I'd do it even now.

You have a $100,000,000 budget to do a global campaign against the WTBS worldwide. How would you spend it?
by JWchange inwhat if by inheritance, winning the lottery or any other way, you suddenly got your hands on $150m after tax.
you maybe would spend a third of this giving your extended family financial security for life.
you maybe would buy a boat and a few investment properties.

I wouldn't spend that $ on jws at all, but that is beside the point in this fantasy. :)
Mine would be all aimed at prevention, not saving current jws, because that is much more effective.
1. Hire legal experts to identify high impact, highly possible legal strategies that could be implemented to significantly reduce cult growth...and implement them in a well thought out, productive manner.2. Internet and TV ad campaigns that are professionally created and vetted for effectiveness in cult reduction not just ex-cultists getting catharsis or revenge. The intended audience would be non-cultists and the general message would be reducing the social acceptability of cults.
3. Hire professional advocates to activate the public to supplement the multi-media campaign with these proven strategies.
4. Include a single hashtag in a social media campaign all at once to get it trending (which I suggested on this forum but nobody seems interested).
5. Hire professionals to implement strategies designed to spread anti-cult messaging to visitors to pages with pro-cult messaging (in a legal manner).
All of these things would have metrics monitored to ensure they are effective and tweaked if they are not.

City of Sodom discovered

The "Bible scholars" are saying it "might be" Sodom.
If Sodom is found, excuse me, but big whoop. Rome is also mentioned in the bible--another real city.
The melted stuff they found has plausible explanations within the natural universe (meteor shower). This further proves the fact that the Sodom story is one of many myths developed by pre-scientific people to explain things they didn't understand. If anything, this discovery reiterates the fact that the Bible contains myths.
