Well, I've started controversies many times. LOL
But truly, this time, I am just telling you a story of what a non-jw is doing to try to deprogram a jw. This was not instigated by me in any way. The topic of foreskins was chosen by him.
it seems like mobilizing after the election, which seems pointless.
i keep hearing demands for equal rights but don't understand what rights they are missing exactly.. normally a march is to show the support (and potential votes) for a cause, but ... votes for what?
... and the election happened already.. is anyone else confused?
It is nice to feel a sense of community and support, but beyond that, I don't know what the march accomplishes.
I have zero expectation that Cheeto gives a flying you-know-what about women's marches.
There are so many well-intended advocacy efforts done improperly that result in no or negative impact. This is especially true when there are strong emotions and lack of professional guidance. We see this a lot in the ex-jw world.
I was tempted to go, and tried to find out about the event and its aim. The website (for my city's march) had 2 vague sentences about its purpose, which was basically, "Stand up for your rights."
Advocacy without a good strategy is just venting your feelings. I can do that at the corner bar.

necessary as it is at times, i hate this word.
for one thing, "ones" is a plural form of the number 1. that is dumb, and it's reason enough to avoid it where it isn't entirely necessary.. one could argue that it never is necessary, but it can still come up in colloquial dialogue when discussing objects.
jw leaders use it to discuss people.. interestingly, jws even did this to jesus christ in their own translation of the bible, referring to him in ephesians 1:7 with "through the blood of that one" where another translation would say something like "through his blood".

So brothers, how can we use this illustration?
let's start by saying that slavery is of course a terrible thing, one of the worst crimes imaginable, and that "slavery" rarely implies good treatment, anything noble or defensible.
nowadays, even god doesn't escape judgement from our enlightened views with passages about slavery in the bible usually glossed over because they are shameful.. but not all slavery was equal.. because of the media, movie industry, racial tensions in the us regularly shown on the news and our taught history, i think most people's knowledge and idea of slavery is that of the north atlantic slave trade where white people took africans to work in cotton fields.
this idea is probably also re-enforced because the largest group of descendents of slaves we see today are african americans (usually in the us or places they subsequently migrated to).. but it's incomplete.. it's only when you look into it more that you discover that there was much more to the slave trade than that, otherwise it would have been just called "the slave trade" and not "the north atlantic slave trade".. some 12.5 million slaves were taken from africa to the us with just under 11 million surviving the trip so it obviously took a terrible toll immediately, even before any maltreatment once they landed in the americas where conditions and treatment were truly awful.
Many countries did and do participate in slavery, as disgusting as that is.
