Hearts aren't really heart shaped!
by rebel8 ina message brought to you by the people who have the unique true knowledge that jesus wasn't born on 12/25:.
hearts aren't even really "heart shaped"--it's just a pagan symbol and everyone wrongly believes they're shaped that way.any questions?

"It is significant that heart-transplant patients, where the nerves connecting the heart and brain are severed, have serious emotional problems after the operation... To what extent the nerve endings of the body and the new heart are able to make some connections in time is not clear, but this cannot be ruled out as one of the several factors causing the serious mental aberrations and disorientation that doctors report are observed in heart-transplant patients. These patients have donor-supplied pumps for their blood, but do they now have all the factors needed to say they have a "heart"? One thing is sure, in losing their own hearts, they have had taken away from them the capacities of "heart" built up in them over the years and which contributed to making them who they were as to personality." (Watchtower, 3/1/1971 p.133-139) -

What comforts you when you no longer believe in a ressurrection ?
by EdenOne inour family just lost someone dear and very close, a faithful jw.
as we went through the entire funeral services and meeting long time brothers and sisters, who in general have been very kind and warm towards us, we realize that the hope of resurrection is a meaningless utopia for us, like a fairytale for little children.
we don't have faith in it anymore, and serves us of no comfort.

What comforts me? Reminding myself that the person lived a good life, was a good person, contributed to society, and lived life to the fullest. (This is probably very difficult if the person spent his life as a jw, because of all the waste, but perhaps there are things that you can reflect on that were aspects of this.) -

God does exist here is my nonbiblical reason:
by Curious Kitten in(before you read i hope no one gets offended by the word retarted...that s how i thought when i was 13)my mom and dad are divorced and my father never helped my mother on raising us, so basically she was a single-mother.
he just abandoned my three brothers and me and my mother had to work two jobs all of the time so we never got to see her.
when we did see her it was after school, but all she did was yell at us, make food, and leave to her next job.

let me make it clear I had a connection with God NOT with religion
I find it hard to believe that you coincidentally came to believe in the xian version of a deity while living in a society that believes in the same thing w/o getting any idea about it from everyone all around you.
You had this idea in your brain, took a drug in order to hallucinate, and hallucinated about something you already believed. That doesn't make it true.

Oh look, a college Scholarship in an envelope....for me! I wonder where that came from?
Why are all these jws taking college prep courses in high school, prepping and taking college entrance exams, and applying for college scholarships?
They need to retire this oft-repeated fairy tale of jws being soooo smart colleges are just begging them to take scholarships without even trying, and they refuse to pioneer.
The boring truth: Someone in a teen's life (could be anyone--guidance counselor, uncle, neighbor, stranger on the Internet) says, "Hey, what are you doing after high school? You should consider college." And then the teen embellishes, running around claiming they were offered a scholarship and pressured to attend college.
Be a cabbage for Jesus
ROFL! I'm not certain I even get it but I think I do.

can't say def as does not know how she will feel in 10 years time. But none of us can say what will happen in 10 years I suppose
Sorry, that sounds indecisive to me. I can definitely promise I will not feel positively toward the dubs in 10 or any number of years.
Maybe you can work with her to help her come to a decision. But it should not be because she wants to marry you--it should be because that's what's actually in her heart.
Not wanting to expose oneself to disconfirming information (COC) is a cult tactic. Ours taught that anyone who says anything bad about them is really controlled by Satan and they can be possessed by demons just by listening. Sounds like she's still afraid.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, stevepill. I wish we had an answer for you that's easier to take.
Honestly though, it would be horrifying if you married, had kids and she exposed the kids to the cult. Horrifying.
So sorry. (( ))

this is so hard, feel like giving up want to help her
That is really admirable, just know that you are now putting yourself in the position of deprogramming her. That could take decades and may never be successful.
You could try exposing her to information about the cult and see if it affects her. Give her time to process and accept what she learns, then re-assess.

Jehovah's Witness pi$$ing contest
by hoser inok more about the jw wedding i attended.
there were these two couples at our dinner table that were having an all out pissing competition as to who was the most spiritual.
they were comparing who was in "the truth" the longest, who pioneered where and for how long.

I like to chime in with things like, "I survived a Nazi concentration camp. And before that, I was a colporteur and knew Pastor Russell personally."

The dubs where I'm from, and those I know in other areas, are heavily into Shaklee, Amway and other pyramid-type vitamin schemes.
It's part of their legacy.
