a few weeks back i showed the guardian article about the borg refusing to cooperate with the charity commission into child abuse to a fellow jw.

their response was quite amazing.

they told me that in the 50s-80s people didn't know about child abuse, didn't know it was wrong and no one really believed children when they claimed they had been abused - even worldly people.. they said that alot of the time children lie about being abused or therapists plant false memories in their heads and that apostates lie about being abused to undermine our faith.. about the borg not cooperating with the commission they said that it was probably because they wanted to protect the identities of jw's who had been abused.

I'm going to analyze each aspect of this line of reasoning:

In the 50s-80s people didn't know about child abuse Although we knew and constantly preached about every other real and imagined danger to children, including dating, masturbation, pep rallies and Pac Man, and our Bible mentions rape lots of times, we had no idea it actually exists--it did happen but we weren't aware of it
didn't know it was wrong Although our litteratrash constantly discusses how rape and sex with someone you're not married to is a terrible sin, we had no idea it was actually wrong.--it did happen but we didn't know it was wrong
no one really believed children when they claimed they had been abused - even worldly people even though our Bible says to let the children openly express themselves--it did happen but we didn't believe the victims, which is worldly people's fault, not ours
They said that alot of the time children lie about being abused or therapists plant false memories in their heads even though we have no way to actually quantify how often this happened to jw children, we will hang our hat on this--it didn't really happen
apostates lie about being abused to undermine our faith--it didn't really happen

So...he is guilty of 1st degree sexual assault on a child in Wisconsin, which means there was either bodily harm or sexual intercourse with this particular child.

This is not some creep who likes mature teenagers or went too far with someone whose age was not known to him. There is no way to minimize this crime. He did this with a relative who was 9 years old, and his symbolic, superficial statements to the reporter do not indicate he is reformed.

Also, odds are, this is not his first sexual assault of a child, or possibly his last either. This just happens to be the only one where he got caught and convicted.

He didn't admit it until there was a hubbub on youtube and an investigative reporter confronted him. He admitted it when he was backed into a corner, and then he blamed it on the military.

I see no ownership being taken.

I did understand that, data-dog. But some people actually believe pedos can be reformed, just like any other criminal, which is why I commented.

I crunched some numbers from his story to see if it adds up, you know, because sociopaths tend to be lying liars who lie a lot.

1950-born

Late 1950s-Army Special Forces deployed to Vietnam (still deployed in combat today—although I am not sure “special forces” means just one branch of the military)

November 1, 1955 – April 30, 1975: Vietnam War. Ivery claims to have served. He was ages 5-25 years old.

August 2, 1990 – February 28, 1991: Desert Storm. Ivery claims to have served. He was ages 40-41 years old. Can anyone confirm someone of this age was deployed in combat in Desert Storm?

1992-He is 42 and rapes his 9-year-old stepdaughter (who would be 33 years old now).

??-in jail

??-becomes a jw

August 2016-He is 66 and is confronted while in the door-to-door work and denies being a pedo, on camera

August 2016-he agrees to an interview with an investigative reporter from KOAA Colorado, and tells the reporter “those urges were brought on by post traumatic stress disorder after serving tours in Vietnam and Desert Storm while serving in the Special Forces”.

What if he did it, went to jail for 10 years, and repented? What if there were absolutely ZERO chance that he would harm another child?

The first one of those quotes is from a lying liar who lies, and the second is from a misinformed but probably sincere person.

I treated pedos a few times. They cannot get better. It is incurable. They have no conscience. Somebody show me a body of valid evidence of cures for sociopaths, and then we'll talk.

Until then, feast your eyes on the rationalization this dude makes. He picks something others are sympathetic about (vets) and blames it on that. NOPE.

I am going to go now and see if I can confirm he's an actual vet. Even if he is, NOPE, that does not cause a person to be sexually attracted to children.

i really felt for you sisters i mean i really did.

when you showed up at the sunday meeting and found out the subject of the talk was going to be -and i can't quite remember the exact wording- but something to the effect of marriage and headship, or honoring and obeying your husband, or something like that how many of you wanted to jump right back in your car and head home.

i mean 45 straight minutes of beating down you poor ladies and telling you that you are not worthy of making one decision, taking the lead in anything, don't question the man be obedient and keep quiet.

I loved it when the bros would struggle to pronounce the word.

That was not the reaction of an innocent man, I'll say that much!

If you were surprised by some stranger on the street, filming you and calling you a convicted rapist, your first reaction would be, "No I'm not. What are you talking about?!" It wouldn't be jumping in the car and leaving.
