Warm Shock On A Cold Day
by Sunspot infor those of you that know my background, you know that my only sibling, a sister (nonjw) disowned me back in the '70s along with my parents when i became a jw.
when i daed myself in '99, i wrote them and apologized for making a terrible mistake, etc and heard nothing.
i just got an email from my sister asking for my address because she wants to write to me, and she signed it "love, your little sis"..

I think my cat is a crack addict! :S
by Elsewhere inok, it isn't really crack... but it might as well be!.
i have to be very careful not to leave any plastic bags anywhere around my apartment or my cat will try to eat it.
i'm always paying close attention to the plastic bags that i bring home from the store... they all go straight in to a covered trash can so that the cat can't get them.. now, for the last two days he has been puking all over the place and i can't find any plastic that he might have been eating off of... but i am finding the plastic in his puke... so i know thats what is going one.

disfellowshipping might bring the cat to it's senses.
Lol Mary -does that mean he'd be shunned by all the JW cats?

Many Thanks for activating this topic again Joyzabel (a jolly good read for us newbies!)
I can soooooo identify with Mebeme's reply too - (did anyone else own an ''inappropriate'' T-Shirt) - and what I find amazing is that the Society comes down hard on OUR ignorance, but THEIRS doesn't really matter.

If he's not getting his plastic bags at home, I imagine he's having to go out for his fix - assuming your cat isn't housebound?

International assemblies - $$$$ aspect
by JustTickledPink inmy mother is 61 yoa and has always lived on the brink of poverty.
a little over a year ago she said that there had been an annoucement of an "international assembly" in australia.
she applied.

This is appalling! ANYONE can attend an Assembly - why on EARTH do a bunch of ''elders'' have to decide if you can attend one abroad? It isn't as though they are PAYING. In fact, it doesn't sound like the WTS are subsidising it in any way.
I'm so sorry JustTickledPink - I bet your Mum is heartbroken, as this must have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for her (judging by her circumstances). She must also be gutted that Jehovah, did in fact, NOT provide.

How did you feel about "apostates" when you were a devout JW?
by booker-t inwhen i was a devout jw i would literally look at "apostates" picketing the assemblies and want to spit at them because i hated them that much and felt that they were of satan.
i remember one time i saw an "apostate" walking from the assembly and a friend of mine an myself were actually talking about confronting him and telling him off.
i just cannot believe how much i hated "apostates" when i was a jw.
-
TheEdge
Hang on - so an ''apostate'' is someone who speaks AGAINST the Watchtower? Or is it anyone who speaks against your chosen religion? Or am I being silly in thinking that it's anyone speaking against God's Word?
OR is ''apostate'' just another 'WATCHTOWER WEAPON' used to dismiss anyone else's belief and reinforce their 'superiority'?

UFO Thread
by TheEdge inbear with me.
i intended to respond to globetrotter's ''atheist thread'' as i remember (way back) reading that the origin of jehovah (as i recall) was that in mythology he was one of two brothers.
anyway, i could not find where i obtained this information so i tried to google it....still no joy.. i did, however, find something of interest (but i've lost the ufo thread to respond to, lol) - a quote from ''reconciliation'' (1928) by jf rutherford :- ''the constellation of pleiades is the place of the eternal throne of god''.

BUT the society ended its belief that God lived in Plaeiades in 1953 (WATCHTOWER Nov 15, 1953).
Sorry if this has been posted before - it's all NEW news to me (both 1928 and 1953 being BEFORE my time).

Anointed - HOW many?
by TheEdge ini am just interested in if the books are ''closed'' - or may a vacancy arise if one drops out?
(this is what i understood from my youth) - if so, and a ''new'' anointed emerges, is it ever known who he/she is replacing?
if not, then there could always be those professing to be anointed on earth this all seems a bit vague to me...does anyone understand my ramblings?
-
TheEdge
I see Poztate - so you mean that the ''Remnant'' are a ''Means to an End'' (no pun intended). ie.: As long as there is always one / some surviving, then the JWs can ''legitimately'' exist.....I did understand that anointed are replaced if ones ''fall away'' (although I have never understood WHY someone who has been hand-picked by God WOULD choose to leave)and the 8500 number seems higher than I remember it 10 years ago...
Thanks for your input - and the laugh
