One great thing about Atheists is you don't ever have to worry about them hearing messages from God that send them on a killing spree.

You don't ever have to worry about your Atheist friend coming up to you one day and saying "Dude, I woke up this morning and parted my milk. I think I'm frickin Moses!" Or worse... "Dude, I died in my sleep last night but when I woke up I was alive! I think I'm Jesus!" Then *STAB* as he cuts off your head.

Here's what's wrong with it....

Regardless of the reason they are doing it, they are altering the work of an artist without the artist's permission.

Film, believe it or not is art. In fact it is the most influential form of art in our culture.

Imagine if someone decided to paint a mustache on the Mona Lisa!

Now you might be asking, "But CinemaBlend, what's the difference between this and when they edit movies to show them on TV?"

Simple... those edits made to movies to show them on TV are made WITH THE ARTISTS PERMISSION. They have control over their work and can maintain the integrity of their work. Clearplay does this WITHOUT THE ARTISTS PERMISSION and that is why Hollywood, anyone who respects art, anyone who cares about free expression, why YOU should be pissed off as hell about ClearPlay too.

There are good people there are bad people. There are honest people there are dishonest people.

People are pretty much the same everywhere, even in the JWs.

..sometimes I wonder whether their is room in an equal society for anyone religious! I find it strange that condescension, rudeness and sarcasm colour many of the comments. It makes it kinda hard to say anything if people's lame arse answer to anything proposed requires reference to a part of someones religion that they don't believe in.

Yes, it's hard to defend something as stupid as religion I agree.

I believe in God - it is probably impossible to prove that sort of thing here on a message board any more than its possible to prove love, hope or consciousness - these things only come by the living and experiencing. One day maybe those who are so quick to deride God and His adherants will have a one on one personal experience with Deity - at least you'll know what the other side of the arguement feels like - the one where you've had something incredibly precious and when you share it other people just take the mick.

Love is a feeling. You don't need to prove it, you feel it yourself. Consciousness I can prove... because if you're reading this you're concious. Hope is an abstract concept, not a super power than can part the red sea.

So you want people to believe in God based on what... the fact that you think they should? Flimsy.

Natures art has a sense to it, so does the consciousness required to appreciate it. These things do not prove the existence of a personal god. What they can do is make us aware of a greater consciousness which we can choose to be a part of instead of remaining isolated.

Greater consciousness is a fancy term that doesn't mean much, and again, you admit this is no proof of God, so I'm still waiting for it.

Perhaps to many people god is an expression for a concept they cannot explain. In the process of trying to make this concept more understandable they attribute human qualities and gender to the concept of a god. It as this point that the whole concept becomes flawed.

Jesus was seen by many witnesses and he claimed to know God / be God.
Many prophets have seen God and recorded that experience in scripture.

Really? Prove it. First you'd have to prove the Bible is literal fact and that's a whole nother thing.

Then you have to add to the mix the millions of people who have had spiritual experiences - now this was my point about what evidences would be allowed - materialists would be inclined to reject anything of a spiritual nature as unprovable. There are however several instances of spiritual experience that have been shared (Toronto Blessing).
I've never seen credible evidence of "spiritual experiences" you yourself admit they are unprovable, so that's no kind of evidence.

Anything else?

do you think that someone's socio economic status determines how they get treated (behaved to) by the jws?

can someone high up the ladder get away with more things especially if he made big donations to the society and do they look down upon those lower down?

Sure, it's no different than anywhere else.

Rich people hang with rich people.

It's not even necessarily because they are intentionally shunning poor folk always... but simply because they have the money to go do things together that poorer people cannot.

For all their talk of being "different" from the world because of some special brotherhood, Witnesses are just like anyone else.

When my wife and I first got married, we ended up getting an apartment that happened to be on the edge of the territory of a Kingdom Hall in the wealthiest part of town. Our apartment wasn't expensive, it was tiny, and we were really really poor, but we ended up going to the wealthiest hall in town.

We went there 9 months, and never made a single friend. Not even an aquaitance. Not even a second dinner invite.

We'd pull up in our 1989 Ford Crown Victoria in a parking lot full of brand new 2000 Porche's, BMW's, expensive SUVs, and we just didn't fit in. They'd all go do these rediculously lavish things on the weekend... we'd be in servece and they'd say "oh hey we're all kicking in and taking out a yacht this weekend, it's only 500 bucks a person, do you want to go?" and of course we had to say "um now we can't afford that" and so they'd drop us off at the Kingdom Hall after service and go to expensive lunches or out on their yachts or whatever.

After a couple of times of that they didn't even ask us or really waste time talking to us anymore. We couldn't afford to run in their social circle.
