we never had a family study once the entire time i was a witness.

I think we may have once or twice, but it was never regular, I mean my parents never had us study the watchtower before the watchtower (I had friends who's parents made them do it every saturday night). My parents never made us read the bible on our own or with us, except for after a book study or after a meeting that they didn't believe what was being taught, then my mom would get the bible out and tell us the real truth. I was always surprised that my mom and dad stayed in for 45 years considering how many times they would say no, that's not true, here's the truth. My dad was an elder for 17 years during all that too. He was never home and was always off dealing with something in the KH.

Something the speaker said yesterday that got my wife thinking. Advice?

i was working yesterday so i wasnt at the meeting but the speaker in his talk made comments about 1914 on several occasions and towards the end of his talk he mentioned that if any new ones in attendence didnt understand the signficance of 1914 or how we know that christ started ruling in 1914 that they were invited to ask any jw in attendence to explain these things to them and they would be happy to.

this really got my wife to thinking because as a 28 year old jw who was raised as a witness and who has always been very active in the ministry she couldnt explain 1914 or any beliefs that we have as witnesses in regards to 1914 other than things havent been the same in the world since this pivotal date.

something as simple as this comment from this speaker can be the first step into seeing the errors in the wt belief system.

Jesus the son of God

i believe that he was crucified as a perfect sacrifice for our sins and on the third day rose from the dead and later ascended in heaven.

it is through jesus christ that we enter the kingdom of heaven and there is no lack of space in heaven.

As to this being a site for recovering JW's. I am sot sure what you mean by that. The site appears to be very JW to me.

Okay, I haven't read through all of your posts yet to see if you understand what this board is all about, but just in case you haven't gotten it yet, here we go.

This board is not a JW board. It is a board of EX JW's who have been hurt by the JW organization in one way or another. Most of the posters here are former JW who pretty much have a sour taste in our mouths for the WTS org. We do NOT defend them and some of us even work really hard to try to get as many out of the org as we can.

Hope this helped a bit to clear up why your posts were received the way they were by so many here. Now, you can stop trying to preach to the choir on the subject of how bad the JW religion is. WE KNOW, that's why we left! ;)

Super Soakers, Rock Em Sock Em Robots, And Other Innocent Childrens Toys

today, i was looking for a super soaker on ebay.

my ex girlfriend stole the other one, and i was looking to replace it.

it made me think about the time i was a kid.

My mom wouldn't let me have a Ken doll because she didn't want me to play "dating" with Barbie. Maybe she was afraid there would be hot plastic sex in the toy box at night.

yeah I wasn't allowed to have barbie at all, someone did give me a Ken doll that talked once, but my mom ripped the cord out because it talked about dating or something, I don't remember.

We were not allowed to have Unicorns or troll dolls either. Cupi dolls were not a problem, my brother had one he played with in the bathtub.

We couldn't have guns or any squirt gun that looked like a gun. Back then, they did make squirters that actually looked like brass knuckles, now that I think about them, and we were allowed to have those.

The funny thing is, my parents never forbade us from watching R rated movies if they were violent, but if they had any kind of nudity, that was a no no. Unfortunately, we have done that with our son as well. I don't mean to say that I'd allow him to watch nudity, but I mean he isn't kept from watching movies like the Matrix or something like that. We do not let him watch things that are very gory though, but he is allowed to play any game he wants that is because it doesn't look the same as the movies do. He knows it's not real violence and I know he's not out inacting the stuff (okay, I don't want any crap from anyone over this so leave me alone LOL kiddin').

I think the reason we have not been so strict with him is because my parents were very strict and I didn't want to be that way with our kids. Also, movies that were R when I was a kid are probably pg 13 now, so not quite the same.

I always thought that my mom's thing about unicorns was stupid considering we were allowed to watch any Disney movie we wanted. My mom actually told me recently that we shouldn't let our son watch Harry Potter because of the sorcery stuff and I said, why not, you let us was The Sword in the Stone and pretty much any Disney movie ever made (except Bednobs and Broomsticks) and her answer was, well that's different, HP and B&B are real life, not cartoon and kids will want to reinact a real life movie more so than they will a cartoon (she doesn't know her grandson very well then cuz he's a cartoonaholic lol). I always thought that was so stupid! He's seen all of the HP movies and I finally saw B&B as an adult and thought, what's the big deal? Our son doesn't really like the HP movies because he can't sit still long enough and gets bored.

A friend of our family was having problems with spiritism and fantasy (she was really heavy into fantasy books because her reality sucked!) Anyway, she was having nightmares and such and my mom told her it was because of the unicorn pendent she wore around her neck and told her that she should get rid of it. I don't know if she ever really did, but she stopped wearing it to the KH and around my mom at least.

What does it MEAN, to be Baptised....

i wasn't aware of the in's-and-out's of the subject, just that i felt that my own baptism as a jw was somehow invalid, and wanted to do it properly.

Baptism for me, is an act of obedience, it is symbolic of the gospel and has nothing (literally) to do with washing away of sins. If it did, why was Jesus baptized?

You are absolutely correct. Baptism is mearly a symbol to show that you have been saved. It isn't what saves you. If you were to pass away before you were able to be baptized after you had been saved, you would still go to heaven, even though a baptism has not been performed first.

Do Jehovah Witnesses Believe in the Trinity?

i am a seventh-day adventist and i am doing a bible project for my 11th grade religion class and i chose the topic of the trinity and decided to compare that of the seventh-day adventist teachings with that of your teachings.. what do you believe about the trinity?.

also, a little off the topic, but why don't you believe in having an american flag in your sanctuary?.

I don't know if you realize it or not, but the Jehovah's Witnesses are actually an offshoot of the 7th day adventists. I just got done watching The Jehovha's Witnesses, a Non Prophet org. and it says that Russells, wrote a book with the founder of the adventists. Then he went and formed his own religion after leaving the adventists. I was shocked to hear this. Please do not slam me, I am simply quoting the video.

LOL this happened to hubby and I before we were married. We had to go parking because I was staying with a family who was really religious (baptists from boyfriend's/now hubby's church), and he was staying with his mother, so we had no choice. Windows were all fogged up, it was quite embarrassing.
