the jws used to always have discussions about whether to have children "in this system of things".. i used to always think it was pathetic to avoid having kids because of the so-called impending armageddon.. however.
despite the fact that i've always wanted kids, right now i'm not so sure.
just look at the things happening in the world.
Were thinking of trying for some now. To tell you the truth, I'm absolutly pertrified about the idea of being responcible for a bunch of little steveNYC's.
steve

Jeez Crumpet, STOP FALLING OVER!!!!
Thinking of you, take care.

and there were giants in those days genesis 6:4
there is a simple principle of physics that has changed the way i look at the universe.
it has also prevented me from being taken in by a huge array of common legends and misconceptions.
If you want to believe the bible stories as metaphore, fine. Og was a 13 foot giant decendent of the Nephalim. If you take it as all true, then you shouldn't balk at a 13 foot man. After all, moses had just parted the red sea. And one of his desendents was about to go into battle where the earth stopped rotating, to give him more sunlilght to complete the job.

i was raised in as a jw, and got batpz at 16. i started pioneer at 18 and got married when i was 21. i was made an ms at 22, and was soon giving many parts.. my brother who was also a pioneer, eventually stopped, even stopped going to meetings.
he placed a doubt in my mind about 607. he simply told me to look at the kingdom come book appendix.. i looked at the material and was ablt to rationalize it in my mind as secular vs. biblical chronology (which is a gross oversimplification).
as well, i knew some things being done within the orginization didn't sit very well with me.
There is a great book called 'Stop walking on eggshells':http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/157224108X/102-3847038-9568136?v=glance
It talks about how to cope / or not , with boardersline's. If anyone here doesn't know about BPD then I would recomend reading the reviews for the book to get an idea. VERY SCARY. Making the decision that you are unable to deal with living with this person is in no way derogatory to you. From your frankness I don't get the impression that you feel you failed by leaving, however, just in case, allow me to say, you didn't.
Welcome to the board.
steve
have you done it?
would you still?
is it ever acceptable?
Hib, don't stop with that scripture. ALL is inspired, so I hope you also follow these practices, AS Written.
Lev, 20:9 In case there should be any man who calls down evil upon his father and his mother, he should be put to death without fail. It is his father and his mother upon whom he has called down evil. His own blood is upon him
Deut 21: 18 "In case a man happens to have a son who is stubborn and rebellious, he not listening to the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and they have corrected him but he will not listen to them, 19 his father and his mother must also take hold of him and bring him out to the older men of his city and to the gate of his place, 20 and they must say to the older men of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he is not listening to our voice, being a glutton and a drunkard.’ 21 Then all the men of his city must pelt him with stones, and he must die.
Matt 15:4 For example, God said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Let him that reviles father or mother end up in death.’ <-- this ones from Jesus.

the just pretend religion
i was rooting around on the internet today, and i came across something that gave me a unique insight into how fundamentalists have a good time.
one suggestion was to have the kids re-enact the ten plagues of egypt.
I love this quote, and I think it fits nicely with your story book chapter. This quote is from AlanF's page. I'm sure he won't mind.

why are we here?
what is the purpose of life?
an atheist has many questions but no answers.. .
hubiscus,
A purely hypothetical question for you.
How would you personally feel if YOU discovered that God / Jesus did not exist?
steve
uncharacteristically, i am not going to give my definition of evil at the outset.. i want your opinions and discussion of exactly what you think it is.. after a number of posts i'll weigh in.. 1.is evil an actual "thing" or a state of mind?.
2.is evil a part of the universe or only a consequence of something having to do with mankind?.
3.what causes evil?
My definition of Evil..

The positions were varied, as long as it was 'me' who was being shafted!
