Yep, I'm gonna be 38 in December.
This year I've decided to have a party.
So, come and join me on December 9th in Brooklyn.
If you know how to get to Dub Central then there's no excuse.

Are Blood Tranfusions as dangerous and risky and the WTS claim?
by Fisherman inin and old post by marvin, he provides a link to a wts response to blood treatment.
the wts society spokeman writes that blood transfusions may cause immunological disorders.
since modern medicine gave out thousands of infected blood transfusions in the past causing death and ravaging disease such as aids and incurable and horrible hepatitis to mention some, there is reason for concern.. how safe and effective is blood treatment today?

One other thing I feel I need to add. Even if recovery times are shortened and infection chances are lowered, this has nothing to do with whether the Watchtower stance on blood transfusion can be validated. Participants of risky surgical practices who are forced into their decision by a misreading, and now a deliberate deception, of an ancient text are not entirely 'willing' participants.

There is a site called noblood.org which has nurses (and a lot of JWs) partaking in discution regarding non-blood surgery. It states the usual Watchtower stuff. Some may find it offensive, but it's always good to understand a different point of view.
My medical education stops at Advil for a hangover, so I cannot vouch for its accuracy.

Gays Leave JWD!
by hambeak ini got a phone call from a person that i gave my phone # to.
and this person said that gays are not welcome here and this is not what this board was really about.
i told them that this is only one part of the crap that the wts did to people and that we are people too.

After all the crap people have been through, I find it amazing that bigotry would still persist.

"This Generation"
by Jeffro ini know the witnesses changed their 'generation' definition in 1995 to get away from being tied down to the literal generation of people who saw 1914.. but applying their definition of the word to matthew 24:34 makes the verse meaningless, regardless of whether the original text grammatically allows for their interpretation.
there is no point in saying "this generation will by no means pass away" if 'generation' merely refers to an attitude of people which may remain the same for any ongoing period of time.. there is simply no point in saying it unless it was intended to refer specifically to a literal generation of people who were alive at the time.
of course, there is no validity to their 1914 doctrine anyway, but nevertheless, they are inextricably stuck with it..

I find it interesting that the reply to 'questions from readers', although quotes Matthew 24 in part, omits the three warnings from Jesus that to identify a false prophet: just look for anyone saying they know who and where he is.

The Science of Belief
by LittleToe intime and again the refrain is heard that belief and science are mutually exclusive, that belief somehow corrupts good science, that belief is not empirical.
i'd like to throw another slant on that, if i may.. belief is an inherent part of the human psyche.
the desire to know more about our environment and how it all works is also an inherent part of our psyche.

LT: Prayer is at least self-affirmation and/or a placebo; at best, communication with the Divine. To that end surely even the materialist can see some benefit in it, even if it isn't their tool of choice?
Yes, the materialist will see some benefit in prayer, but, mostly in its observable effect in others, not nessasaraly a benefit directly for the materialist. Unless of course we start considering other forms of self-affirmation, be it daily journals, meditation or self promises and the like to be included in the 'prayer' category.

The best way to think of it is a holiday for the American families get together. More like a Christmas Day holiday, eating too much food, and listening to the Queens speech.
This is why I am starting this thread. Many of us have lost our families to the indoctrination of the watchtower. To those I’ll be thinking of you, and raising my glass to the courage you’ve performed by choosing reality over deception. Knowing the cost.
