I need help/info on other religions vs the WTS

over the past week since i've announced that i was stepping down i have had a few conversations with my family, and against my better judgement i mentioned that i was having doubts.

invariably almost every discussion about the jw religion eventually boils down to the argument that only witnesses are doing this or that.

unfortunately this is a weak part of my debate, i have only been associated with the jw religion so i have very little information on what other religions beleive and practice.

I think if you research hard enough, you will find that there is absolutely NOTHING exclusive about the WT Organization that some other religions don't already practice. You will find their doctrines in other churches no matter where you look. Each one of their doctrines that they think is so important, you will find another church that is teaching one of those doctrines. (The Jesus/Michael doctrine from the Adventists, and also the "soul sleep") As for their teaching that we are in the "last days" as well, you will find others that say the same thing. I call these churches "apocolyptic"; you will find some who will swear up and down that we are in the time of the end.

Just because they have this combination of peculiar doctrines that they teach doesn't in anyway make them any more "truthful" than those churches who teach another combination of doctrines.

Basically it does no good to argue with them or to show them scriptures because their minds are already made up. Their main problem is that they believe in their organization as their "savior" and not God as their savior. (So I believe this is basically "idolatry") They have no personal relationship with Christ. Everything is "organizational"; they even believe that the Bible is an "organizational" book and cannot be understood or interpreted by ANYONE except their leaders.

My advice to you is just try to keep the channels of communication open.

i know this is a typical "woman" question.

what should i bring to wear.

considering it is at a camp, i'm thinking very casual.

Yes, just casual. I'm wearing t-shirts, blue jeans and comfortable shoes. Is this what people wear when they go camping? LOL! My idea of camping is having to stay at the Motel 6 when you'd rather be at the Holiday Inn or the Marriott! Actually, I'd rather be in a 5 star hotel period. That's my idea of a vacation. I'm very much looking forward to meeting you as well. Take care...until then!

(Raising my hand) Me, me, me, I'm going and I'll be there! I'm just wearing casual clothes myself. I've been to the conference in PA and I wear casual clothes there as well. Dan Hall says wear casual. I'm on the phone with him now.

My Experience Today with My Brother

well, my brother and his wife came over to my parent's house to visit today while i was home.. to make a long story short, while my brother and his wife were chatting with my mother in the living room, my 1 and a half year old nephew reilly walked into the kitchen where i was making a caesar salad.. he walked over towards me and was smiling, how can any normal adult resist the innocent smile of a child who is your relative?

i picked him up and gave him a huge hug, and told him i loved him.. as i was holding my nephew in my arms, my brother walked into the room.

he was smack dab in the middle of an in-depth conversation about jehovah with my mother and his wife, and i admit i was rolling my eyes listening to him spew about the "truth" and "the only means for salvation in the last days of this wicked system" even though when i confronted him with info on the un, blood, russell gravesite, rape changes, exclusivity, etc, he had no response for me because he was dumbfounded and lost for words.

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience with your brother. I don't know which is worse, having those words said to you or just being completely ignored. I've been a victim of being completely ignored by my brother, who is an elder and HLC member. He will just sit there and look right through me as if I were not there. He won't say a word to me at all.

I'm glad that even thought you may have been tempted to say something back to him, that you didn't. You kept your cool and were able to walk out with your head held high. Hug your nephew and show him love every time you see him and don't be afraid to do so. One of these days your nephew will catch on. He may be just a little tyke now, but one day he will grow up and see what's right and what's wrong.

I don't have any German ancestors but my children do from their father's side of the family. My 16 year old son has been learning the German language for 2 years now. In fact, I am sending him to Berlin this summer for a 2 week program of intensive German language study. There will also be included some tours of Berlin. He should have a really fun time.

My son is Tevya!

Well I sure don't mind any of us here bragging about the accomplishments of our children! Congratulations to your son for a job well done. I love Fidler on the Roof, it's probably my favorite musical of all time.
