Has Anyone Ever Met Any Celebrities?
by imallgrowedup inthis is a spin-off of another thread where my *mild and chaste* friend, mouthy, admitted to wanting to meet her dream man, tom jones, and that she would even go so far as to throw her bloomers at him, if that is what it would take to get his attention!
well, the mental picture this painted was far too much for me to bear, so i encouraged her to save her red polka-dotted "unmentionables", not only because she might need them in the future, but because i didn't think she'd have to go that far to get his attention.
and i said that - because of a personal experience with him.

I met William Schallet (he was the Dad on the Gidget TV series and also on the Nancy Drew Mysteries) and I met Bernard Fox (he played "Dr. Bombay on Bewitched and the English Colonel Crittenton on Hogan's Heroes) at the Hungry Tiger Restaurant in Los Angeles about 22 years ago.
I also recently met Sean Hannity of Fox News Hannity & Colmes. Nice guy!

I saw that you wrote to me at my primary email address. I responded to you, so if you would like to let me know how I can help you, I would be glad to try. I am also in Los Angeles and I run a support group for Ex JW's that meets monthly. Information is on my website at:

Thanks Randy! And to Euphemism, that's really funny. Makes the WT and "Jehovah" sound like the song, "I'm My Own Grandpa".

Curiousity about current JW Views on going into churches
by Brymichmom ini've been following a thread on another forum where jw's are insisting that it is ok for them to go inside churches for weddings, funerals, etc.
they say it's quite ok to go inside any church just as long as they don't participate in the service by singing, praying, kneeling...etc...some of them say that they have seen "guest speakers" in churches who came as watchtower representatives.
when did this ever change?

Thanks Shadow! I can see how the WT puts it in just such a way that the average JW should not go into a church for a wedding. It makes it sound like your conscience SHOULD tell you not to go into that nasty church! It also sounds like the only one who might be able to get away with it would be the "sister married to an unbelieving husband". This article literally tells the JW how they SHOULD feel about going inside a church.

Bingo! That's exactly what I was looking for, Bluesbrother. Thank you so much. They sort of say that you can, but they make it sound so darn DANGEROUS because you might commit a forbidden type of act. (Give me a break!)
I knew that there was a reason for my family's behavior, I knew that it had said somewhere that they should not enter a church for these types of things. My family became JW's around 1970, but I have never heard while I was growing up that it was a matter of "conscience". My mother always told me that I would be DF'd if I went into a church when I was a teen first coming into the WT.
My family will go into the funeral home, but they absolutely under no circumstances will enter a church for the funeral.

Hey stillajwexelder, do you have a quote from the WT that says it's a "conscience matter"? I'd like to write to my brother and my parents and ask them if they knows about this, or if they just do this because of their "conscience". Maybe my family would start going to funerals and weddings if they knew this was just a "conscience matter". It was so sad when my grandmother died because there my father was, outside on the church steps, he couldn't even go in to give his sister a hug and comfort her.

Bernie, it seems that elders and their families lead a much different life from the JW's who don't have and elder for a dad. My dad was never an elder; he became a JW after I actually left the WT and years after my mother had become baptized. My brother had been an elder, but he behaved also like he couldn't enter the church for my grandmother's funeral.

That's really interesting Sara. In my family, every time a family member who was a non JW got married, none of the JW's would go into the church, period. I asked my mother to go in one time, and she just said, "You KNOW we CAN'T go in there! It's Babylon!" So they just stand outside on the church steps waiting for the wedding to be over with.

facts about the JW religion
by Dawn ini'm putting together a brochure for release in my area - to local churches and bookstores.
on the first panel i want to explain to the reader why the jw religion is not a "harmless" little church.
so i decided to list in bullet format a few facts that the average person may not be aware of.. for example, bullet 1 will be information on the number of children who have died because of refusing blood (any ideas where i can find exact numbers??).
