Encouraged to read old light?
by Mysterious ini remember my mother espousing the value in all the old publications and wanting me to read them when i was young.
as well as directives to place remaining copies of "older" books (about 10 years out of date) in the door to door work.
are they naive to the fact that the material is so outdated or do they just see the past in rose colored still new light glasses?.

Amazing isn't it. Do as you are told. And yet, if in 1995 you refused to accept the "NEW LIGHT" about 1914 and this generation, you would be disfellowshipped as an apostate. Even though you were told to believe it for over 70 years.

As to disfellowshiped family members (not minor sons or daughters) living outside the home, each family must decide to what extent they will have association with such ones. This is not something that the congregational elders can decide for them. What the elders are concerned with is that "leaven" is not reintroduced into the congregation through spiritual fellowshiping with those who had to be removed as such "leaven." Thus, if a disfellowshiped parent goes to visit a son or daughter or to see grandchildren and is allowed to enter the Christian home, this is not the concern of the elders. The "Bible Students" put out a CD called Berean Bible Studies. In it are all of Russells writings including all Watchtowers from the first one to 1916. Talk about old light. It's a great read.

DOUBLE STANDARDS FOR DUB DOCTRINES
by Mary ini just thought of something last night and figured i better post it before i forget it (getting alzheimers here) about the double standards that the wts has when it comes to interpreting scriptures.
we all know the story about the last supper and how jesus instituted a new covenant with his disciples.
they all drank the wine and ate the bread as per jesus' instructions and this custom has been passed down for 2,000 years amongst all christians except those unfortunate jehovah's witnesses who weren't baptized before 1935.
