  lately i've been putting a lot of thought in to what is rational and what must be relegated to faith alone.

  ever since the scientific method was discovered, humanity has attempted to put it to work in so many areas.

  Finally someone has put their finger on what my problem is!!! I never considered that this might be my problem. Why are you giving somone with such amazing powers of observation a hard time.

  Actually I am a "Mere Christian". Everything beyond that is secondary details, which can be risky as well. All the dumb ideas that have come from the minds of Christians don't come from the basics, rather from trying to hash out all those secondary details.

  Nevertheless, I am ever seeking and aspiring to be fearless in my search for truth.

  JGnat,

  I just got my yellow. If you read my truth study, it was cooked up during the gage r&r segment. There is so much time that I will just never get back.

  I think my ploy worked. It appears we can speak freely now that... well someone doesn't appear to need to be so irritating anymore.

  It is an idea I wondered about in theory. The idea is that when someone is being obnoxious, you simply try to determine what their true motivation is. Then you appear very overtly, but just a notch below sarcastic, to give them that which they are seeking. In that way, they are satisfied and move on to new subjects (not people to them) they can use to satisfy their hidden desires.

  I thought it might work.

  one of my favorite things to do with any wt publication, is to look for the "sin" pictures.

  they are always pretty funny, cartoony, and classic propaganda.

  the knowledge book had some but it seemed to be toned down from the standard study book that preceded it (i can't remember the name).

  I also love the obviously ill woman who has made the poor unfortunate decision to save her life by getting a blood transfusion. Yes she would have felt much better if she had died.

  I have read many of the little exchanges between you and Jgnat. I can't tell you how impressed I am by your solid reasoning and obvious dedication to your faith. I often considered myself to be in agreement with JGnat on these matters. But after reading what you had to say, I can truly say I am a changed man.

  I spoke to Jgnat privately about these things, and she realizes now that she simply cannot match wits with you. So now you can move on to other things. Good job. Mission accomlished. You really set us straight.

  One of my favorite things to do with any wt publication, is to look for the "sin" pictures. They are always pretty funny, cartoony, and classic propaganda. The Knowledge book had some but it seemed to be toned down from the standard study book that preceded it (I can't remember the name). Now that book had some awesome "sin" pictures. My favorite was the very dated picture of the guy and the lady disco dancing with a sinful expression on their faces. The shifty eyed doctor performing the blood transfusion was another good one.

  It seems though that this new publication is taking the propaganda back towards being over the top. The "sin" pictures in the new pub are just hysterical. My favorite is the crazy eyed guy with the gun.

  My other favorite pictures are the door to door pics. The householders are always smiling and interested. I joked with my dub wife that they should show them realistically with a confused or incredulous look on their faces, or slamming doors. We had a good laugh on that one.

  If anyone has scans of the new sin pictures, be sure to post them for the enjoyment of those who are luckily out of the loop on such matters.

  WTS: Positive information is believed, Negative is not believed

  i find it very interesting the way the wts has conditioned jws to automatically accept as true any information about jws that is considered "positive" regarding the religion while also automatically concluding as false any information about jws that is considered "negative".. i wonder if we could use this to our advantage... tell jws all sorts of outlandish, but positive, things about the organization and what jws are doing.

  eventually they will get to a point where they realize that they cannot even trust the "good" things they hear.

  hey, did you hear about how the wts recently purchased a c-130 so they can do literature airdrops in remote locations in third-world countries?

  I wonder if we could use this to our advantage... tell JWs all sorts of outlandish, but positive, things about the organization and what JWs are doing. Eventually they will get to a point where they realize that they cannot even trust the "good" things they hear.

  Funny.

  Actually I think everyone does this. We all have a paradigm, and we all process info through that paradigm. When info comes in that contradicts our paradigm, we can alter it or we can ignore the info. Most folks ignore the info. Any info that appears to validate our paradigm is easily believed and accepted.

  Everyone does this. The dubs seem more guilty of it just because their paradigm is so doggone rigid.

  Question of the day: Does believing truth required a closed paradigm (one where any fact that contradicts the paradigm must be avoided?)
