a dub i know found some info about the christadelphians.
it was quite remarekable to her that there was a group with so many ideas, so similar to the dubs.
such a reailzation is a bit of a challenge to a dub, since they spend so much time fancying how unique they are.

I think I am going to start a new thread called,
"Stump Blondie"
We can all ask questions and see if there is anything that Blondie can't provide relevant info for.
any who have checked out snopes.com, know that it is a very effective baloney detection device.
it is amazing how many phoney stories end up coming some so many credible sources.
for the dubs, the urban legend serves an important function of protecting and bolstering their faith.

For the dubs, the urban legend serves an important function of protecting and bolstering their faith. Wouldn't it be handy to have a jw snopes type web site that tells you the origin, veracity, and function of ALL the known jw urban legends.
This is one of those, "here is a good idea that I am to lazy and/or to busy to do, so I hope someone else does it" type threads.

- What are the names of the THREE PERSONS in God ?

- Jehovah, Jesus-Christ, and Eugene Richer dit Laflèche.

Sounds like when these guys met and joined the dubs, it was a classic "My cult leader can beat up your cult leader" type situation.

That might be the source of the urban legend.
I think a key element has to be "there was a church with similar teachings, but they then realize that the jw are really the right one"
The purpose is to make it seem like if some group just dummies into the jw teachings on their own (Ethiopian eunichs without somebody to explain it all to them), as soon as they are exposed to the jw they quickly realize jw is the "right one"
JW urban legends kill me.
next time I hear one, I am thinking of saying, "did you know this person?" When they say "no it is a friend who told me this story"?
I will say, "a friend of a friend, hey that sounds like an urban legen!"

A dub I know found some info about the Christadelphians. It was quite remarekable to her that there was a group with so many ideas, so similar to the dubs. Such a reailzation is a bit of a challenge to a dub, since they spend so much time fancying how unique they are. In fact they point to their doctrinal uniqueness as proof of them being the "one true" religion.
So naturally there had to be some dub type antectdote that made such an occurrence explainable within the context of the assumption that the jw are TFDS.
So some dub told this person that "there was a group in Canada, called the Princes, that believed all the same things as the dubs. Then some of the elders started studying with the jw, and they realized the jw was the "one true" religion. They announced it at their church and most of the members joined the jw. They turned over all of their assets to the watchtower. Isn't that a touching story!"
So I have noticed that these little stories always pop up to explain away these sorts of troubling realizations. As anyone here knows, there is an extensive library of jw urban legends. I smell one in this case. I did a search on the internet and got no hits for a group called "the Princes".
Anyone heard this story?
it's interesting how some people "feel" and "know" whatever their gut tells them.
some are making the outcry that michael jackson is clearly a child molester.
whether he was acquitted or not makes no difference to them.
which is why men cannot form a rational opinion about a woman he wants to sleep with.
Where were you when I was 17?! That one would have come in handy!
Of course I probably wouldn't have heard what you said, because I would have been thinking about sleeping with you.
i've just recently declared my agnosticism to myself and to one other person in my life.
i don't necessarily consider myself an atheist because i believe there very well may be some higher power or non carbon based entities in existence with 'godlike' abilities.
my question is, do you still find yourself secretly believing in god?
I did exercise due dilligence in seeking him out for nearly 20 years
I never meant to imply that you didn't. I just said I think it is necessary that one exercise such diligence if they ever expect to stand before the Creator.
Have you ever considered that you were misled and abused for a long time by some people seeking their own glory. So much so that maybe you are turned off on the idea, not because of God, but because of those who claimed to represent him? I am sure you have. I just had to mention it.

Just because you have a particular thought pattern, what makes that something about you?
Because "a man is defined by his actions". His actions are defined by his thoughts and morality. His morality is defined by.....?

agnosticism is an honest position. some would say that it is basically just a PC version of weak atheism, but whatever, it's a neutral position
I really am after you today for some reason Tetra.
Actually I disagree that agnostic is a neutral position. You can say you believe this or that, but the truth is in how you live your life. I think you either live according to the assumption that there is a God whom you will someday have to explain yourself to, or you don't.
I used to think I was agnostic, but in reality I was an athiest. And if you look at all the things I did, you would see I was a damn good one!
