Wish I could find the clip where Avi says "How about English, Tony? I thought the country spawned the f-ing language and so far no one here seems to speak it."

How Many JWs Stay In & Are Not "True Believers"?
by minimus inhow many are simply there because they don't care about religion and "where would they go"?.
how many have sold their souls just to remain in "friendships" and "family"?.
i think there are tons of jehovah's witnesses in name only.. .

Methinks 60/40 "true believers" (lock, stock and barrell everything that is taught is 100% true.)
The other 40% is a mix of downright nonbelievers who stay in it for the friendship, family and social structure. Then there are those on all levels of the org. who question certain doctrines, positions or interpretations of scripture. Then there is that large cadre of "believers" in the doctrine and that it is the truth, but with the secret lifestyle that belies what they should be doing if they were 100%. Stuff like getting drunk, rated R movies, "questionable" rock concerts, extending to more "serious" wrongs.

Blondie said:
The WTS is always encouraging jws to move to a foreign-language congregation to help out. Why is learning a new language in this case not discouraged? Does this mean no one should apply to Gilead?
Exactly what I thought when I read this. There are classes for Russian, Chinese, whatever foreign language is prominent in any given area. Using the WT logic, wouldn't learning these be considered time consuming and difficult (especially Chinese!) Why is doing this encouraged yet not learning Biblical languages?

Is it alowed to watch / read Harry Potter movies (books) in your area?....
by Albert Einstein inis it alowed to watch / read harry potter movies (books) in your area?.
in my country (eastern europe) it is viewed mostly as "unexemplary" , although many kids have harry potter dvds at home, but nobody talks about it .... at circuit assembly one speaker warned, that "some might be tempted to watch a movie, with a little witch .... (of course it is very dangerous and we must stay away!!!)".
when i started my departure several months ago, i made sure my son has all movies on dvd and i openly talk about it with dubs who visit our home - how nice the movies are - ... nobody so far dared to react.... albert .

Elders and texting
by Iwonder17 innot sure if this was caught on in your cong or not, but now our service overseers text everyone in their group for their field service time.. now i understand that texting and email are good tools, i use them everyday.
but how impersonal can you be.
espicially when it comes to "life saving work".

That is, until they start mentioning the "danger" of texting at the next Big Boasting Session. Already I am hearing talks about this issue (look for them at your a$$embly hell). At which point, they will lump texting along with the other social networks as rendering one "bad associations".
There was a part at the D.C. about texting a few years ago. It seemed rather silly to me to be gathered for "spiritual edification" and then hear 15+ minutes on texting and not showing proper appreciation for the spiritual provisions at hand. But that was the last I ever heard of it. Maybe the GB realized that is one thing that they cannot, and never will be, able to control.
