i felt so alone even though i was regular at meetings.

my mom always warned her new studies that satan would take notice right away that they were studying the truth.

she would give examples, so they would recognize the devil's activities for what they were.

sure enough, the phone rang during a study just as mom asked the lady to read a scripture.

ok, if i was satan, i would do exactly the opposite of what jehovah said i would do. instead of coming out of the pit after the 1000 years..... i would just sit around in there. i wouldnt gather everyone together for the "great war". i wouldnt do shit. as a matter of fact, i wouldnt try to steal people away from god. i would guide them directly to the one true religion. wouldnt that really F-up the whole bible? if satan was real why would he play along? he can read.

I predict a few moments of tension in the McD and Tripp households. And could this be the same kindly "Brother" Tripp of recent memory (Letter following Disfellowshipping: www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/107652/1.ashx)? It sounds as though Marshfield, WI is one hotbed of "Apostasy".

when is the truth not the truth

okay i'm still a newbie but i was quite surprised when reading some info of a statement about the 'end being fluid' and that .

'present truth replaces past truth ,however present truth may be replaced by future truth'.

cambridge dictionary definition on truth -the real facts about a situation, event or person.

The WT study article for this week includes decapitated quotes from the 1928 WT. Only two sentences before where they begin quoting, the 1928 WT includes a statement regarding the time of the end beginning in 1799. I find this rather at variance with a statement in the 22.01.73 Awake! (p.8): "Based on what [Jesus] said, along with the words of Daniel and John, Jehovah's witnesses pointed to 1914, decades in advance*, as marking the start of 'the conclusion of the system of things.' " This is clearly untrue. And then the footnote:) "see, for example, the Bible Examiner, vol. XXI, No. 1 (Whole No. 313), October 1876, pages 27, 28." (Also, the Bible Examiner article says nothing of the sort.)

Apparently, the WTS does not find it necessary that the "Truth" be true.

How Long Did it Take You

i just looked at my avatar after i made my 500th post here and realized that i have officially signed up on this forum 3 1/2 yrs ago but was lurking for several months prior to that.

now 500 posts isnt that much for over 3 yrs and i am still a jw in "good" standing while so many of you have come here, left, and moved on already.

so how long did it take you to leave after coming here?

What was the purpose having Eight Day assembly?

Perhaps it was to mimic the Passover + Feast of Unleavened Bread.

Quite a number of years ago, a Jewish friend told me that to him the WTS "sounds like the fourth branch of Judaism." At the time, I didn't understand what he meant...

Film Scenes that got burnt onto your memory

what were some film scenes that pleased or horrified you so much that they stayed vivid in your memory for a long time?

the one i always recall is the scene where anthony hopkins (playing as hannibal lector) lobotomised ray liotta (paul krendler) cutting off pieces of his brain and giving them to him to eat.

he also took some of liotta's cooked brain in a plane and gave them to an unsuspecting passenger boy sitting next to him to eat.

Disclaimer: I have not seen very many films.

In the film "die Bruecke" (1959) there was a split-second scene shot from behind of the silhouettes of two helmeted heads inclined towards each other as the sixteen year old boys spring back up from the safety of their foxhole to man a machine gun. The scene was very reminescent of numerous still shots found in history books and I found it very disturbing. That image has stayed with me throughout the years and even now as I type this my stomache is in a knot as I ask myself: What in God's name were those children doing in a foxhole?

I'm confused about literature cited....

i noticed that some of the literature cited has references to pages in the hundreds like pg 127 etc.... i know the wt publishes books but are there any discrepencies between the original mags published and the bound versions?.

i ask because when i was presenting some info to a friend and gave her the source, she said, "how can that be?

this is a small magazine with only a few pages and you are saying the pages are in the hundreds?".

I should note that the Reprints available from the Chicago Bible Students comprise only the years 1879-1916.

The Watch Tower Reprints are a set of six bound volumes printed in 1920(?) comprising the years 1879-1919 (June), and the pages are numbered sequentially throughout the entire set, thus numbering into the thousands.

Incidentally, those Reprints may still be purchased (as a twelve volume set) from the Chicago Bible Students).
