I used to live close to you, still have family there so I can't say too much since I'm still "In" the Org. Just wanted to say hi and welcome. Have you ever been up on Mount Cheha? That's a cool place. seek2find

Sounds like there making more room and plan to put more emphasis on the important stuff that's going to be in the JW only tower. Maybe more do's and don'ts. Crack that whip! seek2find

Arthur Said: I guess the prohibition of myspace.com is just one more entry into the Watchtower's great Talmud of legalistic do's and dont's .
Well said Arthur, The organization today is just as bad or worse than the Pharasiees were in Jesus day. It's all about them and their endless rules and Christ law of love gets shoved to the side. No help for the homeless, no help for the disaster victims, (unless their good loyal witnesses and have always followed all the rules), no help for the starving children in Africa, everything is to be solved by more service and more meeting attendance. Makes me crazy! seek2find

I think there is a need to be concerned about how much personal information a minor post on a myspace page, and if their talking about meeting someone face to face the parents should be concearned. But I feel this article and much of the past warnings about the internet is part of an ongoing effort to undermine the power and freedom of the internet and to instill fear of it in the heart of the faithfull. I think the underlying message that they are desperate to send is "Be loyal to the organization by staying off the internet" when in actuality they don't want the witnesses and their children to find out the real truth about their history and deceitfull ways. Which is the real reason they don't want any of the witnesses on the internet. Information is power and it has brought down cults in the past, and it may just do so in the future. seek2find
If they don't want me having a myspace page. What would they think about me having a JWD account???????

I'm starting to really get into the New Testament. This is great!
by MichaelM instuff i never really touched much when i was a studying with the witnesses.
i'm in awe.. amazed.. at the things jesus is saying/doing.. some of it is even putting me in tears.
one chapter that i really love so far is i'm in luke and i'm reading about the woman who came into the pharisee's home and started kissing jesus' feet and jesus told the story of the two people that owed money.

Another Elder Suicide?
by still_in74 inwell it looks like a southern ontario elder just took his own life.
i cant go into details as we live in a very small world in "the truth" and even the smallest amount of detail on this one could quickly connect this to me, so for now its on the d-low.. it is a relative of a very close friend and he is godsmacked by it.
he said to me, " we sure seem to be seeing more of this lately arent we?

This post highlights to me why the organazation is so dangerous. It's like the line in the song "Hotel California" "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave". I guess the elder spoken of opted to "check out" rather than suffer the "never leave" part. I also like to think of it like an animial caught in a trap that has a choice to make. Either Gnaw off it's foot and survive (Get disfellowshipped), crippled or remain trapped and suffer eventual death. (By denying consceince and logical reasoning). Neither option is a good one. The situation is worse the longer you've been in. So sorry to hear of another loss. seek2find

What's the main purpose to the out of town Assemblies?
by JH inwith all the meetings jw's attend each week, why do they need a district assembly or circuit assembly?.
is it to show how big the organization is or is it just to baptize a few.. couldn't this be done staying in their home town.
is there a financial advantage to the watchtower to have these assemblies out of town ?.

The bad thing for some that live in rural areas is that they have to travel to the bigger cities to circut assemblies and SADs some travel over 200 miles and have to stay overnight. Even tho the smaller closer towns have facilities, the bigger city is chosen because of convience to the CO and DO and visiting speakers. So the same people have to travel long distances while the ones that live closer to the big city don't have to do anything special. Not quite fair, but then again who said all in life was fair. :) seek2find

Why label it a cult?
by rebel8 inwhat purpose does it serve?
it just seems to polarize people and ostracize those who aren't ready or willing to label it a cult.
anyone can look up the dictionary definition of a cult (or experts' definitions).

I think it's like the debate over whether Alcholism is a disease or an addiction (Weakness) it's all in how each individual preceives it. If we label it as a cult, we (some of us anyway)are making the statement that we have wised up and aren't going to fall for the deception anymore. As far as the leadership goes, I don't beleive any of the leaders at the top beleive that it's anything other than "Gods Organization" in some ways they are the most deceived of all. Like Ray said in "Crisis of Conscience" they are victims of the organizational concept. seek2find
