Divine Inspiration(?) of Scripture
by hmike inoriginally, i was going to post this in my dr. ehrman's "problem" verse topic, but i didn't want to get too far off track, and this post is about divine inspiration in general, so i decided to give it a thread of its own.
1. translations are not referred to as inspired.
yet the septuagint, the greek translation of the hebrew scriptures written before the time of jesus, was quoted in the new testament.

Dr. Ehrman's "Problem" Verse
by hmike insome of you know about dr. bart ehrman.
for those who don't, dr. ehrman is a professor of religious studies at the university of north carolina, chapel hill, and has written several books including misquoting jesus: the story behind who changed the bible and why, in which he includes some biographical material.
in this book, ehrman recounts how he became a christian through a youth ministry while in high school, and he claimed to have had a genuine "born again" experience (although he doesn't give any details of what that experience was for him).

his releases include the case for faith, the case for christ, and, most recently, the case for the real jesus.
a journalist with a legal background, his case books contain interviews with scholars and experts who give scholarly defenses of the christian positions to which the books are devoted.

Seeing Patterns That Aren't There?
by hmike inin his book, how we believe, religious skeptic michael shermer states "in our complex and contingent world, random events often happen in seemingly peculiar sequences that cry out for meaning.
we usually rise to the occasion, finding patterns in nature even when they do not exist or have no real significance...." a claim somewhat along this line was made in the tv show numb3rs by mathematics professor epps--that people look for, and think they find, patterns in random events.. you can't watch a movie or tv show about crime without seeing detectives attempting to solve crimes by trying to find patterns in a collection of information.
they work backwards from the end result to find links between the pieces of information and possibly back to a cause.. yes, we look for patterns.

Song "Raccoon Revival"
by hmike inthis may not be a great place to ask about this, but i'm desperate for some information.. back in the early 70s, there was a little-known song that i heard on pop radio stations.
the song was titled, "raccoon revival.
" it was about a spiritually dead church in some rural midwest area, or maybe the ozarks.

What Happened to the Body?
by hmike ini'm fairly new here, so please excuse me if this has been discussed before.
it seemed like an appropriate time to bring this up.. suppose we accept that there really was a man jesus, rabbi, teacher, etc., but just a mortal man.
so if he didn't resurrect, what happened to the body, and how was the "myth" of the resurrection perpetuated, especially in light of the numerous "witnesses" (some of whom were still alive when the accounts were written, if we can believe that part of the accounts) and the effect this had on their lives?
