against our wishes she got baptised at 16 because she got brainwashed by her cousin.

the last year or so she hasn't been so gung ho about the "truth".

anyway the elders came down on her for not getting her time in the last couple months because she absolutely hates zoom letter writing.

I’m sorry about your daughter and especially that she’s taking medication for anxiety. When I was her age that would have been undeard of. Just think..a religion that causes people to need medication? What’s wrong with this picture? My God. Get out.

That is a very good philosophy and I read this years ago in a book. We ALL have worth and it is not tied to our possessions or occupation, etc.. But try telling that to some stuck up individuals with money. 🙄

However, the idea of anybody living their life enslaved to what others think or might think of them is absurd..In many cases, other people aren’t thinking of you at all, least of all the Witnesses.

I couldn’t care what they think or even if they had a brain to think with!

Never Forget 9/11

Yes, the anniversary has come for 9/11. This is a day we should never forget.

An aunt had said that when you leave the house in the morning...you don’t know if you’re going to put the key in the door at night. I was so grateful I got home from NYC that fateful day because so many others did not.

You are absolutely correct about this. This was my observation back when I was in the JW religion...They glorify the unemployed, but imagine the ‘sinful, meeting-missing, paycheck-drawing and fiscally responsible’ will support these people. Dream on...

Back then because of the negativity I got because of my full-time job, I was determined NEVER to give anything to any ‘exemplary Christian’ there who didn’t want to work.. Let their so-called spiritual friends give them money! You know. All the people who invited them to those special gatherings I wasn’t invited to!

Last year I explained this to an old JW friend. I told them I had NO intention of being targeted now to give money for anybody there who either didn’t want to work OR who didn’t work sufficiently or make plans for their future.

I’m sorry for all these JWs (including fired bethelites)..but they are going to have to get help from brothers with businesses.

Absolutely sickening that the JW religion in the year 2020 is STILL going on with the hateful tirade against secular work..making it sound like ‘it’s no big deal’ if somebody is out of work.

Meanwhile, he and others in headquarters there are not paying for any of their own expenses of food, clothing and shelter, etc. Is this being in touch with reality?

I was knocked, shunned, hardly invited to gatherings back in the day because I had a full-time job that I refused to quit.. I cannot say it enough times that my life would have been ruined if I followed their advice. I was advised to quit my job with benefits; take up housecleaning (physical labor, no benefits - I hated it) and DO favors for the Users (which is what they tried to do with young women).

Thankfully, I rejected this advice (coming from hypocritical older people COLLECTING THEIR PENSIONS, I might add). These older people in the congregation were IN the workforce with decent jobs with benefits but yet they were telling ME I should quit everything and pursue poverty. It was as though I should jump from a plane without a parachute.

All those hypocritical older people have died after living a cushy life. The poverty being preached was certainly not for them, just some other unfortunate person! It makes me sick what I encountered back then. Again.. I wouldn’t not be Retired today if I had listened back then and this is a sobering thought.

Yes, I had noticed that site seems to mostly be made up of young people.

But as far as them being ‘free from polarizing politics’, you’re wrong. They bought into the whole BLM thing a few months ago - hook, line and sinker!!! Nauseating...In fact, I stopped looking at the site for a while...As far as ‘dishonest’ topics on politics 🙄: it depends on your viewpoint!

I also loved the Laura Ingalls Wilder books when I was in grade school and I believe I read all or most of them (?). I remember “On the Banks of Plum Creek” and “By The Shores of Silver Lake”.

Girls got married younger back then and people were more serious in general..no comparison to today!

Received a letter from a JW today.

it started off as "dear friend ,as one of your neighbours" , however the postmark on the letter was from 2 townships away ?

a good twenty minute car drive away .a minor point i know.

it goes on about how she is concerned about the effects that current events are having on the welfare of the community and the corona-virus has prevented her from discussing the issues personally with me.. she then goes on to state and quote jeremiah 29:11 and then goes on to say "for more information about this promise and other questions like :.

This is a person who cannot afford the cost but does this anyway. I’m sure she does this because she feels she must (whether peer pressure or whatever).

I can only imagine receiving one of these pathetic communications and tearing it up and thinking that somebody wasted time and postage.

Yes, I certainly believe it’s true if they laid all their cards on the table nobody would join.

I agree with you that it’s emotion and not intelligence as to why certain people stay JWs - long after others have fled because of bad treatment and/or disagreement over doctrines.

Some people will argue though that it was ‘facts’ (or facts as they see it) that made them join or stay..Whatever.. I also believe a good amount stay there because of family and they are ‘faking it’. Not a good way to be but they do it.

I can’t imagine anybody remaining an elder and faking it..at least not for long (step down at least).

And I don’t believe the excuse that somebody remains an elder faking it because they hope to ‘help or awaken others’. 🙄 Sorry, but I don’t buy this for one minute no matter what lies they tell themselves.

I agree with you that going overboard with hand sanitizers and insanely wiping everything down with chemicals every step of the way is unnecessary and possibly harmful..as we DO need some bacteria to keep our immune systems healthy.

What I was referring to in my post is the general disregard and lazy habits that TOO many people have fallen into. The Covid crisis has simply reintroduced something like simple hand washing with plain old soap and water (especially after using the toilet). Too bad this became a lost art to certain lazy people!

The problem is that people did not think they were joining a cult when they got involved with the JWs.

I certainly didn’t know and in fact I didn’t think it was a real religion per se. There was no internet back in those days and no way to really research anything. They said a lot of things which turned out to be not-so-factual: they told me ‘everybody was equal’ and ‘they had no clergy class’.. Meanwhile, they have what I consider a plainclothes clergy - and just about as many titles as the churches they knock.

I was young and made a wrong detour. I didn’t fit in because (thankfully in retrospect) I would not make the stupid concession that I quit a decent job to pioneer..I lingered a little longer than I should have but at least I got the hell Out.
