While I don’t have a picture of that article, I do remember the thread. I am pretty sure it was within the last two years (?).. I was outraged at the artwork depicting a needy elderly JW woman looking in her empty refrigerator but YET in another picture putting money in the contribution box!!!
These artwork pictures in the literature are hints and suggestions..as we all know. But, I would wager that the minds who thought this one up never missed a meal.
In real life, this lady should be at her neighborhood food bank getting provisions!
does anybody know what this message will contain ?
is it designed to provoke a response that will bring persecution on the religion ?
or is it just going to be some meaningless weak campaign to get the rank and file all excited about it and achieving nothing.. or is it going to suggest to the government officials that this mob could very well be the next jonestown /wacol incident and we need to act now.

I was always puzzled as well by the JW religion thinking that the governments of the world were supposed to be terrified of their message. They must see themselves as the modern day equivalent of Moses going to see Pharaoh.

three teens were convicted of stealing and the punishment is cut off their fingers.
some past punishments were finger and foot removal.
pretty barbaric but i bet they don’t have too many looters there..

The reason that I would be against this barbarity is because it would render a person helpless who cannot work. You would have yet more people around begging!
I would make a thief do community service to make up something to society.

I agree with your description of what the JW religion is headed for and turning into right now as we speak: ..an online religion with maybe some assemblies a couple of times a year. Whether these will be at a rented facility or something they own who knows?
Maybe some still-ins are aware of this but I wonder if some are thinking things are going back to the good old-fashioned days?.. I tend to doubt it.

They may have been given ‘free’ to the congregations - but I read somewhere it was suggested that if people’s food bills were lower because of this ‘gift’..they should donate that difference to the religion.
thanks petra and atlantis for providing the latest announcements from the watchtower.. they are telling congregations to replace the 15 minute local needs talk in the midweek meeting of october 26th with a talk on neutrality.
i am not sure if this is due to there being a usa election on tues 3rd, november or because of their worldwide preaching campaign targeting government officials.
it does sound like it is due to the usa election due to comments about propaganda and political promises.

I agree with you about them not quoting scriptures that will shoot down Pharaisaical rules.
A particular one I never heard quoted was in Thessalonians:..”He that does not work shall not eat.” The religion must not like that scripture because it goes against their knocking secular jobs and pushing pioneering even when people can’t afford it!
I should have quoted this scripture to meddling JWs years back who wanted me to quit my full time job!..But, they would have hated me all the more if I did!

Yes, I believe that scripture Smiddy is referring to says exactly that...And I totally reject anybody who sets themselves up as an authority and thinks THEY have the right to tell everybody else they are more qualified to say what a scripture means.

Yes, that’s right.
We ALL are supposed to be in subjection to the ‘superior authorities’ according to the scriptures. That would include the religion as well..right? That’s how I interpret the scripture.
Also, all this BS about Witnesses being politically neutral and ‘no part of the world’ is false. They are very much part of the world with their hands out looking for what they can get. Also, many JWs have definite opinions about political things - even if they are painfully ignorant in general.

Not to detract from the O.P., but they apparently have a more sensible attitude towards jobs/careers in Australia it seems..Unless, of course, the attitude was different towards women - and they’re treated like I was..which is to say like an outcast.
Luckily and perhaps because I was NOT raised a JW, I ignored the Witnesses’ attitudes and stayed in the workforce until retirement.
In the U.S. where I’m from.. JWs are expected to NOT concern themselves about jobs, money or anything apparently. They are encouraged to turn down jobs (even if unemployed) if it means they will miss any meetings. There is a recent thread about a talk given at a convention saying something along these lines.
