Some Jw's are the worst employees

i found a company and employed an elder as an underwriter and two ms as sales and marketing.

anyway, this elder will delegate his work to the ms in sales and marketing, so he can go home early.

he knew when he got started that this would be a 10 hour a day job with some saturday.

Whether you want to admit this or not…because of the tenets of the JW religion, an employer or whoever is MORE likely to get stuck with somebody who is a dud as opposed to a so-called worldly person, in my opinion.

Yes, while it’s true that you can find bad types of people in the general population, you are at a greater risk to run into this with JWs. I can give several reasons why: “”I’m your brother and you ‘owe’ me either a freebie, a discount or whatever. And if I’m irresponsible and not-so-bright, So What? You still have to tolerate me. If I do wrong, Too bad! You must forgive me””. Oh, and what about somebody who reveals a confidence and causes an employer to be sued?

I can only imagine nowadays with all those bethelites who got kicked out and Witnesses with businesses hiring some of them. What happens if the employee screws up or is not wanted anymore for any number of reasons? Is the brother with the business supposed to just tolerate and keep on somebody who is at best useless or at worst a liability?

Does anyone have a photo copy they can share of a TMS topic?

i am looking for a tms that was published in the early 70s that said many have sold homes to go where the need was great, this is a fine way to spend ones time in the last days.

i am trying to remember how it was said to the best of my knowledge but this is close.

Everything you say is true.

I came into the JW religion as a young working person in the later part of the ‘70s. Nobody ever mentioned a word about the mess you describe. It was all hidden from me and other new recruits. So, all the Witnesses who sold all their belongings, etc. after 1975 had to start all over again. They suffered in silence because it was never mentioned.

I ended up ‘Fading’ from the religion after the 1995 Generation teaching and in time I Retired from my full-time job. What you mention about elderly JWs today who have a small SS amount of income because they barely worked is an actual fact..These are the ones who pioneered years ago and hated me because I wouldn’t quit my full-time job.

Today there are far too many needy people in the JW religion with their hands out - and I’m Glad I’m not around any of them.

History repeated: pre-1975 trend of selling homes to ‘downsize’

i saw this thread on reddit.

i think the reason for this is that the 1975 fiasco is never mentioned in the jw religion.

nobody mentioned it to me when i came in the years after.. the problem with this is that all the sad stories were never told (or hushed up) of people who sold off homes, etc.

The deceased Witness, in all probability, might have been one of those who sold all they had before 1975 so they could pioneer until the End.

It’s also possible that the speaker was trying to make a ‘point’ to the so-called ‘weak’🙄. If I were sitting there and knew the whole story, the only ‘point’ I would understand is that I’d never repeat the guy’s mistake…

When the end didn’t come this person had to start all over again and was probably bitter. They didn’t leave the religion for whatever reason (maybe family in)? The speaker either knew the deceased personally or knew about him and figured many people present knew the story so he slipped in his favorable remarks. Whatever.

The fact is: there are many like the deceased JW…including those younger ones who repeated the same mistakes in recent years!..This was because the 1975 failure was swept under the rug and these embarrassing stories never told so yet more naive people did similar foolish things!

it requests "a declaration that its elders are entitled to" clergy privilege, or, in the alternative,.

to the extent that the clergyman privilege is determined to exclude its elders on the basis that they are "members of [a] religious organization[] in which members other than the leader thereof are deemed clergymen or ministers," the court declare the statute to be unconstitutional.

Confidentiality did you say?..First, I won’t even go into the hypocritical back and forth when they say they Do and out the other side of their mouth they say they Don’t have clergy.

As somebody raised Catholic I can say that a priest usually only speaks to other priests and generally is a priest for life. Now: contrast that to the Witness religion where an elder speaks to many people. He may also step down. What, then, happens to all the confidential things he has heard??..Everybody is at the mercy of his discretion and that is assuming he even HAS any.. His wife and her eldress friends and pio-sneers likely heard about everything. I, myself, heard confidential things that ‘leaked’ out.

This isn’t even the exception but is the rule in congregations as far as I was concerned. I considered it a joke, sad to say.

Also, last I heard he isn’t bound legally like a doctor or lawyer.. So, what you have is chaos with No confidentiality and anything getting out. Also, an elder confers with others about judicial matters including the ‘society’.. So, there is No confidentiality since many people have been told about the matter in the first place. This is in sharp contrast to the Churches where it is certainly closer to confidentiality.

You are only kidding yourself if you think there is any confidentiality in that religion.

1914- responsible for the biggest decrease in JW's?

theres a couple of threads re: 1914 on the board right now and it got me thinking.. the jw doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.. 1975- within one generation.. 1995 - new understanding of the word generation.. 2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.. 2015- infamous overlapping generations chart featuring david splane.. its obvious the org is changing the goalposts and constantly trying to squeeze as much time as they can before they have to abandon this altogether.

or will they come up with something new?.

does anyone else think this ever changing doctrine is responsible for the biggest loss of members?.

I think you are right. That 1995 teaching on Generation was what did it for me.

At the meeting the article was studied, I instantaneously knew in my mind that my time in the Witness religion was over and I planned my ‘Fade’.. I believe the religion lost a lot of people in the several years after that teaching came out. Just because people didn’t walk out right then and there doesn’t mean it didn’t profoundly affect them.

Hopefully many JWs considered 1995 a wake-up call and realized they needed a serious job with benefits (which I’m grateful I already had). Maybe even types who criticized me realized they HAD to prepare for retirement.. Here we are twenty seven years later and I’m sure many are glad they did.

A hypocritical elder let it slip in conversation that he was working a little extra here and there to prepare. Of course, he wouldn’t give me the satisfaction of saying he was building up more money for retirement or was influenced by the 1995 teaching. 😉 God forbid he should say that I was doing the right thing all along because that would be contrary to the party line of going out in the ministry and pretending money grows on trees!

2022 - 1914 = ?

obviously not the orgs brightest moment for teaching that the generation of 1914 would be alive to see paradise.

forget the "new light" that bought them an extra 100 years, which if any other religion would've done this, the org would scream false religion.

the fact is that for 75 years this #1 recruiting message from the society was a lie.. i asked a current jw to get a calculator and do the math: 2022 - 1914 = an angry reaction.

I could say I’m sorry for your father but what if he’s happy? As long as you are out he can believe what he wants. I’m glad I’m Out and don’t care what anybody believes about anything.

Yes there are a few elderly people scattered here and there who are of that particular generation. When these people finally die off, I truly believe the Witness religion will be secretly RELIEVED.. No disgruntled living witnesses left to any wrong teaching. This has always been the solution to any embarrassing or faulty teachings, wrong prophecy and whatnot.. Father Time.

I know this is a fourteen year old thread and this is now 2022 and you might not be on the forum anymore.

As for what you say that the “organization issued a correction in 1980 or 1982 setting everything right” and “only apostates make a big deal out of this”:🙄..are you aware in the last decade or so a new bumper crop of gullible people repeated the SAME mistakes of pre-1975 ‘selling houses and insurance policies’ to go ‘serve where the need was greater’ as mentioned in your post??

If the 1975 embarrassing fiasco and the foolish behavior you mentioned in the JW religion was not hidden and swept under the rug..than maybe more people wouldn’t have repeated the same stupidity recently.

what is brazen conduct according to the watchtower?.

I always thought they changed it from “loose conduct” to “brazen conduct” because the former somehow led people to think somebody committed immorality!

When they used the term “loose conduct” years ago I wondered if it was deliberate. I thought maybe they reasoned that if people assumed a person committed fornication it would be a deterrent to any Witnesses asking ‘what happened’ since it’s embarrassing.

After all:..the end goal is to keep JWs from talking to a person who is Out because of the fear of what secrets a disgruntled ex-JW will tell..For example: what if a JW was wronged in some way or had issues with elders or doctrines! They don’t want anybody else in the congregation knowing these things.

I’m sorry about the bullying you received in childhood at the hands of non-Witnesses.😔

Bullying is universal it seems..I went to Catholic school. I experienced bullying to some degree in the neighborhood as well as in the schoolyard. Children are really cruel as you have seen. I had kids make fun of my name and one of my siblings in the earlier years. In seventh grade or so, I wasn’t accepted by the ‘cool girls’ since I looked younger than them. (I was 5 in first grade so was actually younger than my classmates.). Of course, I got ‘respect’ when I started to develop, etc. Yes, it was the good old ‘School of hard knocks’ which is Life and it’s a journey nobody but you can take.

Anyway, I got through my childhood and went to Catholic high school. I certainly had my fill of nuns after that. I joined the workforce after graduation (did some community college). Some years after I got involved with the JWs.

Yes, it was a rocky road. Even though I cannot know what it was like to be raised a JW, from what I have heard I have no regrets that I was raised outside it..It may not sound like much, but I had self-esteem, parents who expected me to get somewhere in life, friends, holidays, etc.. I also picked up on bits of practical information that many JWs either don’t have because of being so sheltered - or have to learn at a late date!

What are the benefits of doubts?

what are the benefits of having created the human mind being able to have doubts inside (or regarding) the true religion (jude 22)?.

because if you have doubts, you are not sure, so it is difficult to believe and trust.

and if it is difficult to believe and trust, it is even more difficult to have faith since it is the "assured" expectation of what is hoped for (hebrews 11:1).

We have doubts because we have reasoning ability and intelligence. We are able to hear a thing and our minds analyze it and kick it around and then we come to a conclusion.

It’s being involved in a cult or fear-based religion that gets us to doubt our own God given intelligence and causes us to ignore the obvious and makes us stupid, in my opinion.
