Prediction of how Watchtower going to be in 5 Years.

i can see it that watchtower will become an online/tv based group with just con-vention hall$.. field service would be letter writing and phone preaching, door to door is done.. watchtower will have pay to view programs and still ask for donations after all that.. zoom meetings are here to stay.

kingdumb halls will be sold off except for con-vention venues, or need for new ones$.. df'ing will continue.

the craziness will continue.

You are probably right about what the JW religion will become in the near future.

I’m sure they will probably sell off more halls and will consolidate further. It will be more online with Zoom here to stay. There will be more asking for $$ as you mentioned. There will probably be smaller type conventions maybe held more frequently since they need some in-person meetings for control and contribution$.

I also believe the ‘point system’ you mention for ‘loyalty’. Of course, they won’t call it that. I do think and might have said before that they will be more vocal and nervy towards those in congregations who aren’t giving handouts to the deadbeats there!

Glad I got out years ago. At least when I was there, the majority of the Witnesses around me were middle class homeowner types and weren’t begging or cornering people for money!

But, the demographics have changed for the worse. I think it’s reaching the point where I don’t see how it’s possible for responsible sane people to even continue there. They would be pestered constantly.. Not good. 👎

Some Jw's are the worst employees

i found a company and employed an elder as an underwriter and two ms as sales and marketing.

anyway, this elder will delegate his work to the ms in sales and marketing, so he can go home early.

he knew when he got started that this would be a 10 hour a day job with some saturday.

Regarding them being tenants:..I’m astounded at the nervy JWs you mentioned who just ‘showed up’ with their crap in a U-Haul after ignoring you about signing paperwork about the deposit, etc. They must’ve imagined they would just slide on by and you would be ‘put on the spot’. I’m glad you made them pay up. They finally left at some point. Good riddance.

It would appear the negatives outweigh the positives with JWs. Anything ‘good’ about them, it would seem, is really superficial: conservative dress, no profanity, seemingly respectful..But, that’s where the good ends, in my opinion..Get ready for all the problems and issues related to their beliefs and the warped view of the world and loyalty to a secular employer (as in they don’t have any) as discussed in posts in this thread.

i am looking for a tms that was published in the early 70s that said many have sold homes to go where the need was great, this is a fine way to spend ones time in the last days.

i am trying to remember how it was said to the best of my knowledge but this is close.

How, you say? These misguided people thought Armageddon would come before their money ran out. The ‘New System’ would be here so therefore finding housing would be no problem. After all, the rest of mankind would supposedly be dead..so they could live in that big beautiful house they always coveted. 🙄

JW GONE BAD:

That 1969 article should go down in infamy. There are many JWs alive today (mostly the Boomer generation) who heeded this advice and are suffering today as you mentioned. They have next to no preparation for retirement and have to work hard jobs.

This mistake has been repeated in recent years with a new batch of younger people selling assets to go pioneer. Some also dropped out of the workforce before actual retirement age to go pioneer. Their unwise actions have not been discouraged and I’m sure they got pats on the back from people in their congregations.

The result of all this stupidity and policies of no college and no career is that today the congregations are filled with too many people with their hands out (I bet more than anywhere else)..I realize the halls were closed for two years because of Covid so these people needing handouts had to get creative in asking for money.

There are many reasons I’m Glad I’m Out of the JW religion. But, I would NEVER go anywhere I am ‘the responsible person who worked, etc.’ with a target painted on me for all the fools who are looking for a handout! Nope.

Reading this thread just makes me realize I never had the slightest interest in this man when I was active in the JW religion! When I read the little bits of history about him and Russell I yawned..I didn’t give two sh#ts and that’s the truth..I was only interested in end-time prophecy.

Reflecting on it all now, I’m so ashamed I ever got involved in the religion. What a hard life lesson learned! But, I’m glad it’s Over now and in the past. 👍🏻

Regarding the brother with the motor home who ended up getting divorced and leaving the religion: I’m sure they were so bitter about what didn’t happen at the end of 1975.

When New Year’s Eve came they must have felt so tricked! I can imagine the fights in this and many JW homes of people who made sacrifices and risky decisions! (“What do we do now, genius? This was your idea, etc.”).

Yes, some older JWs have privately said the religion Did predict 1975.. What bothers me is how well they hid it from unsuspecting new recruits such as myself who came in the years afterwards..I cringe when I think about a lot of things. I’m just so happy I got out of there! 🙏🏻

Whether you want to admit this or not…because of the tenets of the JW religion, an employer or whoever is MORE likely to get stuck with somebody who is a dud as opposed to a so-called worldly person, in my opinion.

Yes, while it’s true that you can find bad types of people in the general population, you are at a greater risk to run into this with JWs. I can give several reasons why: “”I’m your brother and you ‘owe’ me either a freebie, a discount or whatever. And if I’m irresponsible and not-so-bright, So What? You still have to tolerate me. If I do wrong, Too bad! You must forgive me””. Oh, and what about somebody who reveals a confidence and causes an employer to be sued?

I can only imagine nowadays with all those bethelites who got kicked out and Witnesses with businesses hiring some of them. What happens if the employee screws up or is not wanted anymore for any number of reasons? Is the brother with the business supposed to just tolerate and keep on somebody who is at best useless or at worst a liability?

Everything you say is true.

I came into the JW religion as a young working person in the later part of the ‘70s. Nobody ever mentioned a word about the mess you describe. It was all hidden from me and other new recruits. So, all the Witnesses who sold all their belongings, etc. after 1975 had to start all over again. They suffered in silence because it was never mentioned.

I ended up ‘Fading’ from the religion after the 1995 Generation teaching and in time I Retired from my full-time job. What you mention about elderly JWs today who have a small SS amount of income because they barely worked is an actual fact..These are the ones who pioneered years ago and hated me because I wouldn’t quit my full-time job.

Today there are far too many needy people in the JW religion with their hands out - and I’m Glad I’m not around any of them.

History repeated: pre-1975 trend of selling homes to ‘downsize’

i saw this thread on reddit.

i think the reason for this is that the 1975 fiasco is never mentioned in the jw religion.

nobody mentioned it to me when i came in the years after.. the problem with this is that all the sad stories were never told (or hushed up) of people who sold off homes, etc.

The deceased Witness, in all probability, might have been one of those who sold all they had before 1975 so they could pioneer until the End.

It’s also possible that the speaker was trying to make a ‘point’ to the so-called ‘weak’🙄. If I were sitting there and knew the whole story, the only ‘point’ I would understand is that I’d never repeat the guy’s mistake…

When the end didn’t come this person had to start all over again and was probably bitter. They didn’t leave the religion for whatever reason (maybe family in)? The speaker either knew the deceased personally or knew about him and figured many people present knew the story so he slipped in his favorable remarks. Whatever.

The fact is: there are many like the deceased JW…including those younger ones who repeated the same mistakes in recent years!..This was because the 1975 failure was swept under the rug and these embarrassing stories never told so yet more naive people did similar foolish things!

Confidentiality did you say?..First, I won’t even go into the hypocritical back and forth when they say they Do and out the other side of their mouth they say they Don’t have clergy.

As somebody raised Catholic I can say that a priest usually only speaks to other priests and generally is a priest for life. Now: contrast that to the Witness religion where an elder speaks to many people. He may also step down. What, then, happens to all the confidential things he has heard??..Everybody is at the mercy of his discretion and that is assuming he even HAS any.. His wife and her eldress friends and pio-sneers likely heard about everything. I, myself, heard confidential things that ‘leaked’ out.

This isn’t even the exception but is the rule in congregations as far as I was concerned. I considered it a joke, sad to say.

Also, last I heard he isn’t bound legally like a doctor or lawyer.. So, what you have is chaos with No confidentiality and anything getting out. Also, an elder confers with others about judicial matters including the ‘society’.. So, there is No confidentiality since many people have been told about the matter in the first place. This is in sharp contrast to the Churches where it is certainly closer to confidentiality.

You are only kidding yourself if you think there is any confidentiality in that religion.

1914- responsible for the biggest decrease in JW's?

theres a couple of threads re: 1914 on the board right now and it got me thinking.. the jw doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.. 1975- within one generation.. 1995 - new understanding of the word generation.. 2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.. 2015- infamous overlapping generations chart featuring david splane.. its obvious the org is changing the goalposts and constantly trying to squeeze as much time as they can before they have to abandon this altogether.

or will they come up with something new?.

does anyone else think this ever changing doctrine is responsible for the biggest loss of members?.

I think you are right. That 1995 teaching on Generation was what did it for me.

At the meeting the article was studied, I instantaneously knew in my mind that my time in the Witness religion was over and I planned my ‘Fade’.. I believe the religion lost a lot of people in the several years after that teaching came out. Just because people didn’t walk out right then and there doesn’t mean it didn’t profoundly affect them.

Hopefully many JWs considered 1995 a wake-up call and realized they needed a serious job with benefits (which I’m grateful I already had). Maybe even types who criticized me realized they HAD to prepare for retirement.. Here we are twenty seven years later and I’m sure many are glad they did.

A hypocritical elder let it slip in conversation that he was working a little extra here and there to prepare. Of course, he wouldn’t give me the satisfaction of saying he was building up more money for retirement or was influenced by the 1995 teaching. 😉 God forbid he should say that I was doing the right thing all along because that would be contrary to the party line of going out in the ministry and pretending money grows on trees!
