Just never mind about these JWs that don’t want to work. It’s not your problem to motivate them. We already know they are looking for a free ride…Just go about your own business and ignore them.
I would also have signs that say “NO Soliciting”..I have seen these in businesses. I also wouldn’t have unnecessary chitchat if anybody wanders in and doesn’t look like they want to order anything ..The only thing I would say is “can I help you?” No talking about the weather or anything.
If you don’t get a response, take your eyes off them and smilingly greet the next customer and go about your business ignoring the person not ordering.. I can’t imagine they would have the nerve to hang out after that.
Have you spoken to the local hall about this? [Tell me: are you afraid the JWs will boycott your business? I hope you are popular enough that there are enough other customers.]

I didn’t want to think you didn’t have the backbone or courage!
Inaction and not speaking up would only encourage ever more outrageous and nervy behavior on the part of these people. What your JW mother does privately with her money is her business. However, once the business is yours it’s in your hands now.

Since this sounds like an ongoing problem of them coming onto your business as you have said asking for money, etc, WHY have you not attempted to politely put a stop to it?? Or did you and they are disregarding it?

Even though you said your mom was generous, WHY have you not explained that you run things now (I assume you’re a grown man and not a child) and any past generosity has stopped.

I’m long ‘Faded’ from the religion and, Thankfully, never had any family there.
I can’t imagine having to be afraid gullible family members would fall for something of this magnitude! ..Let’s hope the scenario you mentioned never takes place..There would be a much bigger fiasco than post-1975 with frantic people with no money left..and a world in such bad shape it’d be almost impossible to recover..At least in the ‘70s we still had a good economy! Not now.

Hearing all this makes me very glad I’m no longer around the Witnesses as I would almost certainly be drawn into a verbal altercation. These nervy people tried to ruin my life and get me to quit my full-time job to pursue poverty and be in the ministry. I wouldn’t be Retired if I listened to them. The mentality of having an army of deadbeats who don’t want to work but instead want to be out in the ministry pioneering (to fit into the crowd 🙄) is unsustainable.. I assume these JWs are either on disability or do some work part time and scrounge around. I really have no patience and couldn’t have this sh#t around me!
Gone are the days I tolerated being in car groups with weirdos. But at least back when I was in they were mostly Working weirdos. Not this!
The main reason I left the religion was 1995 and them leading everybody on. This particular situation, however, about the great numbers of people there who are irresponsible and therefore needy is a self-created cultural problem (by the religion). I absolutely REFUSE to be around this.
The religion created this situation over the decades with their hypocritical stand against college/careers; encouraging ridiculous 1975 behavior like selling assets and pioneering ‘til the money runs out; plus bringing in people with serious issues to fill empty seats in the halls (vacated most likely by ‘Faders’ and older people who passed away). The result is the demographic changed for the worse. When these elderly (Boomers and older) are gone, it’s going to resemble an insane asylum because I don’t believe any of the younger ones with a brain will hang around.
Somebody would have to be out of their damn mind to even want to be around this!..It serves the religion right that their monstrosity of hypocrisy collapse in on itself and it can’t happen soon enough.

You are probably right about what the JW religion will become in the near future.
I’m sure they will probably sell off more halls and will consolidate further. It will be more online with Zoom here to stay. There will be more asking for $$ as you mentioned. There will probably be smaller type conventions maybe held more frequently since they need some in-person meetings for control and contribution$.
I also believe the ‘point system’ you mention for ‘loyalty’. Of course, they won’t call it that. I do think and might have said before that they will be more vocal and nervy towards those in congregations who aren’t giving handouts to the deadbeats there!
Glad I got out years ago. At least when I was there, the majority of the Witnesses around me were middle class homeowner types and weren’t begging or cornering people for money!
But, the demographics have changed for the worse. I think it’s reaching the point where I don’t see how it’s possible for responsible sane people to even continue there. They would be pestered constantly.. Not good. 👎
i found a company and employed an elder as an underwriter and two ms as sales and marketing.
anyway, this elder will delegate his work to the ms in sales and marketing, so he can go home early.
he knew when he got started that this would be a 10 hour a day job with some saturday.

Regarding them being tenants:..I’m astounded at the nervy JWs you mentioned who just ‘showed up’ with their crap in a U-Haul after ignoring you about signing paperwork about the deposit, etc. They must’ve imagined they would just slide on by and you would be ‘put on the spot’. It would appear the negatives outweigh the positives with JWs. Anything ‘good’ about them, it would seem, is really superficial: conservative dress, no profanity, seemingly respectful..But, that’s where the good ends, in my opinion..Get ready for all the problems and issues related to their beliefs and the warped view of the world and loyalty to a secular employer (as in they don’t have any) as discussed in posts in this thread.

How, you say? These misguided people thought Armageddon would come before their money ran out. The ‘New System’ would be here so therefore finding housing would be no problem. That 1969 article should go down in infamy. There are many JWs alive today (mostly the Boomer generation) who heeded this advice and are suffering today as you mentioned. They have next to no preparation for retirement and have to work hard jobs.
This mistake has been repeated in recent years with a new batch of younger people selling assets to go pioneer. Some also dropped out of the workforce before actual retirement age to go pioneer. Their unwise actions have not been discouraged and I’m sure they got pats on the back from people in their congregations.
The result of all this stupidity and policies of no college and no career is that today the congregations are filled with too many people with their hands out (I bet more than anywhere else)..I realize the halls were closed for two years because of Covid so these people needing handouts had to get creative in asking for money.
There are many reasons I’m Glad I’m Out of the JW religion. But, I would NEVER go anywhere I am ‘the responsible person who worked, etc.’ with a target painted on me for all the fools who are looking for a handout! Nope.

Reading this thread just makes me realize I never had the slightest interest in this man when I was active in the JW religion! When I read the little bits of history about him and Russell I yawned..I didn’t give two sh#ts and that’s the truth..I was only interested in end-time prophecy.
Reflecting on it all now, I’m so ashamed I ever got involved in the religion. What a hard life lesson learned! But, I’m glad it’s Over now and in the past. 👍🏻
