Real reasons behind this change?

just a good conversation at home about the hour report change.. we think the change was not impmemented because the gb are such a lovely bunch of old grandpa's having the best in mind for us individuals.. there will be only, and we say only, an organizational reason for it.

a legal reason, to protect jw.org and it's officials and wealth.. next step?

maybe selling more kh and when jw hollywood studio's in rampoo are ready a change to tv subscription.. what do you think?

I had heard of a few people in the JW religion who quit good jobs to pioneer - only to end up broke and have to find work again. I am glad you found good jobs before it was too late.

Maybe my non-JW upbringing saved me from the pioneering absurdity in the late ‘70s and ‘80s! .. They tried to pressure me to quit my job!

When I heard about this shocking news that no more FS hours reports were needed - the first thing I thought about were Witnesses who pioneered their whole lives. I felt sick to my stomach because I would not be retired if I fell for this garbage!!!

When I think about it now, it is all worth it to have been unpopular back then and not invited to special dinners!.. Like as though this nonsense would mean anything today!

Why do Catholics pray to Mary/saints?

a very good friend of many years told me that he prays to mary and makes requests.

i didn't try to discuss/debate the subject - his choice - but wondered how catholics would view these scriptures: .

I was raised Roman Catholic and we certainly did pray to saints as well as pray to God (for which we had no other name except ‘Father’ as in ‘Our Father’ or ‘Dear Father in heaven’ etc.).

You ask why? It was never explained why and nobody questioned it. As far as quoting those scriptures, we only used missals. Maybe if somebody had a bible in their home they read from the gospels. I would have to say the average person was bible illiterate and only knew maybe Genesis and Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

You must be younger than me because the churches in general didn’t start having the parishioners using bibles until maybe the ‘70s and later when there was a religious revival in the country.

i wouldn't put my hand up when we were asked to raise it if we were happy to give £50 from congregation funds to the c.o.

so that he could take his wife out for a meal.

Absolutely correct. Today, what is happening in JW congregations is something they never expected.

Many Witnesses who spent decades in the ministry instead of having decent jobs with benefits, paying into SS, etc. have now reached retirement age totally unprepared! The ‘End’ they had all hoped for and were told would save them from having to plan, has not arrived in time enough to deliver them from the consequences of inaction.

To add insult to the injury, many have left the JW religion (including responsible individuals like myself).. Therefore, there are fewer JWs for elders to approach discreetly with an envelope/sob story asking for money for people there who never wanted to work!

The religion maybe did not foresee all this. Maybe they didn’t care or imagined somebody ELSE was going to care for all these people misled by faulty teachings!

When you think about it, even the most stupidest so-called ‘worldly’ people know they will get old and have to prepare somehow.. So, it’s hard to feel sorry for Witnesses who bought into this frenzy of pioneering decades ago - believing they would never get old and did not need to $ave or prepare!

I agree that they most definitely should have a job to support themselves, like Paul did.. As a person who got knocked and laughed at for working, I feel very strongly about this.

I am going to shoot some holes in the mentality that people in the JW religion are going to ‘give money to those who don’t want to work so they can go knocking on doors’. 🤣 Sorry, but I never believed this. Don’t want to work? Don’t eat.

Likewise, I never gave anything to pioneers who didn’t want to work….I had a full-time job that I refused to quit to ‘pioneer’ and live on the edge. I retired when it was time.

With this latest ‘understanding’ about the average JW no longer needing to turn in reports about ‘field service’ hours, I am ever so Glad I never listened to the religion years ago.

About quiting hours

what i'm thinking: can a jw be happy that the hour rapport quits?

can you show you are happy with it in the kingdom hall?

knowing it was one of the control systems of the local elders and co?.

Your wife is correct. The Witnesses probably did think less of her because she didn’t get those big hours in!.. Now, that requirement vanished like smoke.

I’m Out for over 22 years so I don’t know if the attitude towards non-pioneer or low-hour publishers got better. But, in the late ‘70s and ‘80s it was not nice. Back then it was literally a frenzy to pioneer. If you didn’t pioneer, what could possibly be wrong with you?.. Well, I worked full-time and you wouldn’t believe the amount of garbage and remarks I heard. I was an outcast in the hall with few ‘friends’ to talk to.

In time I ‘Faded’ then Retired.. After hearing this latest news yesterday, I’m Super-glad I stuck to my guns years ago and held onto that job until the end.👍🏻

I have nothing but contempt for this worthless religion.

So, now that this news about No more Field Service hours reports is sinking in and the shock possibly wearing off - I wonder what the rank & file Witnesses are thinking?

I wonder about those older JWs who made sacrifices and pioneered their whole lives??? Instead, many have reached senior years unprepared financially for retirement!!!

Boy, if I had done this I would feel a sucker punch like somebody blew my insides out! I’m just so Glad now I never listened to this damn religion years ago!!!

I feel it’s probably not only because hours are at ‘disappointingly low levels’…but because they have been exaggerated or just plain lied about for years and years!

So, it would make perfect sense for the religion to tell people to just tick a box that says ‘Active’. They just dispensed with a charade.

sometimes things don't come across the way the speaker intended.. years ago there was an ad by the whitegoods company fisher and paykel.

they showed them going to great lengths to get customer feedback on what was important to them.

one customer said that she wanted it to be easy to get her appliances serviced when they broke down.

I remember hearing that expression ‘your brain being washed clean’ from a JW who I was once friendly with decades ago.

The Witness religion is so full of quips, witty sayings, urban legends and fallacies that make the rounds! They’re so proud of themselves. In the latter part of my still being in (late ‘90s or 2000) I heard a saying that seems to have made the rounds and I first heard an elder say it:.. “Some of us are going to get to the new system the underground way.” ..Obviously referring to JWs passing away.

I was angry when I heard it but didn’t say anything. It seemed it was a ‘hint’ at an upcoming changing of yet another belief!!.. The only way I can think of for the widespread use of these sayings being used from coast to coast is that they must be repeated by traveling COs (maybe deliberately) in talks.. Is a witty saying like this supposed to cushion the blow for all the older JWs waiting patiently for the new system?? I doubt it.

Jehovah's Witnesses and Tattoos

i was wondering about the jw attitude towards getting tattoos.. redditors suggest that the only jws who have them would have got them before they were baptised.. jw.org gives a meally-mouthed "true christians wouldn't" response.. but no-one (that i've seen so far) answers the question i'm actually asking: is getting a tattoo after being baptised a disfellowshipping offence?.

if not disfellowshipable, how would a typical jw congregation treat someone who got a tattoo after baptism?

would they really treat it like it is a conscience issue?.

Yes, I walked away (‘Faded’) but I didn’t call attention to myself. Besides, JWs don’t usually chase after anybody (especially women) unless they were considered a material ‘asset’.. In other words, you had to be somebody who did favors for the Users and/or gave people thing$.👎

EASY PROMPT:

Even though I’m Out, I don’t doubt what you say. It has probably come down to people looking for prominence in the religion. So, they will ‘overlook’ some things, such as somebody’s tattoo(s), as long as people fawn over them.
