According to that article, I suppose I wasn’t ‘marriage material’ back in the day. Maybe never was.🤣 Not that there were many attractive eligible men in the ‘truth’.. All the good ones were taken.. But, that’s besides the point: I wasn’t raised in the religion, I wasn’t a pioneer and I worked!

Even if I excelled at practical knowledge and managing money, they wouldn’t have considered me ‘theocratic’ enough because I’m too ‘independent’.👍🏻 Please note that I consider these expressions to be hilarious.. When I hear the term ‘Mature Christian’ I want to barf.

Anyway, it was just interesting to look back at the past.

Looking for those with legal expertise to work for free

an announcement to all congregations those with legal experience please come and work for free to cover up child abusers.. i mean what else would it be for?.

the cheek of it.. so the direction was always don’t go for advanced education and careers but now they are looking for such ones to give if their time and education for free?.

Sorry to come on so strong but I wasn’t directing it at you. This topic makes my blood boil.

While there are those on here who wonder if this for CSA cases, I don’t care what they want the free legal help for. It’s the principle of the thing that the religion unashamedly knocked people who got college/careers.

Worse yet, hateful attitudes and class distinctions were evident in the congregations because of this. The only ‘good JWs’ were in the cleaning or window washing business. If you had college or white collar job that was ‘bad’. These cleaners were partly responsible for the bad attitudes (this is why I don’t feel sorry at the cliche jokes about cleaners that some get offended by).

I saw this and experienced condemnation and not being invited because I wouldn’t quit my job. Even though I’m glad I never caved in to the pressure - I can never forgive the religion for their hypocrisy!

The people you mention also have to earn a living to pay bills, have a roof over their head, put food on the table, right?? Therefore, they can’t be doing things for Free! I am assuming they paid for their own education.

All that schooling and these seemingly intelligent people never learned how to say ‘NO’??? I guess since I was not raised-in it was easier to say ‘No’ and stand up for myself. Forgive me for being annoyed to even read about this.

After a doing a favor once, the next time should be a ‘No’. Maybe they should all go back and take some self-assertiveness courses and practice saying ‘No’ in front of a mirror.

I understand your sarcasm!

I feel this is also akin to JWs criticizing a person with a job/career but yet imagining that same person should give a$$istance to people in the religion who never worked!!

This is what I encountered. When I attempted to explain it to a JW I was friendly with in the early years - she responded with anger!.. I just cannot get over the wrong attitude of entitlement coupled with selective memory loss that too many Witnesses have.

no private home book studies.

no more "essential" spiritual food meals 5x a week.

Yes, I’m sure the ‘sheeple’ ‘still kickin’ with retirement plans are looking very good in the ‘club’ now! The problem is:.. who wants to be a sitting duck targeted to give money to people there who never worked??

I know I wouldn’t be. This is partly why I wouldn’t set foot in a congregation now… It’s not just that JWs didn’t want to work (many people don’t want to work).. The SIN was engendering hateful attitudes and class distinctions in the congregations.

I don’t know who started this, but this is what the religion ended up being and this was a total turn-off to me. This was in addition to them trying to use tactics to get me to quit my full-time job to do housecleaning/full-time ministry. I wouldn’t have retired if I listened to them!

I wonder if no longer needing to turn in a FS report will have a negative effect overall?

I think this change might have disappointed many Witnesses who might not readily admit it.. I mean this is how they defined themselves. They pioneered. I worked.. If I were them I’d be more than annoyed if I spent many years getting all those hours of FS in.. Now, the sheeples there are told they don’t need to.

The change has to sink in mentally at first. After that, JWs have to adapt their behavior and habits, etc. I think it’s too early to know for certain what the end result of this will be, but it will be interesting.

Son out?

our son joined the wts 20 years ago.

we, his parents and siblings are not jws.

he is now 41. he knew we were "opposers" from the beginning, and so we were pretty much shunned by him.

Congratulations on getting your family member back.

If it were me, I would have a big Holiday party and invite a lot of people (neighbors and relatives) so he would not be the focus of anybody’s attention - like say at a dinner. He would just be a ‘guest’. (Of course, I would give certain people a heads-up who knew about him not to mention any religion and to act normally.) I would think somebody exiting a stifling religion that tried to limit his association would be starved to be around people who are not judging him and just observe how normal people act.. Let him mix and mingle and get a little holiday spirit. That’s how I would do it. Just an idea.

This is what happens when men who live in a secluded/cloistered environment and don’t know anything - try to give advice to people who have to function in the real world.

I never paid any mind to anything they said and let it go in one ear and out the other!

I didn’t read the actual article, only what you posted.

I hope the ‘skills’ needed to support a wife include a trade and/or well-paying job! He has to be serious about this. They mention ‘employment’ so maybe they are inching closer to reality about this.

Without this, a guy can’t even hope to support himself - much less a wife and any children that may follow.

Retirement savings

i know it changed.

pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".

Yes, I totally agree with you and I never listened to a word the religion said - especially seeing all those older JWs collecting their pensions..The poverty being pushed wasn’t for them!

I followed my gut and did what was best for me and held onto that job they all hated me for!

By the way, there is no more any such thing as ‘cheap rental accommodations’. Rents are high. Some people were lucky and hit it right and were able to buy. But, the fact is: anybody who didn’t get a decent job is unable to do either.

It is near impossible to live in the world if somebody was in full-time ministry for forty years, maybe working part-time and living in a fantasy inside their head.. The idea being Armageddon would surely come and save them from not preparing for their old age - that they were told they’d never see!
