I never really did like preaching - even when I believed most of it. I felt it was unnatural in some way. Because I wasn't really sold on it all I guess this was part of the reason I didn't excel in the f.s. I also didn't like getting into debates when I met a real bible expert at the door!! But now I am glad to be free of this.

i have realized lately that i am far less "preachy" than i used to be and as a result, i do not feel as far up my own backside as i used to.. i think my ego is finally, finally, becoming easier to whip and control.
i grew tired of hearing my own voice.. do you feel this way?.

Brothers In Good Standing
by Englishman ini heard today that brothers who volunteered at assemblies were only accepted on the proviso that they were "brothers in good standing".
i also heard that anyone reproved or df'd might have to wait for 3 to 5 years before being allowed to clean the gent's loos as a volunteer.. is that right?
what other things are held back from folk who aren't quite up to the mark?.

How about sisters in good standing. This brings back memories. When you are "bad association" or people in the hall don't quite know how to categorize you they tend to be afraid to get close. What you will be shown is "agape love". Has anybody here been the recipient of agape love? Well, it is kind of like when somebody slides food to the lion in the zoo through the special opening and then backs off. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy!! Not!! This always made me crack up. Who needs their agape love? I would rather have outright hatred. At least it would be more honest.

Is there a slowdown in congregation get togethers?
by truthseeker ini was just reading thelisteners post from an earlier thread, and it got me thinking just how little time dubs have to associate togther.. it seems to be more and more the fact, that the only time dubs see each other to "associate" - if you can even call it that - is at meetings and conventions.. even at conventions though, the dubs are told not to go outside for lunch, regardless of whether it is a nice day of not.
(note, this may not be true at all conventions).
where is a jehovah's witness supposed to get this period of refreshment so he can do more?

I have noticed over the years that these get-togethers have all but vanished. But, as some of you have pointed out, there are some (usually ones with money) who do get together for vacations, cruises, etc. These gatherings usually happen in secrecy and you hear about them when they are past.
The saddest part about all this is that they profess to be Christians who will be there for each other when persecution and difficult times start. How in the world could you expect them to "be there for you" when they don't bother with you now? It is highly unlikely that they will rise to the occasion during difficult times when they are all running and covering their rear-ends now. Makes you sick.

Mental Migets
by mrsjones5 inyesterday, while i was folding and getting ready my papers for my saturday paper route, i was in the jw chatroom on yahoo.
there were quite a few jws there (which has become an unsual thing - most diehard jw chatters have gone to paltalk where the control over a chatroom is more rigid) and i engaged a couple of these jws.
i asked my usual stumper "is there any historical proof for the year 607 b.c.e.?

To you (and us) they are mental midgets! To themselves they are spiritual giants! This closed-mindedness about them always irked me. I always wondered whey they were so afraid of other religious publications and why any question or dissent on the part of other JWs could not be tolerated. The reason must be, quite simply, that their belief system is so flimsy that the slightest doubt, question or whatever would shake it to the core. They can't have that now, can they.

There are many who feel the church is worse. But you have to realize it has been around for many centuries as opposed to a little over a century for the other one. (Just think what damage THEY could do if they were around for that long - perish the thought!!!)

Unfortunately, they take the demon thing too far and get crazy and make accusations against people. It brings to mind what must have gone on during the time of the Salem witch trials where neighbor was accusing neighbor! Some sisters around my way went overboard about this some years back.

by minimus init's refreshing to know that we can say negative things about what we know is wrong about the society, governing body, local elders, the "brotherhood", in general------and not get censured or punished for it......i'll start.------- the organization is run more like the scribes and pharisees than jesus and his disciples.
christ reached out to everyone.
the scribes and pharisees treated everyone else like they were inferior, "worldly", not good enough.

One of the biggest things that really got me was the lack of love, gossiping, stuck up attitudes plus shunning (which I suppose is their right). But what would happen if their so-called spiritual friends were not around and they were in some kind of trouble and needed help? Would they expect you to help them if you were one of the ones they shunned? You bet they would!! They think you are somehow going rise to the occasion and help them. They expect to benefit from a bogus brotherhood when it suits them - even when they themselves do not act in a Christian manner!

When that bombshell "adjustment" about the generation came ten years ago we were all shocked. Oh, nobody left right away. But you should see our hall now: there are like half the people gone. They didn't all move away or die either. So it must have had an effect - like a delayed reaction. With regard to their old things not being in print anymore - he very old stuff is no longer in print but there is enough of the newer stuff (bound volumes) that one can read up on to see the changes over the years.

so during all this time did you ever see happy person or a family or were you ever truly happy there, even for a brief period of time?

If I did it was usually a couple in love. Other than that I would have to answer no generally speaking. Some of the people I saw were always watching their back and trying to "do more" so I would not consider them happy. Some were somewhat paranoid and others were concerned about their "image". Because we all know they have to appear happy.
