  I understand your view of what you see as overly armed police even in so-called affluent areas.

  In the years following 9/11 when I saw overly armed police and military in train stations, I knew they weren’t there to protect me!.. What you want (and what everybody would like) are police who don’t see the population as their enemies. But, unfortunately, it isn’t like that.

  I remembered back during hurricane Katrina down in Louisiana...I particularly remember when a helicopter wanted to land and help..well some mindless idiots started shooting at it!!! Naturally, the helicopter took off and nobody returned for a few days. Meanwhile, there was outcry by the black community ‘that nobody cared’ and ‘Bush hates black people’, etc. Well, what would have happened if somebody succeeded in killing the helicopter pilots and emergency personnel (on TV no less)??? Just HOW would this have looked to the world?

  I’m sure they retreated because they had to consider what the HELL they were dealing with on the ground!..They did return a few days later...The point is that the population is not ‘friendly’. It is unpredictable. Now, with other elements in the country and disgruntled people of every sort - that you have the police force you are seeing.

  Sad to say but very true. I don’t have a weapon myself- but would never criticize anybody here who is armed to the teeth and knows their stuff. Surely they would only use it in the most dire circumstances. Let’s hope things don’t further deteriorate here in the USA.

  Again, I wish these people in other countries would stop comparing themselves to the USA and making self-righteous comparisons about themselves.

  They do NOT have the same problems or population as we do here - even those of them who think they live in a ‘bad’ area where they are..I have to laugh at them. They would positively sh#t if they did. There is also the mentality among some of these people (at a distance sitting in their armchair watching TV) that people in the USA shouldn’t defend themselves!

  Well, anybody who believes this can choose to be an unarmed human sacrifice if they like..Go right ahead! They would be a trampled and bloody victim on the ground like some horrible videos I have seen that will NEVER be covered by the worthless leftist media.

  RESOLUTE BANDICOOT & PHOENIXRISING:

  I can understand peaceful demonstrations and people being against police brutality - but my opinion of that group is that it seems more like a terrorist group..judging by all the destruction and violence (which will be downplayed and hidden by the liberal media).

  There are many ex-JWs who believe in that group - if you read other forums.

  I really do wish you and people from elsewhere stop bashing the US!

  I have heard every sort of remark over the years from Europeans or others..from condescending remarks about ‘class’ in addition to the current situation. Let’s not forget for one minute that MILLIONS of people in Europe have died because of war, genocide and violence just inside the last century!..Now Europe is a toilet because they have opened the floodgates to immigrants and has terrorism and every social problem imaginable!

  The left-leaning rulers couldn’t care less if their own natural law abiding citizens are killed in violence and social unrest caused by these immigrants. The same leftist attitude prevails in the US where ball-less politicians allow criminals of every sort to do what they want.

  This situation with Floyd has allowed the leftist elements in the country to jump in the fray and cause havoc. Even though there are many engaging in ‘peaceful’ protests (because Nobody should die in police custody- even a no-good criminal) ..these other people have jumped on the bandwagon and making this about another agenda. Meanwhile, they are responsible as far as I am concerned, for inciting ignorant people to violence, looting and destruction, vandalism of every sort even in cemeteries..Now drivers have to worry about bricks being thrown from an overpass onto vehicles. Just mindless mayhem. And this is supposedly about ‘justice’ for one guy??

  As far as guns are concerned: guns do scare me and I don’t like violence. However, what the hell are people supposed to do if the police stand down and don’t protect them?? Do you actually expect them to lay down and die?

  found out he was disfellowshipped, and he was trying to figure out how to make things work.

  i am not a jw, and his family is not supportive of the relationship.

  It may hurt and be the hardest thing you do but stop seeing this person...Everything everybody has told you is true.

  Somebody brought up in the Jehovah’s Witness religion knows nothing else. They are not like normal people who have dealings with everybody, the community, etc. If he wants a relationship with his family - which is normal - they will emotionally blackmail him into coming back to the religion/cult..You don’t understand the emotional entanglement.. He may not inherit money unless he goes back.

  Where does this leave you? Not in a good place I assure you.

  laws have been very quickly created in order to oppress & suppress uk citizens' basic freedoms and rights, while profiteering - thanks to the mantra of "supply & demand" - is allowed to flourish with nothing being done by the government to penalise companies who are more than likely reducing production of ppe in order to inflate their prices.

  (oil companies have done likewise for years) .

  Wow, another bumper crop of bethelites to be dumped!

  This is really the worst possible time for this to happen to anybody.. At least those let go a decade or so ago had actual congregations and halls to go back TO..maybe a job?..Any bethelite looking on back then had to know this could happen to them..Now, the economy is totally shit with this Covid thing.

  The Witnesses that are actually left in the congregations have been hit up for money left and right and I’m not sure they have another cent to be squeezed out of them. I’m sure there will be frantic appeals for anybody to open up their homes to a bethelite!..Imagine the nerve?

  All this is the worst possible scenario and I am very glad I got out of Jehovah’s Witnesses years ago.

  It was very good and he’s honest. It seems he left over principles and not because he was the victim of any serious injustice (or at least I didn’t get that impression).

  I too felt the Witness religion was all-consuming. I confess that I never did ALL the reading. I worked full time and just didn’t have time to do it all and I felt all these assignments were from people not in reality that other people had to work for a living!

  He is also spot on about the control, brainwashing, hypocrisy and also fake friends as phony as fake nails. I found it interesting how they tried to get him to change his mind when he submitted his Disassociation letter. (They don’t want to lose a man if they can help it.).. But, I’m happy for him he is out - and, as he says: “he got his life back”. I remember the feeling!

  I am a twenty-year ‘Fader’.

  When 9/11 happened, many inactive Witnesses went running back to the meetings. Not me though. I was in the early stages of ‘fading’ and just starting to feel somewhat normal like I felt before I made the mistake of getting involved with the JW religion. No way was I going back to that mental abuse.

  Here we are now twenty years later in a world filled with different crises. I don’t feel compelled in the slightest to be around the Witnesses. You’re going to have to do a lot of research and learning about this religion so that you are not gripped with fear.
