I have come to the conclusion that a lot of JWs don't care if the end is near.

i was in the cult for years about 40. fourth gen born in cult member or for me ex cult member.

i have seen so many cult members who don't seem to really care if the end is near or not.

they are much more concerned with the idea that this is their social network and they need and or want it just the way it is.

Regarding the 1975 comment mentioned by that poster: it’s shocking.

I wondered if the deceased may have done something extreme like sell his house and possessions and lived off the proceeds like some JWs did!..Then when 1975 came and went and everybody heard ‘crickets’..he had to start all over again possibly struggling for the rest of his life(?) This is what I got out of that remark.

Well…history is apparently repeating itself to some degree because some JWs have done similar foolish things. More financial suicide. Again, selling homes and living off the proceeds, quitting jobs before retirement age to go where the ‘need is greater’ and running out of money and being OVER age sixty..in a bad economic world climate.. and with Covid no less! Who would want to be anywhere around these people?

FEDUPJW & OVERRATED:

It’s not just the fact that these particular people never really wanted to be part of the workforce and are truly deadbeats, but they criticized responsible people in congregations who had careers or full-time jobs!

I even remember some sister telling me she would ‘rather die than do what I did’. Meanwhile, I had a clean office job.

I accept the fact that these people never approved of me and chose to exclude me from their silly gatherings..But, I will NOT now accept any of them coming up to me asking for money..They’d be told to get lost or go ask their spiritual friends..This asking for money everywhere now is very annoying but it’s intolerable coming from Witnesses because of their hatred of secular work.

As far as the tradition that won’t die (somebody coming around with an envelope looking for $$ for JWs who barely worked):..I can’t tell other people what to do but I surely won’t tolerate this…In fact, I would certainly never go anywhere nowadays where I would be perceived as a target for anything!

OVERRATED:

Yes, you are so right. I hate to sound callous but I was treated so badly. Thankfully, I had the strength of character to stick to my guns and hold onto that job they all hated me for and am Retired.

I also wouldn’t want any of these JW ‘spiritual superstars’ coming up to me for a handout! If I knew of available jobs I would tell them and wish them Good Luck earning a living, which is what they should be doing…When you say where was the ‘creator’ to help them:..we all know the religion gives nothing. And I am angry at the fallacy that is STILL believed or half-believed (even by people on the forum)..that JWs who never wanted to work and are needy as a result are going to get an envelope stuffed with cash! How? Some chump goes around with an envelope cornering unwilling people to contribute money.

I would refuse them rudely which is why I’m Glad to not be in the religion anymore because this is what’s going on there.

Yes, and I’m GLAD I’m nowhere near any of these pioneers who never wanted to work!

When the shit finally hits the fan for these particular JWs (and it has for many by now)..anybody within earshot or arms-length will be targeted to give money or ‘help’ them out because they will be in panic mode. Any responsible people still left in the congregations are going to be hit up for money time after time like they were ATM machines.

Even if I didn’t disagree with many teachings within the JW religion, this situation with all the deadbeats there in and of itself would be a reason I would stay the hell away!

I agree with you that the JWs who are still in are ‘true believers’.

The ones I know also have something else in common:..they are ones who never got a decent job or career and instead pioneered, lived on the edge or got low paying jobs that were close by so they wouldn’t miss meetings. Now these people are over sixty and struggling and complaining about how bad everything is..One gets monetary assistance from non-JW relatives.

Naturally, these people would be wishing for the end of the ‘system’.

TRUTHBKNOWN:

I also believe that JWs who are materially well-off and prospering are not eager to see the End of the system and just want to live out their lives. IMO, No sensible person is really eager to suffer through any ‘great tribulation’!

a friend says the wt gives a substantial sum to retiring cos. he says one bought land and built near him, a desirable rural area.

i think it must have been saved green handshake money or inherited.. btw this man also thinks the gb are the smartest men alive..

It’s not quite the same. A CO is usually pushing poverty and knocking people with full-time jobs like I had back in the day and making remarks like ‘materialistic’ or ‘unspiritual’. Full blown hypocrisy.

That’s why I don’t want to know about anybody who is struggling now who refused to work at a decent job or career back then! Instead, they fell for the bull about full time ministry and how spiritual they were.🙄

It’s nice to know as you say that there are ‘millions’ of JWs saving for their retirement! I highly approve. They won’t have to be going around scrounging for money when retirement time comes. Thankfully, I did not listen to the religion or I would not be retired today!!! I can NEVER forget this and the hateful attitudes engendered in the congregation. Anybody who criticized or labeled me as ‘unspiritual’ because I worked full-time had better go track down their ‘spiritual’ friends for money. I’m not interested in their sob-stories.

this magazine says it all!.

and many of the older jws believed at one point in their life that they would make it through the great tribulation and into the 1000 year reign of christ without dying.

which is why so many jws stayed in so long.. is the main reason why jws ignore all the child abuse, the end of door to door service, and the closing of kingdom hall for almost two years----because they still believe they will not die?.

You might have a point about why these older JWs stick with the religion. They want their ‘everlasting life’.

I don’t know if I ever Truly believed this. Maybe it was a nice mental exercise but that’s about it.

When I ‘Faded’ from the JW religion about twenty years ago, one of the first things I did was rid my mind of this ‘paradise earth and no dying’ teaching. I needed to do this because I felt this was a cruel trick to play on my mind. In no time it was purged from my mind and I wondered how much I ever believed it in the first place.

Oh, I don’t know about that. I don’t think this thread removes credibility from ex-JW sites.

Just because something isn’t known doesn’t mean it can’t exist (secretly) in some form. In addition, it’s long been rumored that COs got gift$ from admiring people in congregations.🙄

My problem is with the whole “people in the religion are going to be taken care of” BS. This is a grossly deceptive urban legend and a sad joke. The religion is not known to give anything. So, the REAL scenario is somebody goes around with an envelope cornering individuals in congregations for money..I had this happen years ago.. I’m glad I’m Out because as somebody who was viewed as an outcast for my full-time job, my answer would now be ‘No’ to these hypocrites.

OVERRATED:

When you talk about the ‘social ladder’ 🙄 and the ‘soft shunning’ that was definitely a reality there. The JW religion is just filled with judgment and hateful attitudes. These attitudes must come from the top down!

I think of what I went through because I worked at a full-time job at the time. Why, you would think I had a scarlet ‘A’ embroidered on the front of my clothing or that I had committed some crime! I remember telling a former ‘friend’ in the religion that because I was so criticized for my job I would never tolerate anybody coming up to me looking for money - and that they better Go ask somebody ELSE!! She didn’t like hearing that but too bad!

Good thing I was a loner who had contact with people outside. I was glad I wasn’t raised in the religion and it made it easier to ‘Fade’..They really Do push people out (whether that was their real intention or not)..but I am glad I’m Out many years.

LOST IN THE FOG:

Just host a party sometime and watch the people as they mingle. After fifteen minutes you will see little groups assemble and talk among themselves. Can’t help it.

I definitely saw cliques in the JW congregation. I believe the Witness religion lends itself to cliques in the first place because of all the labels they have. And they are just a bit nastier than ‘worldly’ cliques with their hateful gossip.

I was a single working woman and I was in a clique all by myself. Luckily, I’m a loner. I didn’t really need anybody there..People from other cliques barely said hello. But, so what? I accepted this as normal and I have been Out so many years that this means nothing now.
