But, can somebody who NEVER worked still collect anything? That’s my question.
I would be surprised if they did.
a lot of my ex fellow servants must be now in their seventies, what can you do?.
no children no money no home.
it is so sad.. so many decided not to have children as the end was right around the corner and that was decades ago.

MIKEJW:
You're in the UK, right? When you say special pioneers get an ‘old age state pension’, is this even if they did NOT work?? Am I not understanding you correctly? Please clarify.
If this were right, that’s news to me!!!
Here in the USA, somebody absolutely needs to work in order to get Social Security and even then they have to work full-time for several decades in order to get a decent monthly amount! ..A lot of Witnesses have spotty work records with part-time jobs so they could be in the ministry. Many wouldn’t be caught dead in a full-time job. When the time comes later - they find out much to their disappointment they won’t get much from SS (like $800).
It’s too bad somebody wise (non-JW) didn’t inform them of these life facts when they were younger!

MIKEJW:
Yes, this is very sad and I wish the general public knew more about this.
This is my favorite topic to bash and I have commented on numerous threads about it. Why? I personally was criticized, panned, gossiped about, trashed and shunned because I had a full-time job that I refused to quit back in the day to appease these hypocrites.
Meanwhile, all the older people led cushy lives collecting THEIR pensions since THEY were once in the workforce. But, yet poverty was pushed for baby boomers(?) Luckily for me I wasn’t buying it and I’m sorry for anybody who did. (Too bad the older busybodies in the congregation who helped push poverty on younger people aren’t alive today to help JWs they grossly misled.)
I wisely held onto my job until Retirement. What difference does it make now what they thought about me back then? 🤣
And certainly what difference does it make now to poor JWs and pioneers who got invited to special gatherings back then I was excluded from? They were patted on the back and told how ‘spiritual’ they were. Well, this means nothing now and isn’t going to pay their bills.

HIDDLESWIFE:
The only thing I think the religion is interested in is what the actual number of JWs are because so many ‘faded’ during the 2 year pandemic. This is why they want in-person meetings and are discouraging Zoom. Also, people showing up in person are more likely to put $ in the contribution boxes.
As far as door-to-door service: this is the religion’s claim to fame. They want to get back to ‘normal’.
The only people not happy about all this are many older JWs who were gleefully wishing and hoping that the Covid pandemic meant this was the End.. I had a JW friend who was sounding like the wicked witch..
I guess too many of them are suffering financially because they followed the dictates of the religion and didn’t prepare properly (if at all) for retirement..They were desperately hoping Armageddon would be here.. Never mind that a whole world would die. As long as they don’t have to deal…
it’s a shame the gov body did a big u turn on vaccines .
if they continue with the rule that only fully vaxed can go back to the hall then i could have stayed on zoom.
but the term fully vaxed is a moving target, if it’s been like six months since your last shot you are just the same as those of us who are unvaxed .
HOWTHEBIBLEWASCREATED:
Please STOP calling people who don’t want the Covid vaccine anti vaxxers. It is not the same thing so STOP conflating the two issues.
Yes, your parents were Anti Vaxxers (and I’m sorry) for depriving you of your childhood vaccines. But, people who just don’t want the Covid shot are NOT necessarily ‘anti vaxxers’. I HAD all my childhood shots!
I am tired of this ignorance of the general public conflating the two things!!!

SMILES:
Wow, I don’t envy the remaining JWs still in the religion.
If it’s one thing I don’t miss and glad to never do it again, it’s the house-to-house ministry. I always hated it but what I particularly hated were car groups and being stuck in close quarters with people. But, at least when I did it years ago, the people in the congregation were ‘normal’.
I am past the point now of even wanting to be introduced to the crazy people who joined the religion in recent decades. Nope. Not interested.
Also, does anybody think it’s even wise to be in car groups NOW with all these diseases being talked about?

WING COMMANDER:
I agree with your post. The Witness religion SHOULD be providing the things you mentioned (soup kitchens, pantries etc. etc.) if it considers itself a charity, in my opinion.
This is all the more crucial at this time! So many JWs are in a bad predicament and needy today ironically because they followed the dictates of the religion to be out in the full-time ministry and were told not to bother worrying about having careers or retirement plans because ‘Armageddon’ was coming. I was there and remember it well.
It is a shame that needy JWs have to go to the churches of Christendom who DO provide these soup kitchens.
our family was always a topic on a local needs talk.
but it was funny when the brothers needed money they would come with their hands out.
this is when we lived in the states.
LEE MARSH:
I remember those special needs talks, especially about dress.
I always felt they were instigated by frumpy older women and some elders’ wives who had an issue about attractive stylishly dressed women in the hall. If a woman had any kind of a decent figure (nice legs and/or an ample bust) she had to take special pains to hide things lest she be viewed as immodest. She might not even be trying to look sexy.
It was very unfair. Women with dowdy figures or no shape could dress any way they wanted and not be accused of looking a certain way. But, yet the woman with the nice figure had to try harder! 🙄
we got the inevitable letter today.. meet, associate and "encourage" in person unless sick or infirm.
also dress up for zoom if you must use it.
locally over half are on zoom, 3/4 no picture.
I’m not surprised they are urging for in-person attendance!
After two years of a pandemic with people being home on Zoom and people going their own way (some born-ins free of the oppressive meetings for the first time in their lives), the religion realizes it has lost some people. The Question is: how many? The Only way they are ever going to get a feel of how many consider themselves to STILL be JWs is to show up in person! Anybody who hates the damn place is not going to show up.
There is also the question of contributions and how some people are more inclined to give if they show up in person. Just my opinion.
so did anyone else have the misfortune of listening to sanderson’s talk corresponding to the saturday morning convention program?.
full title is “young people - choose a path that leads to peace!”.
the basic idea is, hey you teenagers, you ought to be pioneers, wt construction workers, and/or bethelites.. i tried to put myself back in time an embarrassing number of decades…if i were in this talk’s target audience, how would i respond?.
DIOGENESISTER:
Thank you. I’m flattered but I’m not a public person.
I also realize my type of story is less interesting than the experiences of the others you mentioned. I do agree that it is important because the general public may not be aware that this goes on in the Witness religion. There are probably millions of JWs as we speak who are suffering because they followed the bad advice that I ignored. Of course, people might say “nobody forced anybody”, but they don’t understand the culture of the JWs with shunning and so on. But, this only applies to adults. What about minor children under their parents’ rule? They are helpless.
Being reminded of this makes me grateful I wasn’t raised a JW and that I wasn’t a bigger fool than what I already was! I just wasted time but at least I was in the workforce then.
Hopefully, nowadays at least, there will be far fewer JWs who fall for this. We have this and other forums. Younger people are more sophisticated today and also if they look around their congregations they can discreetly check out some of these older Witnesses who listened to all the silly talk! That might tell them all they need to know.
