I once had an elder admit to me that college educated brothers are harder to counsel.

So, from the get-go, this was all about keeping people in line. All the other bullshit about meeting bad associations and taking courses which will lessen people’s respect for the bible was just icing on the cake.

Never mind that people are forced to get a degree nowadays or they can’t get a job.

The religion doesn’t care if people can’t put food on the table or a roof over their head. Just as long as they are acceptably ignorant enough that they won’t ‘speak up’ about anything and remain passive while they are sitting there in the congregation.

My main reason for leaving was the 1995 Generation teaching. When that happened it was truly over.

The other ‘absurdities’ and the way I was treated in general just added to the whole pile of rubbish.

I think these are produced to give the rank & file Witnesses something to think and fantasize about. After all, many are disappointed that Covid wasn’t the End.

Yes, they used makeup in bible times as quoted in the scripture by ENOUGHIS-ENOUGH. This is not a bad scriptural reference and probably all the women then wore this to some degree. You even see this in some parts of the world now where women wear kohl.

Every now and then, some individuals make it sound like women with makeup are the downfall of the world.🙄 Depending on how adamant and zealous they are, it can sound unbalanced. I have to wonder what’s going on inside their heads and what ‘painted lady’ ruined their life. I’m surprised they aren’t picketing outside of drugstore chains and makeup and beauty supply shops.

I don’t really come on the forum to see political posts, but I understand there should be a section where people can post political commentary.

I’ve been on the forum for years and I have to say the posts and threads with Trump Derangement Syndrome in the past were far more plentiful than the pro-Trump ones. Certain posters couldn’t post anymore which is good because they couldn’t resist slipping their TDS shit into anything and everything!

Even after the man left and with another president in office - people with TDS just couldn’t give it a rest..as we are now seeing. I’m sorry that you or anybody feels uncomfortable because some people have opposing views!

The problem of questioning or the lack of politeness

a forum is a place where people should be able to talk to each other, to question, to have meaningful interactions with others in a polite and educated way, to contribute for the growth of one another.

it seems that, here, there are some people who think that the others know nothing.

they have all the facts, all the truth and have the disrespectful attitude of ignoring concrete and respectful questions.

Why would you need to leave the forum just because a certain poster will not agree with you? Can’t you post on other topics (non-scriptural) or do they not interest you?

I confess that when I see these long-running threads (including massive cut & paste) 🙄 arguing about a particular scripture I don’t read them and never will. It’s hopeless. No offense to whatever zealot.. You do realize that theologians have been arguing about these things for centuries.

As for any JW who insists on believing and defending the beliefs of the religion no matter what anybody says, nothing you can do about it. Just move on.

No pension no preparation for retirement

a lot of my ex fellow servants must be now in their seventies, what can you do?.

no children no money no home.

it is so sad.. so many decided not to have children as the end was right around the corner and that was decades ago.

I agree, but unlike most people on here I was not born-in or raised in the Witness religion. I came in as a young working adult in the U.S.

The idea that I would be a deadbeat was foreign to me. Sadly, this mentality runs through the culture of the religion like threads in a fabric.

Up until now, many JWs who were born-in were not in reality about the world. (Not all, to be fair.) The worst of them have poor life skills and have an infantile view. They can’t manage money and imagine it grows on trees. Some are ignorant and don’t know how to live economically - eating out instead of cooking at home. Some may think they are owed charity by more responsible people in the hall.

Although back when I was in - my congregation(s) weren’t too bad and I was surrounded for the most part by comfortable suburban homeowners especially in the early days. No panhandlers then..It was later on I saw more deadbeat types.

Somebody like myself raised outside the religion wasn’t looking for somebody else to ‘take care of me’. That’s what getting a decent job and saving for the future was all about. I’m sorry the culture of Witnesses teaches otherwise. That’s TOO bad about them.

Jehovah`s Witness Elders who were Business men in The Congregations I Attended.

a number of topics have covered work experiences by members who have encountered crticism for having a full time job .in the last few congregations i had attended this was never an issue as elders had businesses they owned and employed brothers and sisters .. while i personally never worked for a jw, both my young sons did at one time or another and my wife did also .i have always worked full time in secular employment and have never been criticised for doing so .and to my knowledge nobody else ever had that experience.. in the first cong.i attended an po as they were called at the time was an insurance agent and his bro.

was an assistant po also worked with the same ins,agency.. other congs,i attended one elder was an owner of a cabinet making firm while about 3 other different elders were self employed builders who ran their own business and employed others to work for them .. at the same time a couple of ms servants had their own plastering business going on supporting these elders business.. so i`m just wondering whether this is just depending on where you are from in the world and what time period we are talking about.. the time i`m talking about was in the sixties and seventies and the area was in s.e.

I’m glad you told your children that and they turned out well.

I honestly don’t know how any Witness can live with themselves if they pushed poverty on gullible younger people and they saw those same people struggling years later. I honestly think they have a moral obligation to help them in some way.

But, that’s just my opinion. I am certainly glad I never said such stupid things to anybody. If anything, I pulled younger JWs aside and told them they better financially plan for their future.

Any so-called ‘rich’ elder who pushes poverty and tells any gullible younger person to ‘keep their eye simple’ deserves to rot.

I am surprised they don’t have angry older poor people people tracking them down asking for money after being misled.

This is probably my biggest beef with the religion: them selectively pushing poverty on a certain segment of the congregation - mostly younger and mainly women. I am sorry this is still happening.

I was directly targeted back then and will never forget it.. Thankfully, I never paid any heed to these #&%ing hypocrites.

You were not the only one in the Witness religion who went to school and took night classes on the QT. I heard similar stories about those going in for nursing or others taking courses needed for their jobs. It was a deep dark secret. How stupid.

I remember at some point when I was taking a class for something and some ignoramus older brother said humorously: “what do you want to be a doctor?” 🙄 I was bothered by criticism by people with a secure cushy life because maybe they were close to retirement having ALREADY earned their living.. They just didn’t give a shit or it never entered their mind that some younger person had to make certain about their financial situation.

My hat is off to anybody like me who resisted stupid talk and criticism by fools and hypocrites - and who went and got that degree or certificate or stayed on that job until the end. Nobody is going to pay your bills.

If anybody is suffering now because they caved in to peer pressure and never had that decent job - unfortunately nobody in the religion feels any accountability about this!
