Yes, the JW religion is a master of guilt trips.

How else could they have persuaded so many people to give up decent jobs/careers to do unpaid full-time ministry for decades? This was a combination of guilt-tripping and fear mongering about Armageddon. So many Witnesses reached retirement age they never expected to see - and they are unprepared.

I cringe when I think of what could have happened if I listened.. Yes, I felt guilty at the time but the guilt was overridden by my practical fear and also seeing older JWs collecting their pensions! Thank God I wasn’t raised a JW!

They also used guilt tripping in other ways in the congregation - trying to get sisters to do favors for Users. Thankfully, I had a full-time job and wasn’t available. I would have refused anyway. Besides, they can never be forgiven for all the lies and deception!👎

I’m certainly immune now to anybody’s guilt trips.

i have heard from a few ppimis and several pimos that the attendants who are stationedly-assigned to the front entrances of the borgvenues (cahs and other arenas) have been checking to see if any persons (members and non-member visitors) have badges.

on the other hand, if these persons don't have one, this is what i was told that these dubs do this: corral around the non-badge-wearing individual and interrogate he/she/them plus questioning them, "why are you here?!".

also, even if that person or persons have an invitation plus showed it to these dubs, these toy cops still do that procedure.

It was like when somebody is followed around a store because they might be a potential shoplifter.🙄 They are not even there to assist you.. You’re being watched to see what you ‘might’ do. It’s pathetic and I laugh about it now.

I wonder if the arrogant elder you mentioned is still around. If so, I wonder what he thinks about the JW religion now?

So many people of all ages have left. They can’t even get younger people to stay.. I remember years ago when someone was disfellowshipped and would try to come back and be reinstated - only to be rejected and told they had to wait.

I wonder if they are so eager to reject people now? It seems these elders were on their high horse back then and imagined they could be ‘choosy’. If they really didn’t like somebody they would knock them down. Now, people are leaving left and right.

Do they imagine it’s like the old days where they expected somebody to crawl on their belly begging to be ‘allowed’ to come back? 🤣🤣

Yeah that’s true about the denim, but this was a summer convention so I didn’t think it mattered that much.🙄

With all the paranoia going on in venues nowadays, somebody might need to be afraid of being tackled to the ground!🤣 So much for being Welcomed!

It does seem like a bit much. They are all paranoid because of what happened in Hamburg, Germany in addition to other incidents elsewhere.

Years ago, some moron followed me around at a summer convention because I was wearing a denim outfit. So, if a nice denim outfit was enough to put some woman on some idiot’s radar, how much more so would the recent tragic events make them act?

It’s interesting as you pointed out that JWs aren’t seen by some city Chambers of Commerce as desirable anymore as they don’t bring profitable tourism, don’t eat out much and when they do are notoriously poor tippers and so on.. And this is probably some years back when the economy was better. Now, you can forget it. There are too many ‘needy’ in the religion because of following the religion’s teachings of no college/no careers - plus unprepared Baby Boomers hitting retirement age.👎 All the chickens have come home to roost. Certainly these JWs are not eating out!

I remember the days when I was in of older JWs with affluent lives who went out to eat after a convention and everybody had a feast. Times have changed.

Yes, but I think there was another pressing reason they pushed for in-person attendance: they simply had to know just how many JWs still believe in the religion after the 2+yr absence.

As we read from the poor attendance that has been reported everywhere, it’s bad news. While it is possible that everybody who didn’t show up isn’t necessarily ‘out’, what it does mean is that the pandemic absence has changed JWs somehow.

That could mean many things: ..some don’t believe all the meetings and assemblies are necessary; they don’t want to spend time and money going there (getting an outfit/wear and tear and gas money on cars); some don’t want to expose themselves to germs; many are old and just don’t feel well and we all know that assemblies are an endurance test even for younger healthy people; maybe there is less tolerance for people in general, etc.

Maybe many JWs just hanging on have grown weary of the religion (even without learning negative things about it). They like Zoom because it took a heavy load off them. If Zoom gets taken away or issues made about people’s non-attendance in person, some might rip off the band aid and finally say ‘No more’.

this comment was made on reddit, perhaps protesting is starting to get the witnesses' attention.. it amazed me how many jehovah's witnesses exiting the convention were reading the protester's signs.

some of the witnesses were taking pictures of the signs.

jws were going by and smiling and giving a thumbs up.

Yes, I saw towards my later years in the religion that certain JWs sent their children to college. Certainly that was a wise choice.

I also saw that over time the attitude towards women getting secular work got somewhat better - as some in the hall also went out and got jobs. I was glad of that but still felt somewhat resentful because I ‘blazed the trail’ so to speak. None of these people faced the horrible attitudes from ‘Stepford-like women and men’ I encountered as a young adult when I joined.

I do think the Witness religion in general is fearful of any members getting outside influence. Although, I do think that your last paragraph is a generalization and not a guarantee that all people who pursue that type of education would remain ‘gullible enough to stay’. I think when people are fed up that’s it.

Of course, I don’t fit in these categories because I wasn’t raised a JW. I already had a secular job when I came in - which I held onto until retirement. So, I was always on the ‘outs’. But, that’s the way it is there. I’m just thankful I never listened.

JW current stance on Vaccines?

it came to my attention that the covid-19 vaccine works by editing the genetic code of the mitochondrial dna, using gene therapy.. you should seriously question the moral implications of allowing a part of your dna to be modified.

does anyone have any concerns about this?if anyone has any questions, i can do my best to explain.

i personally find it very suspicious how they chose to word it, and conveniently inform us of this fact "after" people have taken the vaccine..

If I were still in the religion (which thankfully I’m not) the Witnesses would have yet another reason to dislike me: I never got the coronavirus vaccine.

I know of a couple of JWs who regret having been talked into getting it.

Reddit post about elder asking congregation for money to fix his car!

yes, there’s a post on reddit.

it says that after a zoom meeting a request was made to baptized publishers to give $20 apiece to fix this elder’s car.. while this sounds highly irregular to me and not necessarily approved by the religion, i am not at all surprised at the nerve.

this, unfortunately, seems to be the direction that things are going there!

It makes me positively ill to read about JWs who leave money to the religion and leave their flesh and blood children penniless. This is why I’m so grateful I wasn’t raised in this religion.

I would feel disowned.. If that were my parents they’d better not imagine I would be there to have anything to do with them in their old age.. They’d better go ask the religion they esteem so highly to take care of them! What a rude awakening they will have.

As far as pioneers (who never wanted to work) having envelopes with cash shoved under their door: it wouldn’t have come from me.. (You don’t knock people for working and then ask them for money! It doesn’t work that way.) When I was In, I never gave anything to these deadbeats.

As time goes on and there are fewer types to give charity to these willfully unemployed Witnesses, I guess reality is going to hit them. I have No pity.
