pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".

You never did tell us how it ended when the San Diego mental hospital called you last year because they ‘wanted to release a homeless 70 year old because her family and local Witnesses didn’t want her…’

Of the demographic of people who have the potential to be most harmed in the end by the JW religion’s policies, it is women.

Don’t forget: a woman has two choices in life: she either has to get married and have a man support her OR she has to get a career to support herself.. And she has a small window of time in which to do this: like when she’s young!.. The Witness religion is great at wasting people’s time and ignoring the clock on the wall.

Your ex took the married route BUT was deceived by an uncaring religion with faulty teachings to leave her husband... This proved to be life-ruining for her.. It also showed up the JW religion’s promises of help and provision as a mirage that disappears in the desert.

I could go on but I could have ended up in a terrible predicament if I were more gullible back in the day! .. I kept that job they all hated me for!.. Maybe my so-called ‘worldly’ upbringing saved me from falling for utter bullshit.. This is mostly why I have no use for this religion and very Glad I got out.

I don’t think he has any ‘rough edges’ at all. He is very well-spoken and explains scriptures to the ‘T’. I also wonder about his present health.

While I’m not interested in getting involved with any other religion, I enjoyed the videos about his judicial committee and his conversation with the JW on the phone. What an eye-opener!

If this kangaroo court didn’t make the JW religion look bad, I don’t know what does. It clearly shows the Witness religion will refuse to listen to anybody’s defense. They are not at all interested in anybody using scriptures to back up a point. 👎

After you felt the cold sting of having no money for rent and insurance you got wise and KNEW you had to get steady employment.. Likewise, I kept my full-time job until Retirement, despite criticism.

Anybody reading these posts had better realize they need to do this!!! I am sorry to read about your ex and she is a perfect example of how not only does the religion break up marriages with their ‘spiritual endangerment’ (she came out the loser here), but they also will not support anybody!

Everybody is Out Of Luck if they don’t prepare for their retirement! ..Stop believing nonsense about ‘no need to prepare because the End is coming’..Believe at your own risk!

JW urban legends need to be debunked. The truth is (1) The Witness religion has NO social programs and (2) the idea that a dwindling number of people are going to be hit up for money to support a bunch of people who never worked is absurd and unsustainable.

Even if some people were kind once that wouldn’t be enough - because desperate JWs who hit retirement age with next to no SS/investments would expect handouts forever!.. This is a terrible situation and there are too many Witnesses in this predicament!!! ..I’m afraid things will get dire there and they might get very strident in going after JWs who ‘look affluent or responsible’ to give money to these people the religion misled.

It’s already illegal but it happens every day somewhere in Witness world that some minor is either thrown out of their home or compelled to leave. Just read posts on Reddit.

I see the point of those who argue that the government shouldn’t be involved in who people associate with.. But, my issue is how the dysfunction of the Witness religion causes problems to society in general.. I am referring to damaged people being burdens to taxpayers because they can’t function, etc.

While this veers a little off topic, another example is Witnesses who get jobs in hospitals, etc. and violate confidentiality and cause their employers to get sued. All these problems are caused by the religion and it would be nice if laws were passed to change things.

I read the article and it’s a sad story. Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t believe she got a ‘real’ invitation(?) It seems she took a gamble getting on a plane and going there!

The article shows she (Trish) was the one instigating contact looking for a relationship. Sadly, it would seem the mother loved the religion more (or she was afraid about how it would all look to other Witnesses). This must have made a bad impression on Trish’s husband.. Such an unnatural religion.

It seems to me she only got a few crumbs out of the whole thing. But, I guess to her it was worth it to try… It would appear the mother is not interested as long as Trish isn’t coming back to the JW religion. Unless ‘Trish’ is going back to the JWs, she should get on with her own life and marriage.😞

This is heartbreaking and I’m glad I was never raised a Witness.

Correct. This is what the Witness religion does, but the world doesn’t really know about it.

The man on Beroean Pickets once made a good point: ..a secular employer can fire somebody, but they don’t go around telling the person’s friends and family to shun him/her.. The Witnesses go too far!

As far as making a minor child leave home because they don’t want the JW religion, I know of two instances that happened years ago.. Surely, this should be illegal.. It just so happens it worked out well for these people.👍🏻

Of that 20%, how many are really wealthy?? Or, are they just gainfully employed and live well and look rich.. And not all are kissing up to COs.

It was my observation that Witnesses are terribly envious and imagine if somebody has a little something - they should throw money around like confetti..to people who never wanted to work no less.

I was a working woman criticized and shunned for my full-time job. Thankfully, I never listened or I wouldn’t have retired.. Do you imagine I am going to tolerate being targeted to give money to those who didn’t work?? 🤣 I don’t think so.. This is plainly a wrong assumption on the part of too many Witnesses. This isn’t even like 30 years ago when somebody got a bag of groceries for someone until they got back on their feet.. These people who made it to retirement age BROKE aren’t getting back on their feet and will expect handouts for the rest of their lives! This is the proverbial handwriting on the wall.

This why I’m Glad I left the JW religion decades ago.

Who knows if ‘Sue’ is even reading these posts? They should, even if it’s only for entertainment purposes. It’s highly probable this person doesn’t really know what 1975 was about.

I never found out the whole story of 1975 until I was out of the religion and read stories about it. (Certainly, older JWs who lived through this didn’t talk about it.).. So, it remained secret and younger JWs never heard about it. Some made similar foolish mistakes of quitting jobs to go ‘where the need was great’ before actual retirement age, etc. and ending up broke.

If people knew about the 1975 failure they might not have done these things.

YES, similar things happened again on a smaller scale maybe in the nineties or so.. all because of the secrecy in the religion.

As to your question, what does anybody’s finances have to do with the GB: the real answer is absolutely nothing.. But, because JWs is a cult/high control religion, they want subservient and stupid people there. This usually means uneducated and that frequently means broke. The people there were always nosey and in everybody’s business. Unfortunately, too many gullible people blabbed about their personal business - very unwise! If you were a single woman like I was, these idiots imagined they could come up to you and ask/say anything - which I doubt they would have done to a married person.. I’m just Glad that they never influenced me to do any of these foolish and risky things.

Are Elders prepared to take the fall for WT/GB misdemeanor's / crime ??

i have been thinking about this in relation to the directive given to elders to destroy any incriminating evidence they may have either on their pc`s ,e-mails , private notes in their possession, or notes in their witnessing bags ,etc.

to do with child sexual abuse they may still have in their possession.. isn`t that encouraging the elders to interfere with the justice system ?.

to break the law?.

I don’t know how everybody else feels, but am I supposed to feel sorry for these elders?? Sorry, but I don’t.

Of course, it might seem it’s all very unfair because they were just following orders.

The fact is that in all ways the elders are upholding the religion’s teachings. For instance: elders who secretly plan for their own retirement but yet preach the religion’s pushing poverty from the platform, thus dooming gullible individuals there to poverty in older age.. They had to have known they were dishonest lying rats for preaching hypocrisy!

With regard to the recent CSA scandals, any elder with an ounce of intelligence should get the hell out - and possibly get a lawyer as well because they may need one!

DESIROUS OF CHANGE:

While it’s nice to hear some Witnesses are smart enough to know they have to plan… the hypocrisy cannot be tolerated!

I am glad I had the strength of character to resist the pressure put on me by older JWs back when I was a young working woman. I held onto my job.. In the ‘90s (after ‘95 when I was PIMO and preparing my ‘Fade’) an elder made a slip of the tongue in conversation. He admitted he was working extra to prepare for retirement.. But, then he backtracked and tried to change what he said.

Of course, I saw through it all. They (elders and certain others) don’t want to be quoted as saying they are ‘preparing for their retirement’ or $aving!.. Unfortunately, and very sadly, gullible and younger people in the congregation didn’t prepare and today are suffering.. Words cannot describe how I have no use for this religion.
