i recently had a conversation with an old acquaintance from the congregation i used to attend.

we talked about the recent changes in the 2023 annual meeting.

i especially pointed out the one about getting rid of hourly reporting on monthly time slips.

DESIROUS OF CHANGE:

No, it’s not ‘unbelievable’… But, in your case, your wife was married. She was ‘protected’ because she was with you.

I noticed that other attractive women in the hall who were married were not scrutinized to the same degree. A single woman was treated as though she were a threat to everybody! And forget it if she worked and wasn’t doing favors for all the Users!

The two women I mentioned are/were married with children and didn’t have quite the ‘same’ experience as I did, but are well aware!

a builder who bludgeoned his client to death with a hammer in a row over her new extension has been jailed for at least 15 years for murder.. peter norgrove killed sharon gordon at her home on 20 july last year.. her daughter rhian brown said norgrove acted like a "wolf in sheep's clothing" after earning her trust at the church they attended in dudley.. wolverhampton crown court heard he led the jehovah's witness service the same night he killed mrs gordon.. he repeatedly lied to her about the work he was doing, which took 15 months instead of six weeks.. .

"he didn't have the experience to be doing the work he was doing," miss brown said.. "he took full payment for the extension in advance, which we believe to be more than £30,000.".

Yes, it might have been just plain old anger that this (meek) sister dared to question him. He surely would have hated me!

These JW guys just can’t stand being questioned or challenged - even if it’s about your own business. This is how sick the culture of the religion is: no damn boundaries in the first place and a mistaken trust in some people which is surely undeserved.

Next time somebody should look in the Yellow pages or ask their non-JW neighbors for some leads.

UPDATE:

I had a nice conversation with an acquaintance who is also close to the one mentioned in the OP.

We discussed all the things I talked about in the OP. We are on the ‘same page’ so to speak. This is a very smart retired professional lady who experienced the adversity that I experienced because I also worked. (Although she always took shit and abuse from elders as I think she was looking for approval.) Both these people are people pleasers whereas I am not. I was brutally honest with her which was fine because so many years have passed since I saw her. I told her because of what I experienced in the religion I would not tolerate these people as I had no use for them.. I was disliked because (1) I worked, (2) didn’t do favors and (3) had a decent figure I got criticized over. As they say: Three strikes and you’re out.. People even criticized her for bothering with me back in the day.

She is imagining that there’s hope I might ‘feel differently’ because the religion is ‘so different’ and the ‘end is so near’. Fat chance. We ended our conversation on a pleasant note.

Very sad. I am so Glad I never had business dealings with JWs. I heard a few horror stories.

When I say business dealings I’m not just referring to home improvements - but offers to get you to ‘invest’ as well. So glad I never got involved. The quoted “Wolf in sheep’s clothing” is a very apt description of some types preying upon gullible people there who, sadly, buy into what I feel is a phony ‘brotherhood’.

I know of a JW who feels they have been harmed by the vaccine and is sorry they got it because of strange ill effects. They wonder if there was some sort of detox to rid their body of it?

I remember in the beginning when there was talk of this vaccine and this person said she didn’t want it. Apparently, they were talked into it and now there is regret.

Thanks, but I didn’t do anything so spectacular. I was just doing what was expected of the average young person raised in a non-JW household.. I came INTO the JWs already with the job.

In my home and in society in general it was expected that girls as well as boys would get college/careers.. When I entered the backwards world of Jehovah’s Witnesses I felt I was in a 1950s time-warp with Stepford-type women.. But, I did not let their attitudes stop me from doing what I had to do - which was work.. I did the best I could in the religion for somebody who worked full time.

But, these JWs wanted total ‘surrender’ - which I would not give them. I could not help but notice all the older people were collecting their pensions. But, yet they were pushing poverty on me(?) ..I might have been young but I wasn’t stupid. I just disregarded their unwanted advice and minded my own business. It would seem I was the only one minding my own business since all these people were in everybody else’s business!

Yes, I watched it and he is right on the mark.

Eric Wilson of Beroean Pickets totally exposes the JW religion and the reason for their recent changes. I’m sure they must hate him. Everything they did was in response to outside threats to their ‘wealth’.

Anybody who insists on believing the JW religion’s doctrines are bible based is only fooling themselves.. I’m Glad I left years ago!

Very wise of you to have prepared for retirement whether this was because you were ‘having doubts’ about the religion’s teachings or because it’s just plain common sense!

As for those JWs that you mentioned who sold homes, etc. to go ‘where the need was great’ (a repeat of the ‘75 mistake)…and ‘never recovered from that blunder’ - they are among the ‘needy’ there looking for handouts. This is in addition to those who hardly worked and were in the ministry for decades.

I made it clear to my friend mentioned in my OP that I’m glad I’m not there and would not tolerate being in an environment where I would be targeted to give money. What others tolerate is their business.

And, it doesn’t surprise me that they are asking her personal and financial information. I have no use for them. This says it all.. What more does anybody need to hear? I couldn’t even tolerate being in the same room with them now. I hope your friend doesn’t check her brains at the door! ..She’s a perfect target. 👎

Thank you for your kind words.

Back in the day I certainly was going against the crowd because I worked and did not pioneer! It felt like actual hatred from some Witnesses there.

They were determined to ‘punish’ me by making sure I wasn’t invited anywhere.. Little did they know I had friends on the outside so these wonderful ‘Christians’ in the hall were not missed!.. [Funny experience: years later but before I Retired I’m in a local deli waiting for my order and I see an older lady staring at me. I didn’t know her but smiled anyway because that’s how I am. Later, I realized it was somebody from that judgmental hall.]
