Members of congregation know it’s not true

we have lonely old folks and even some not so old.. they know the gb are not who they claim to be.. but they stay in the congregation because they are lonely.

i wonder what percentage of jws this is the case, i would guess a lot.

I still believe that there are many older JWs who would never leave.

Jesus could come riding in on a wrecking ball smashing through the walls! These older JWs are there because of the sunk cost fallacy and because of the social aspects of the religion. Even though this religion is absolutely devastating to some, others have a great life there and consider it ‘home’.

It was easy for me to leave (2001) because I wasn’t born-in and, thankfully, had no family there. I worked and was on the fringes of the congregation. So, it was easy for me to walk away. They only miss the ‘suckers’ they can materially benefit from - like if someone provided a free service or opened up their home and fed the Users there.. Anybody else they don’t care about except maybe a brother who had something going for him.

I have listened to Fran & Joe and admire them for speaking out publicly about what they went through and to also to show that somebody older can leave the JWs.

Holding a grudge

i read something recently on reddit (not sure what thread) where a person related how some jw told them that ‘they hold a grudge’.. this reminded me of something an old jw acquaintance said to me some years back when i related my bad experience in the religion.. so, apparently, jehovah’s witnesses feel they should be forgiven for anything.

people should forget all about it and act like nothing happened and be charitable towards them, etc… when i read in james and ephesians i got the sense ‘holding a grudge’ was referring to the things average people do to offend each other.. i don’t see it applying to a religion that claimed to speak for god and who engendered hateful and unchristian attitudes towards people.. i know because i experienced this.. in addition, some people’s lives were damaged by listening to faulty teachings and interference in things that were clearly none of anybody’s business.. one case in point: them knocking worldly careers and now there are thousands of destitute jws in senior years with nothing.. then in 2023 the religion does away with a century old teaching about counting hours in the ministry.

meanwhile, i got judged over this.

Yes, there was a bias against newbies from the ‘world’ 🙄. But, I think I got it bad because I was a single woman, I worked - plus they had issues about my figure! It might have been different if I came in with a husband. I would have been viewed totally different. But, it was what it was. Worse yet, I did not follow in the footsteps of other single women there. You know the type: did housecleaning and favors for all the Users and were on the fast track to pioneering.👎

When I rejected this path, I was on the shit list . But, because I worked full time and was tired I didn’t notice or care much. My weekends were taken up doing errands, dr appointments or getting my car serviced. Any idiots who thought a single person had more time didn’t know what the hell they were talking about. I was lucky I got a nights sleep.

But, when all is said and done, I am Glad today I stuck to my guns and ignored the fools.

I was raised Roman Catholic and remember the confessional with the priest. There is a priest behind a dark fabric screen seated in profile in a booth and you are kneeling in the dark on something cushioned and you talk to him from the other side of the screen. He does not know your identity.

Now contrast that with the Jehovah’s Witnesses: Some elder sees you and knows all about you and tells all the other elders about your ‘sins’. Then he ‘slips’ and mentions something to his wife who gets on the phone and tells whoever, etc. Nothing is confidential and eventually some people in the whole circuit will know about your private problem.

I also agree that nobody in their right mind should be confessing private sins like some moron to anybody. Remember that others are just as sinful as you are. I also believe that too many JW born-ins are infantalized by the religion and can’t think for themselves. As a person not raised a Witness I picked up on that!

Right. As you said, the person/religion should only be forgiven if the four things you mention are fulfilled..

If these things don’t occur then there is NO basis for forgiveness and, in fact, somebody would be opening themselves up to more and worse abuse. It’s called being a glutton for punishment.

Yes, isn’t it something about rumors and urban legends in the Witness religion and how they are spread far and wide!

I always felt these were dangerous false hopes to spread around. That way people don’t make any real preparations for their life - only to find out in the end these stories were like a mirage in the desert.

Although I would like to think that the more sophisticated JWs know enough not to put any stock in them - especially if it’s something they heard ages ago.. The sad thing is that certain rumors persist til this day among the gullible and sheltered JWs.

It’s true what you say that Kingdom Halls were big cliques! I even felt that they had a bias against people not born-in - and that was on top of everything else!

Besides my job, I was criticized over clothing and had to hide my figure more. So, I was on the sh#t list early on.. I should have taken this as a warning and gotten the hell out early on - but I made a few friends and was optimistic!

So, I dressed more ‘modestly’ 🙄. But, I would not quit that job - so I was on the fringes of the congregation. There were some in the hall who I sensed had an ‘aversion’ to me but I paid no mind.

I suppose I would have had a lot of hurt feelings but being raised outside and having a ‘normal’ childhood (and working) gave me a thick skin. I suppose I wasn’t ‘seeking’ approval of other people since I already had self-esteem and knew who I was - something born-ins maybe did not have.

I suppose this is the benefit of a non-Witness upbringing and I’ve got to tell you it is priceless. After the 1995 Generation thing and me doing research (at work on my computer), I discovered TTATT and the mountain of information about the JW religion. I reconnected with old friends and relatives before it was too late. Priceless. I was able to deconstruct the silly teachings in my mind and I planned the day I would start my ‘Fade’.

I love telling my story on the Forum because the JWs are a secretive and hypocritical religion and expect somebody to go away quietly. I refused because the world and all the newbies who lurk here deserve to hear what goes on there!!!

Today I can say it was worth every penny to be shunned back then. And by who?? Most of those judgy Witnesses are now elderly OR have passed away!!..The lazy slugs you mention better go ask their spiritual friends for money.

It really puts things in perspective when you think of the big picture. Although I regret I never got the chance to tell off a few.

So, the next best thing I do when I encounter older JWs anywhere and they ask how I am, I make it a point to tell them I’m well and GLAD I never listened back then.

It may be petty but the way I figure it - a good portion of the Witnesses over the years were either in a car group or at a gathering (to which I was not invited) and I’m sure I was gossiped about relentlessly! ..SO, I make sure they hear that I am super glad I did the wise thing keeping my job - especially after the change at the 2023 annual meeting about no longer counting time!

The response I get ranges from JWs who admit I did the smart thing - to some who resent me. Maybe it’s a ‘misery loves company’ thing or they don’t like the assumed criticism of the religion’s faulty teachings.

Yeah, they are ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ alright.

The last of my former JW friends are in a news blackout. They know next to nothing about the CSA scandals or anything else in the news. They barely know what they are supposed to believe in. They think the new changes are great.

They believe the urban legends and false stories circulated in the religion. One of them even believes the religion has social programs with canned food to help the needy. I tried to explain that anything they heard of must have been organized by local JWs who paid for this out of their own pockets. They also think the religion has a ‘free’ rest home for the very elderly. 🤣They imagine they can plant themselves at some point on some bethel doorstep.

The whole thing is pathetic. If and when the religion sells off all the halls and they are left high and dry, they will be gobsmacked.

In addition to those robots having ‘no empathy’, everybody IGNORED the glaring hypocrisy that those who urged ME and other young people to pursue poverty were themselves living a cushy life! ..The attitude I picked up on was that MY life/welfare/future ‘did not matter’.. Was it because I was young and female? I think so.. Possibly one reason (besides pioneering) was those hypocrites imagined they would have smiling servant girls around to make everybody feel good.👎

Thank God for my non-JW upbringing. When I looked around the hall, I observed ALL the older people were collecting pensions (because of having been in the workforce) or they had a business!!! No poverty or sacrifice for them! .. But, yet they had NO problem telling ME and others to pursue poverty. Anybody who listened has a problem today.

Now that I’m retired and older, I see that just about all those older busybodies (elders and others) with cushy lives, etc. are mostly gone!!!.. Meanwhile, myself and others who got criticized for looking out for our own welfare are left feeling like we dodged a bullet, so to speak.. As for those younger pioneers back then who scoffed at me and got invited to special dinners (their reward) .. they can go ask somebody ELSE for money!

I know what you mean as I saw that hypocrisy and certain people there who thought they were ‘special’, etc. This mostly pertained to hurt feelings I think.

But, in my case, them intruding themselves into people’s lives by telling them what kind of employment they should pursue, goes beyond hurt feelings. It is people’s livelihood. If I were fool enough to have listened I might be destitute now. Would they help or support me? No.

So, in answering my ex-friend, I explained that the answer would be No if they came up to me asking for $. This is a direct consequence of the religion/members’ attitudes towards me and other responsible people who worked. This attitude is in the ‘culture’ there.

The Witnesses imagine the laws of ‘cause and effect’ do not apply to them. Well, I have news for them… They also believe in urban legends and false stories. There is, unfortunately, an air of make believe and unaccountability that runs through the whole religion. This is just one of the many reasons I’m Glad to be Out of there.. I would run from them now.
