You and a lot of others said bye bye to the JW religion. But not all left right away.

Some, like me, took several years. I didn’t know what to do with myself but I was on the fringes of the congregation and my attendance dropped.. I started a ‘Fade’ at the right moment.. But, I had a full-time job so I didn’t have to worry about that.

Besides Fading, other Witnesses had to get serious about a decent job and those that had an ounce of intelligence acted without delay!! ..Nineteen ninety five is almost 30 years ago.. Certainly this was enough time to do something about retirement and paying into SS if somebody was serious enough and realized the gravity of their situation.

I don’t know what to say about Witnesses who did not heed this very loud wake-up call. What a shame if they did absolutely nothing!😞

so in the first clip i posted few days ago this young couple especially the sister are struggling with being committed active jws, very likely pioneers, and also following harmful advice from the watchtower not to have a family or higher education ot a better job.

now as things worsen they find it hard to cope.

I watched it. Very touching.

The one thing the elderly man said that I tend to agree with was him saying not to keep focused on the end coming (or words to that effect).. It just so happens that I did not leave the religion because I ‘couldn’t wait for Armageddon’. No, I walked away after the 1995 Generation teaching because I felt the Witness religion was just stringing everybody along. I didn’t believe they had any truth!

As for JWs here in the US: somebody talking to older people there may not necessarily make them feel good if that person is struggling.

The first type of older JWs that I remembered were ones who pioneered and struggled (and were looked down upon like idiots - especially since they were looking for handouts and were resented by everybody); the other type were the ones with cushy lives. They were enjoying life and not necessarily wishing for any ‘End’ to come!

The second type with the comfortable lives were clearly happier and content to live out their lives in ‘this system’.

Yes, 1995 did it for me. I was in the hall and felt like I got sucker punched because I first heard it there and had not prepared for the meeting.

I also recall being bothered because they just sneaked it into the paragraph. Were they hoping nobody would notice?.. Well, I noticed it and I then vowed on the spot to get out of the religion and I did.

As for your comment about those with fancy cars, etc. making judgmental remarks about people with decent jobs (ie. anything other than the approved cleaning); I was a target of that hate campaign.. But, I ignored those hypocrites and kept on working full time like many responsible people did.. No regrets.

Holding a grudge

i read something recently on reddit (not sure what thread) where a person related how some jw told them that ‘they hold a grudge’.. this reminded me of something an old jw acquaintance said to me some years back when i related my bad experience in the religion.. so, apparently, jehovah’s witnesses feel they should be forgiven for anything.

people should forget all about it and act like nothing happened and be charitable towards them, etc… when i read in james and ephesians i got the sense ‘holding a grudge’ was referring to the things average people do to offend each other.. i don’t see it applying to a religion that claimed to speak for god and who engendered hateful and unchristian attitudes towards people.. i know because i experienced this.. in addition, some people’s lives were damaged by listening to faulty teachings and interference in things that were clearly none of anybody’s business.. one case in point: them knocking worldly careers and now there are thousands of destitute jws in senior years with nothing.. then in 2023 the religion does away with a century old teaching about counting hours in the ministry.

meanwhile, i got judged over this.

My old acquaintance was a married woman who had no concept of what it was like to work and support herself. A man supported her and she never thought twice about it.

The worst attitude was they imagined I (as a single woman) should ‘persecute’ myself and live poorly with a roommate and have no life. They thought I should pioneer, do housecleaning and favors for Users. Meanwhile, they lived in luxury.. Imagine the fkng audacity?

Listen, I know some marriages are hell and some women are abused. I’m not talking about them. I’m referring to those who are mostly older with children out of the house. They have a cushy life because the man makes a good living (and I do not begrudge anybody that).

My problem is when they made idiot remarks about somebody like me. I was getting home late from my ft job. When I got to the hall say on a Thursday night meeting, I was coming in from a long day of work, maybe cold inclement weather. Sometimes I hadn’t had dinner yet. Meanwhile, they just pushed themselves away from their dinner tables after an easy day. The problem is when they made unforgivable remarks about people’s ‘spirituality’ and not pioneering. Some of these ‘great ladies’ might have hosted those special dinners for young pioneers. Of course, I was never invited to them but I have to say it proved to be worth every penny not to have been!

When the stupid religion took away the reporting of hours and time slips (2023), I was ever so glad I never listened to their garbage and had no regrets about what I did.

one of the greatest issues facing the organization today is couples that sacrificed family life or businesses opportunity in order to preach the many dates the watchtower set in the .

past only to be betrayed in recent years as the watchtower is moving away from date setting.

The organization hasn’t just moved away from date setting but got rid of a crucial teaching at their 2023 annual meeting.. They said it’s no longer necessary to count hours and turn in a time slip.. But, what about those JWs who did this for years? Even if it wasn’t full time, their time could have been spent in a decent job. I’m glad I never listened! ..I worked full time.

I watched the video and the gist I got was that it’s ‘not their fault’ about the choices people made. I guess they are trying to keep even more disgruntled and disappointed older people from leaving.

Yes, and in these cases, they are certainly not obliged to forgive!

I cannot get over the arrogance and delusion of people in the religion - like my old acquaintance who imagined I was going to give money to JWs who criticized me for working!.. They instead believed they should be in the ministry ringing doorbells for 40 years and as a result - did not pay enough into SS.. Very sad but this is not my problem.

I assume you are referring to people harmed by the religion(?) Many have died over the years so there’s no justice for them.

The ones living who fell for the bullshit and never got a career and have reached retirement age unprepared, are in a terrible predicament!

I am just seeing a post on Reddit: “You Are Not Obligated to Forgive”.

The person posted a paragraph from an Awake article, 6/8/95, pp 9-11.. [I do not have any of the religion’s literature in my possession anymore to verify so I take her word for it.]. She dredged it up because years earlier they tried to get her to go back to her ex-husband who never apologized. The end of the paragraph says: ..”No victim of extremes in unjust or cruel treatment should be forced to forgive an unrepentant wrongdoer.” ..There it is.

This is how I view the religion and the people in it in their treatment of others there (shunning, unchristian attitudes) over many decades.. A lot of what went on there severely impacted some people’s lives. These people can never get justice.

The average Witness does not get a ‘pass’ as far as I am concerned. (And what I experienced was minor compared to what others suffered there).. Some may disagree and say ‘they were just following orders’.. I don’t accept this attitude - that or the other excuse of ‘imperfection’ that everybody loves to trot out.

No worries. It’s just a general etiquette that you learn when you’re on a forum.

We might have all done it and it’s not a big deal if it’s one post but only when the discussion goes way off in another direction. No ‘grudges’ here. 😊 I’ll save those for something more deserving, like the JW religion.

Getting back to my topic: I have encountered attitudes in general that it is not ‘Christian’ to hold a grudge. I might agree depending on what the grudge is about and who committed the wrong.

Some (whether in the ex-JW community or not) have an attitude that ‘we’ should move on. Which is another way of saying forget all about it.. Now, everybody’s experience in the Witness religion is not equal. I was a single woman who worked and got marginalized and criticized over this. No big deal since I never listened and walked away from the religion.

But, what about others who lost loved ones over the blood doctrine or suffered over shunning or CSA and other numerous horror stories economic and whatever?.. They were much more harmed there than I ever was. Compared to them, I only suffered hurt feelings.

I suppose what bothers me about the whole thing is the never-ending (at least not yet) entity responsible for all this! It just goes on and on….with no apologies.
