so another generation of young people with ruined lives.

another generation of young people that will get old and wake up in their 50s to realize they were in a religious doomsday cult.. and they are getting rid of some old workers that ran the branches of the organization, and giving them different assignments or maybe they are just sending them home, who knows.

You are correct that the “WTS passes the buck to..nebulous congregation(s) out there”… What the hell do they care?

This situation will simply add yet another category of needy person to the Jehovah’s Witness congregations.

So, from what I can gather and this may vary from place to place, they have : (1) pioneers who didn’t prepare for retirement (the most obvious); (2) other rank & file Witnesses who worked low paid jobs (no OT) closer to home so they wouldn’t miss meetings; (3) people with serious social ills who were led to believe the congregation was going to ‘take care of them’; (4) bethelites who got kicked out at age 50 or so (some may have gotten on their feet or employed by brothers with businesses)…(5).NOW, they are going to have even older potentially unemployable bethelites dumped on them!

This is entirely too many needy people in one organization.👎 When I got the hell out of the JW religion years ago, this situation wasn’t even on my mind.. I left after the 1995 Generation thing.. Now, the environment there is a disaster and potential powder keg, IMO.

i just read this.

don’t know if anybody here has seen the video.. the intended result of this is to obviously scare ‘faders’ out of the shadows.

now, they are being threatened with loss of association with their loved ones and friends.

For somebody like me who ‘Faded’ ages ago who had no family there since I wasn’t ‘born in’ this means nothing.. I was able to maintain a few friendships there for a long time. But, the friendships ended at some point. This was no surprise to me as most friendships (there especially) have an expiration date. They were like former co-workers on a job.. It is No loss really since life moved on…

The JW religion might gain a few people back here and there who will go back and ‘fake it’ for the sake of having that bit of association with whoever.. Sorry for the aggravation they are going to be put through!

Words cannot describe how much I hate and despise the Witness religion for its hypocrisy. I don’t have any use either for the rank & file who went along with this.

As you said HOSER: they’d be looking for a handout from my diligent hands. Thank God I’m long gone from this. I’m no longer there for them to try to bother me.. What are they going to be doing? Cannibalising each other? You have a steady stream of people leaving the religion.. Just who will be left there to shake down?? This isn’t going to be pretty.

There would be no peace there. I rest my case.

Yes, I certainly did know that people who are ‘cast aside’ (a polite term for being kicked out of bethel) 🤣 were told to ‘expect’ help from Witness relatives and friends in their ‘old’ congregation.

The problem is those people may not agree with this.. It’s one thing to get someone a bag of groceries until they get back on their feet. But let’s be honest here. These people who are in advanced age - are not getting ‘back on their feet’. They are expecting to be supported pure and simple. Hope everybody realizes this.

The religion really didn’t think this out and probably doesn’t care.. They probably just want the problem to go away, at least during their lifetime.

I will say it again: as somebody criticized for working who received the whole ‘shunning routine’ - I will not be targeted to give money to people who didn’t work or hardly worked and/or those who got kicked out of the religion’s compound because the religion didn’t want to pay for them anymore.

If I had listened to the JW religion years ago and quit my job to be in the full-time ministry, would anybody be supporting me today??? I doubt it.

Your wise grandfather was right. The Witnesses are Takers and Users. Yet, they criticized responsible working people. Go figure.

I left ages ago and am glad to not be around these old pioneer critics now who didn’t prepare for retirement - in addition to various other people kicked out of bethel. 👎

not even as active as the jws (whom i have not seen for around a year now), nevertheless i get an occasional leaflet or other publication in my letterbox that seems to be seventh day adventist in origin.. the booklet i received the other day was entitled "national sunday law".

i also had received this book years ago when i had some dealings with the sdas.. from reddit: "national sunday law involves a conspiracy theory which alleges that the united states government is on the verge of enacting a national blue law that would make sunday a day of rest and worship.

the theory depends on the idea that the pope is the antichrist and the mark of the beast is worshipped on sunday.

Yes, Pennsylvania is the place where it all happened. Nice place though. Great history. I have some relatives who live there. They were never in the JW religion, thankfully.

But, I wonder though how many of Jehovah’s Witnesses realize the origin of their own religion? Probably not many because they are so ignorant.. I think at some point the JW religion will join the ranks of other religions that originated in this area that nobody pays much attention to anymore!

What a sickening story about this ex-Bethelite who froze to death on a park bench!.. The religion he worked for his whole life abandoned him and got away with it.. Too bad the world doesn’t really know about this because PIMI Witnesses cover up dirty stories like this!

As far as any elderly bethelite sent to some congregation somewhere to supposedly ‘help’: that’s a laugh. The unfortunate rank & file in any such congregation would be hit up left and right for money to cover this penniless elderly person’s needs..along with other JWs there who hardly worked.

Is the religion kidding?? Do they imagine any intelligent person who worked would want to stay in this religion?? This is the handwriting on the wall. Glad I got out years ago.

You are so right in all of these areas.

A Jehovah’s Witness is simply set up for financial failure if they follow the ‘rule book’ and listen to the stifling culture there.

As I mentioned, I was not raised in the religion so certain things you said I never would have done. For example: “your good JW friends will discourage you from topping off your 401K…” [This confessing mentality and having everybody know your business is absurd and foreign to non-JWs. That would be like me telling the man on the corner my business!].. Witnesses are fooled to think they are in one big happy family. They aren’t.

As it was, even though I wasn’t raised a Witness, some of the dysfunction still rubbed off on me. The tendency to daydream and let time slip by is almost fatal.. I could have done MUCH better for myself.. Thank God it wasn’t worse and that I at least did what I did and worked! 🙏🏻

Even JWs who might be inclined to give money to freeloaders in the congregation might be less generous in a bad economy.

As someone not raised a Witness and brought up by hardworking and thrifty people, I was appalled by what I saw were just plain deadbeats in the religion.. However, there were also very responsible people there who wouldn’t ask anybody for anything.

I wondered why there wasn’t a denunciation of these freeloaders. Then I realized the religion wouldn’t want to discourage these people because they were in the full time ministry.. So there were ‘hints’ that people should ‘help’ them.. Not me. Not after I was treated like an outcast for working! I wasn’t giving anybody there a damn thing.

The eighties era had a great economy. If only these Witnesses didn’t throw good jobs away with both hands and arrogantly scoff at me for working. They might be in decent shape today…instead of something I would run from.

I was just reading a Reddit thread on this topic!

First of all, anybody over 80 has no home to go to. Everybody has died unless there is a nephew. Please tell me the JW religion isn’t sending people over 80 ‘home’ to serve in some congregation somewhere! God help that congregation.. I hope this is a misunderstanding and they are just giving them different assignments in bethel. I know the religion is downsizing, but really? This would be very low down.

Every time I turn around I read something that makes me thankful I got out years ago.
