  What Did You Do For Fun That You Felt The WT Frowned Upon?

  in the light of the lifting of sanctions on glass clinking and recent threads on chess and dvds of lord of the rings, was there anything you did for fun, as a hobby or for recreational purposes that you felt might be "taken the wrong way" if it came to the attention of the elders or sister busybody?.

  I totally agree with you that certain ‘easily offended people’ gravitate to high control groups like the Witnesses because they feel they will get their way.

  Example: you being told that somebody in the congregation is offended or ‘stumbled’ because of something you said, did, wore, etc… Therefore, because of Christian love, consideration, etc., you will stop doing the ‘offending’ thing.🙄 (Then again, you might stubbornly continue doing whatever and the control freaks will hate you.)😉

  There is another thing that I think some people are attracted to in the JWs: mental laziness and not wanting to think. I met people there who liked the idea they didn’t have to be educated or read books.👎 (Meanwhile, I loved reading.).. These JWs also preferred being told what to do as it absolved them of responsibility.. Again, I wasn’t raised as a Jehovah’s Witness so I never related to this mentality.

  What you say is spot on.

  When I finally ‘Faded’ from the Jehovah’s Witnesses, I felt like I set down a ton of bricks! It was such a relief that I could hardly believe it.

  No way was any of this ever Jesus’s kindly yoke and light load!.. Far from it.

  he asked why we have them over for dinner....we are not disfellowshiped just faded away so we can still have dinner with witness friends now we have known for 10 years.

  alot of "faders" do same.

  you might listen to afew dumb scriptures from them but still friends..

  I also ‘Faded’ years ago…and it was a late reaction to the 1995 Generation teaching.

  I was bored and didn’t know what to do with myself. I did a lot of research about the Jehovah’s Witnesses history.. I didn’t have to ‘get my act together’ because I was already working.. It was a winter weeknight meeting when I started my Fade cold turkey.. I stayed home and watched CSI.

  But, I think you and I differ as Faders because My Fading had nothing to do with me wanting to retain friends in the Witnesses.. I had associations outside the religion and I was working.. As it happens, I did keep a few JW friends for some years but it eventually came to an end. This did not surprise me and honestly was NO loss.. You, on the other hand, are kidding yourself…as this may happen to you - unless you capitulate.

  Personally, I cannot stand the mentality of Witnesses and am relieved to not have them in my life anymore.

  I am glad you told off that presumptuous elder at the funeral home.

  Because reading of anything other than the religion’s literature is frowned upon, many Witnesses are painfully ignorant.. They don’t know enough to even appreciate what you said.

  Even if somebody didn’t have higher education they could read one of those periodicals once in a while (like Time magazine). They should do this for ‘fun’. They would then have an idea of how the real world works... You can read these magazines for free at the local public library!

  While some people may feel sorry for JWs, I do not.

  The scripture you quoted should blow away the Jehovah’s Witness religion’s reason for even existing with their life-ruining rules and regulations.

  Those are good points you mentioned.. But, I would add one: ‘making judgments on people’s education and/or employment’.

  Isn’t it funny that all these things are coming to a head now in the religion???

  All I can say is that I am ever grateful NOW that I never listened to any of those judgmental S.O.B.’s in the Witness religion all those years ago!👍🏻

  Why "Removed" instead of "Disfellowshipped or Shunning"

  i was mulling this over last night...too much free time, i know.

  both disfellowshipping and shunning indicate the action of avoiding someone, taking them out of your sphere of associates.

  probably is a better sound bite to say "removed.

  NOT FORMER:

  How about sleeping in on Saturday mornings? 🤣 Seriously, while this may not be classified as ‘fun’ it was a necessity for me who worked full-time years ago. I was exhausted.

  For fun: I shopped until I dropped. Ate out. Read whatever I wanted. I also took in a movie now and then, regardless of how it was rated.

  Even when I was active in the Witness religion, I ‘toasted’ when at non-JW events as I was in the workforce. Didn’t give it a second thought.

  When I ‘Faded’ from the JWs and reconnected with my estranged Catholic family, I celebrated Christmas with a vengeance.. I do so every year.. Never mind the ‘pagan’ nonsense.. Everything is pagan: the days of the week and the months, etc.

  The JWs tried to separate me from my family and can never be forgiven! ..My first act as a ‘Fader’ was to purchase Holiday cards in a Hallmark store and I sent them to so many people. It made me feel so good and it was wonderful to receive responses. I felt like I was rejoining the human race again.

  Whether or not the JW religion also relaxes its stand on more absurd rules designed to separate JWs from everybody else - makes no difference to those of us spectators who are Out and moved on.

  I wasn’t in the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion yet in 1975.. I was blissfully ignorant of this fiasco while I was in the Catholic Church.

  I know what you mean about ‘how your life passes you by’. This is why I am grateful today I got out of the JW religion years ago! ..I was able to undo the one horrible mistake I made (glad I didn’t listen to anything else they said) while I was young & gullible in this religion…I reconnected with my estranged family and relatives (that I was told not to bother with) ..before it was too late!🙏🏻

  I agree that some just “say it the way it IS”.

  Many people don’t like the word ‘cult’ and are offended if it is applied to their group. While people realize the JWs aren’t like Jonestown or other notorious groups, they do have some characteristics that are similar.

  I was watching a video from Bethany of ‘Stop the Shunning’ and she feels it is important that somebody in government referred to it as such. She feels that governments in particular won’t take the violations of the religion seriously if the word ‘cult’ were not used. I believe she has a point.

  I guess time will tell what will happen with this development.
