  i had been having bad gas for a few days...when i mean bad, i mean clear the room bad and call in hazmat, it was so bad my dog left the room crying.. anyway, i was at the mall and i had to let one go and a man passed by and he said, "dam, they must be repairing the sewage pipes.

  let's say that this literal god we all squable over came from the sky and said: "Howdy doodie human beans! I'm God, the one who made everything including YOU!!"

  there would still be atheists, and still be theists. there would still be people whose range of awareness is such that they would be atheistic to other gods (say thor for example), but theistic towards this new god who appeared in the sky.

  i would no longer be an atheist towards the god who appeared, of course, but it does not mean that i would worship she/he/it. let's be clear about this distinction.

  and all the people who did worship this new god would all be going: "see! God does exist! we were right! yay team!" - without comprending that they are like everyone else still: theist AND atheist. LOL.

  have you ever thought one of the main reasons we have religion is so people like george bush and osama bin ladin (kings) can get young men to die in battle for them.

  to furhter their economic and hedonistic pursuits.. this goes all the way back to bible times, the israelites conquering the promised land for the ruling levitical priesthood.. if every one was an atheist they would not go to war knowing when they die, that is it.

  at least not in a former wealthy society like the united states.. the bible& the koran are to serve the kings, rulers to further their agendas of world domination.

  there are probably many atheists who regularily worship their country or consumerism.

  i don't think that religion causes wars. i think that religion just gives people an excuse to behave like animals.

  and on the other hand, i know for a fact there are very religious people who would never join the army, and atheists who do join the army and kill people.

  having a lack of belief about some ancient tribal god isn't where the journey stops. if we are to truly evolve psychologically, we have to get past all the religion, including the mall or the whitehouse or whatever company we work for or club we belong to.

  i mean, as long as we are using labels like this, we should know that we belong to a group, and no group is guiltless. i'm an atheist, and so was stalin. does that make me stalin? are all xians george bush? are all muslims osama bin laden? are all jews sharon?

  ya, i have a lack of belief in most all so-called literal gods (God included).

  i'm also a pantheist (God = Nature/Cosmos).

  in terms of "god" as a metaphor for ourselves and our systemic relationship with everything, i'm a fervent theist. :)
