let me preface this by saying how much i enjoy learning.
i read constantly.
but as for "personal study", i did my best... i forced myself, but could never get into it.

good and bad .
by: jeff a. benner .
very few sermons in our western synagogues and churches would include the passage "i [god] form the light and create darkness, i make peace and i create evil, i am the lord who does all of these" (isaiah 45:7) as our western mind sees these two forces as opposing opposites while the eastern mind sees them both as equals and necessary for perfect balance.
interesting stuff morocco! i see the tendency toward dualism in the west as well. and it's interesting how dualism works to a degree, before begining to sort of fall apart. and monism seems absurd, at first, to the mind steeped in dualism.
it's funny how humans have made this journey from a primitive form of monism, to a life of duality, only to eventually begin the long trek forward to monism again, in some sort of evolved way. and i actually see the account in genesis of adam and eve and the trees of knowledge and eternal life as metaphors for this journey.

does anyone here use the ubunto os?
i've been reading a bit about it, and have a spare hard drive i can install it on to experiment without risking my data so i fancy giving it a try.. the main things that concern me are ease of use/setup (once i get used to it), and compatability with other software i use.
for example, will the driver for my modem/printer/scanner/etc be compatable?.
hi gadget,
the drivers for your hardware will not be compatable. hardware makers usually only make drivers for windows and mac.
that said, linux really does rock. i am not sure about ubunto, but most major distros like fedora come with generic drivers for hardware. but there is no guarantee.
part of the journey into linux and opensource software is that it makes a bit of a hacker out of you. you will probably be required to wrap your head around finding and installing drivers from the command line. but this is good knowledge to have, considering how important linux is becoming these days. dual booting might also be a challenge for you, since depending on the booting software that ubunto comes with, it may not see the windows side if it is not fat32. and most xp machines are formatted NTFS if i remember correctly. this issue may also be a problem in trying to see files on the windows side from ubunto, but it's worth a shot still.
may the source be with you,

just a little breaking news:.
after several years of a great friendship with diane (previously posted as xena) things have started to really come together recently and i've succumbed to making an honest woman of her (or at least as honest as it's possible to make her.
last night (xmas day) i popped the question and she agreed to marry me (i wonder if she knows what she's let herself in for!!!)..
WHOA!!! really?! way cool!
super duper congrats to you both!
best wishes too and lots of confetti!

i was just doing my page on myspace and this question really stuck with me.
i dont know if something is wrong with me or what, but if i have to answer this question truthfully i have to say i dont have one.
i like to learn about many different people and their achievements but in reality i just like being myself and not try to emulate someone else.
heros, hmmm....
i have lots of heros. a recent one i have picked up is marc emery.

i've been posting here for quite a long time, so long in fact that it just doesn't feel right that my wife isn't a part of it.
earlier today i created an account for her with the username heron, she'll know why.
i'm not sure if my wife will ever post here but i would feel much more comfortable knowing she is aware that i do.. this is the one post i am going to ask her to read.. so, i'd really appreciate it if you could say hello to my lovely wife.
hi heron! a warm welcome to JWD! :)

a friend of mine (still an active jw) is quite sure that r.franz is back into wts.
from his point of view, an evidence is that he never published the 2nd part of isocf, even if it was announced in the first isocf.
i'm quite sure this is a nonsense , but you may help me with some information.
probably an urban legend for the sake of the lil' minds.
the real question is, *why* would ray ever go back to the wts? suddenly it becomes apparent to him that they really are joe hoba's earthly org? how? and why would it suddenly be apparent to ray, and not all the other christan ex-wits?
sounds like the wet dream of some wts apologist if i ever heard one.

i read that david beckham is leaving real madrid and coming to the us to play for the la galaxy.
soccer is not that popular in the us and that is a obscene amount of money to pay a player and i am surprised that david beckham would want to finish out his career playing in the us.
i guess for $250 million anyone would.
250 mil?
no way. $250.00 USD / day, on the field only, MAX.

it is what they call new guys at bethel.
its a way the guys, who have been there awile (like over a year) to put you down.................if you are a new boy you don't know how the organization really works.. one of my favorite new boy stories is about lyman swingle gb.. lunch in the 124 lower dining room 1973. lyman swingle table head said to a new black bethelite........"boy would you pass me the potatos?
black swan, i like your avatar.
hi new boy!
my screen handle is what i realized i am in essence, one day, whilst on that most bumpy of rides we call: "leaving da troof". and that is, a four-limbed sapient-minded organism. it struck me because i realized that biological knowledge had given me an insight into myself that i would have gone without in that old religion. by way of free association, i thought of the tree of knowledge, and the serpent, and how snakes are actually from the tetrapod family, but they lost their limbs through millenia of evolution. and how the serpent had stood for freedom of thought in the original conflict between man's dreams and man's fears (the tree of knowledge and YHWH respectively). and i was proud to be a tetrapod because i saw that our time of greatness on this planet had been forseen a long time ago, and misread horribly. but ultimately this thought was inspired by the very book i had used as a tool to destroy my faith in that old religion: genesis. and it (the experience) told me that knowledge would be my adventure into duality, but that ultimately i would come home again to "oneness", back to eden, via power over my dna, or more poetically, the cosmic serpent. back to the tree of life so-to-speak, this time turning the guardian angels of my fear-ridden mind away because i had become as strong as the metaphor that they are themselves. the interpretation is so liberally metaphorical, it almost has a tinge of plausibility.
not that i propose a new classification system for members of my species who have gone through this experience. i believe all life forms are sapient in their own ways. but for me, tetrapod is a broad enough umbrella, and sapien is the designation of the "thing", the human being, who has highly abstracted sapeince as a point of noteworthiness. it's not self flattery. it's self organization.
my avatar is a pic of me in croatia last summer. my hair is longer now, in dreadlocks. so i could just be a "crazy hippy" too. :) and if that is how people like to label me, then all i can say is that i hope the labeling system is working well for them. ha! irony of ironies!
peace,
tetra
