The brothers in Savannah GA were given a little leeway when it came to food service for the Circuit Assembly and we had great Chilli. This was in the late 70's/early 80's.

the tickets were traded for terrible food.

JWs and Gambling
by JohnnyMarr ini've been inactive for a while and i can't remember the jws stance on gambling.
i'm kinda big into poker now and i want to know what to expect if i'm televised or spotted in a public tournament.
is it a disfellowshipping offense, public reproof offense, or conscious decision?

What book or movie most resembles the WTS in your opinion? Why?
by whyizit ini've seen where some former jws compare the wts to certain movies or books (such as the village and 1984).
i just wondered what movies or books reminded you of the wts and why?
did you draw this conclusion before or after you left the organization?

Witness w/ Harrison Ford. If the Society had it's way, we would be living the life of the Amish. During that movie I noticed a quick build ..... a disfellowshipping and a strictly regimented way of life that isn't too far off from the way the Society wants Witnesses to live.

I try to do a little recording when I get a chance. I use Cool Edit Pro, N-Track, Internet Tape Deck and Audacity for recording. For sound editing and effects I prefer to use Cool Edit Pro, for mixing I like N-Track. For recording live instruments and vocals, I like Internet Tape Deck. For the time being, I'm using FL Studio 5 as a drum machine/sequencer.

Jehovah's Witness skating parties were da bomb!
by PaNiCAtTaCk inwas this just a local arkansas thing or were jw's everywhere getting jiggy at the skating rink?
we used to have awesome skating parties and witnesses from 150 miles away would come sometimes.
or sometimes we would drive that far to go to one.

We had rollerskating parties in Augusta GA every Sunday after the meeting back in the early to mid 80's. Then along came Hudson Owens. Quite possibly the meanest, cruelest, intolerant circuit overseer to hook up to a camper. They pretty much fizzled out after he bullied the elders around town into stopping them. Those were defenitely good times.

These people who give up their music careers for a little bit of back patting at assemblies are stupid. Growing up I took music classes throughout middle and high school. Every time I picked up an instrument to play a hit from the radio I could always count on some punk ass elder or other high and mighty individual to ask me if I knew any "Kingdon Songs". I would always play life without end it last to make them shut the hell up and go back to having fun. Upon graduating, I was able to start making money on the weekends playing at local bars. Because of this I was told that I couldn't be a ministerial servant. The only acceptable way that I could pursue music as a career was if I was in a band comprised only of other witnesses. Considering that their are other Witnesses in bands that aren't comprised entirely of Witnesses ..... Larry Graham ... Prince .... Selena .... George Benson and others ..... I found this highly hypocritical. Needless to say ...... because of that and my lack of brown nosing skills in general ... I never became a misterial servant.

Once an elder was giving a talk about Balaam and he kept speaking about how Ballam "whooped his ass". I'm from the rural south and when you hear the phrase "whooped his ass", you automatically think of a physical confrontation between two people and one person coming up sith the short end of the stick. Me and my friends couldn't wait to get out in the parking lot after the meeting and just die laughing. I hear even the brothers in the elders meeting that night got a big laugh out of it.

Once I was out and on my own I had to work very hard to make a decent living. Attending college was looked down on back then and I wasn't about to wash windows and kiss the PO's ass like a lot of my friends. I mainly worked all of the time and when I had free time , I either spent it at home relaxing, or hanging out with my gf, who at the time was a pioneer. I had no interest in field service or sitting in a boring ass meeting during the little spare time I had. In due time my gf dumped me because her parents thought I was a loser and I started seeing this non witness chick in another state. The phone calls and unannounced shepharding calls started after that. I pretty much told the elders that I was sick of trying to play the "are you good enough for our daughter" game with all of these young sisters parents and that I was dating out of the truth. They told me I was unacceptable marriage material because I was spiritually weak. Deep down inside I was never "in the truth" to begin with. It was more or less a hangout. The hangout got old and tired and I left. No big change in attitude or anything like that. I simply outgrew the whole scene.
