trading insults happens among kids all the time.. intellectual development hasn't progressed to the point where they can present contrary ideas and opinions with persuasive appeal to reasons, facts and logic.. "i know you are; but what am i?".
"your momma's so fat....".
so, they fall back on childish mocking, provocation and personal attack.. as we grow older and have more education and sophistication our minds should mature---or so you'd think!.

Ignoring those who disagree with you is sometimes a more mature position than a fight.
Sometimes known as the high road, it's also the path of least resistance. Not a bad thing when ego isn't a factor. Or when you don't give the proverbial rat's ass. .
i was recently challenged by someone who sincerely believed they were speaking for christ.
if christ spoke dire warnings to those who would not follow him, can't his mouthpiece do the same today?
there are so many assumptions tied along that road i barely know how to start.
Do you think the Spirit has divinely inspired any modern writers?
There are gifted writers in all religions but I'm skeptical of those who claim they speak with god or any other invisible spirit. God should be able to speak for hisself and make hisself clear without talent agents who more often than not seem to be at odds with each other in interpretation.

I worried for some time about the conflict between where reason was taking me, and where my heart soars. Now I allow both full rein.
It's a good place to be, is it not?
i've been lurking on the forum for over a year now.
i'm not an ex jw but have some weird connections to the group none the less.. i was raised in the worldwide church of god.
a lot in common with jws.
Welcome to the forum.
Looking forward to comparing notes...;)
Why doesn't anyone hear of the Greeks being offended if the Hellenistic gods are referred to as myths and legends?
for the first time in ages though, i actually re-evaluated my position on god/wt.. i had attended a few funerals in the spring and had also reignited some friendships with people from the hall.
but actually, i just keep going round in circles in my mind.
i cannot back an organisation with such a flawed past and one that endorses such policies as shunning & blood.
What stupid question.
Stupid answer?
It seems grammar isn't your strong suite is it?

So, there will never be an end to evil ?
As far as I can tell evil may end when you die.
did he just say that?
while i have come across this term before i never looked up what it meant.
so while reading about what "peak expreiences" are i came across the term again and decide to give wiki a try.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/self-actualization.
self-actualization is a term that has been used in various psychology theories, often in slightly different ways.
I've worked in the AV industry for 20 years and have seen my share of motivational speakers. There can be a lot of money to be made selling people ideas that make them feel good.
But this is different from therapy for people in need of real help
Some interesting thoughts here
However, I fear these are somehow off topic and that this thread may inevitably devolve into talk of Ferraris and Porches. Both of which have mass.
