Interesting topic. I think that the use of objects in worship has been replaced by the organization. It?s not something physical to hold but the organization is worshiped and followed more than the Bible. And places, how many of thought that a Bethel trip was like a pilgrimage to Mecca?

Art, Worship and the JWs
by Sirona ini was reading the thread about "worldy churches" and it made me think about how the jws have a hatred of certain types of worship.. they hate anything "traditional" and state that it is corrupted (pagan).
they hate going into churches because they see religious symbolism like crosses, altars, candles and chalices.
big ornate churches are not beautiful to them, they are a symbol of satan.

Am I right about the WT being wrong?
by FreedomFrog inhi everyone.... i was "raised" as a dub and got baptised in '86...so in total i had been a jw for over 20 years.
i came to realize that the "way of life" i was living was in fact made up of mostly lies.
i started "questioning" the borg about 6 years ago and finally came out with almostatheist last sept. i know in my heart that they are mostly wrong and very legalist.

FF, I have been dealing with the same feelings,

The true freinds on this board have been very helpful and supportive. But what you are feeling is common. Just have to examine all things and be true to yourself and your own logic.

Would you want to go back to that 'illusion and fantasy'?
by Gill inhi all, and especially scoobysnax as i was just reading your post.. i saw a bit of the news yesterday and the archbishop of canterbury was giving a sermon.
the newscaster said that he was warning about the world's obsession with youth.
i'm not so sure that's what he was saying though.. he said, or words to this effect, that he felt pity for those who believed that they would never grow old, suffer illness and death in this life, and 'god help them' because of the illusion that they were living under.. i don't think he was talking about youth.

what I was saying was that the 'truth' gives them what they believe are certainties.
I think both of us are saying the same thing. Some people want to be TOLD what is certain, some are incapable of figuring it out by themselves. I feel this is a common thread with the type of people that cults attract.

I believe the question posed is, ?Is ignorance bliss?? I truly feel the answer is, yes.
Many truly believe the end is almost here and the WT is very good at burying things such as the UN affair. So in other words, many have no reason to doubt do to the fact that research is so strictly discouraged. And one more thing I have noticed, the WT seems to attract people that are at a disadvantage mentally. Most of the rank-and-file publishers are people that truly need that kind of structure. Some people want to be told what to do. It?s makes life much easier. It?s Sat = service, Sun = meeting, ect?

What's Your Fantasy Job ?
by Taylor S. ini was in nassau sitting on the beach, sipping a 151 pina colada, watching the jet-ski guy, all toned and tanned.
i remember thinking, he's got the coolest job in the world ... sittting on the beach all day, renting & teaching drunk & horny tourists how to ride them.
that's my fantasy .... i wanna be the jet-ski guy.

Daniel's Prophecy, 605 BCE or 624 BCE?
by Little Bo Peep inhello all, i've been reading your site for a couple of years now, and have found, for the most part, it to be very helpful.
i must say, at first i was very "scared" at what i might find, but contrary to what i grew up learning, there is a "wealth" of information outside of the watchtower organization.
i haven't attended meetings for about two years now, and like many i've read about, have spent many hours researching, telling myself "i'm not wrong for searching", and doing more research.

The Daniel book on pages 18-19 correctly state that Nebuchadnezzer ascended the throne in 624 BCE
Correctly states it based on what? Give me one reference not from the WTBTS.
