zaphod....I have been a JW my whole life, started to fade this year after much research, study, reflection, ect.... I can honestly say the rank and file knows nothing about it. To know about it, you would be admitting you visit "apostate" site or read the books. This has been carefully hidden.

un thingy
by zaphod ini've been looking at past posting about the un scandal and was wondering what the r&f dub knows about the situation.. have they all been fed the line about the library card or has there been no official announcement and been dealt with only if particular publishers bring the subject up?.
is it an issue that has caused disquiet in the congrgation or is it still not known to a great extent by members?.

Thinking about Matt 4:21......
by jula71 ini was sitting and thinking of what to write in a da letter, as i've been inspired in a way by a letter i read today.
and one thought i am putting in, is that i have a clean, clear conscience because i believe a loving and understanding god would know that i choose this path due to honest and sincere feelings about the organization.
and i believe a loving god would not destroy a person based on that.

One must do what God wants as expressed in his Law and as explained by Jesus; those who don't do so, including both Jews who follow the Law incorrectly and Christians who don't follow the Law at all, are destined for destruction.
Interesting thought, seems to be a hold over from the days of ancient Israel. Times when God seemingly would kill thousands of "law breakers" in one fatal swipe. I have seen many conflicting verses, for example, Jesus said, to be saved, one only had to believe. Meanwhile many in the 1 st century still held onto pretty rigid laws held over. Which is the proper course of action? One problem I feel is trying to equate the ancient language, cultures, and customs into modern terms. This is why many of us have a hard time understanding or believing the bible. For example scourge brought onto Israel by God. Modern evidence is pointing to an outbreak of disease possibly smallpox or a form of Ebola. Both could be common to the area, spread fast and kill fast. But even we, today are taught they were brought by God to punish. I can see that a primitive culture without modern medical advances would think that, simply not knowing any better. But are we supposed to believe that in today's age?

ya...that's kinda along the lines I was thinking. But JW's use it to show why the followers of those would be killed as well.....

Funny...I heard John Kerry say the same things, before he flipped positions.

And one thought I am putting in, is that I have a clean, clear conscience because I believe a loving and understanding God would know that I choose this path due to honest and sincere feelings about the organization. And I believe a loving God would not destroy a person based on that. But the then I thought of a scripture that has been used to show that even sincere will ones will be destroyed. Matt 4:21-23 " 21 Not everyone saying to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name? 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness." To me that just does not make sense that God would kill people that truly believe they are doing the right thing. I believe that scripture is meant to show that people using God?s name for dishonest reasons would see adverse judgment. Any idea's out there?

Watchtower miscalculation -again
by observer ini'm not sure if this has been presented here before, but this is link to some ewatchmanlike site .
http://www.jehovahsjudgment.com/essay_danielsdays_5.html.
it comments watchtower's current teaching about daniel's "2625 days" and it's miscalculation when it claims that the 2625 days lasted from "january 25 1919 to may 1926".

What I like is how they pick and choose when to apply the day for a year rule......I'm waiting for the new last days....starting in.......Jan. 4544
(1919 + 2625) but I may not be around............

Do you see real people here at JWD?
by jeanniebeanz inwhen people post to jwd, do you make an effort to understand "who" they are and take an interest in their wellbeing, or are they just 'ghosts in a machine' there to entertain you?
do the people here fall somewhere in-between for you?
do you think it matters?

TheGoodGirl is getting hooked, but some addictions are good. But your post is what I was talking about, more apt to talk about "private" matters when you're comfortable. Plus many here have gone through the same thing and are willing to share and give advice as to what they have gone through. For that, I for one am grateful.

What are some Bible contradictions that JWs can't reconcile?
by marked ini remember reading in the reasoning book about how to approach someone at the door who said the bible was full of contradictions.
one of the answers was "many say the bible's full of contradictions but no one's been able to show me an example of one.".
so, what are some examples that jws would have no real canned answer to?.

The easiest contradiction is no particular verse, but the over all theme of free will. The puts a wrench in everything, did Pharaoh, Judas, or Cyrus (if the prophecy really was told before it happened), did any of them have a choice or free will? That theme has been showing up a lot on this board, but very appropriate.

more weird reasoning
by zaphod ina young brother was df'd for having sex with a young single mother with a young daughter who was studying with the congregation.. she got pregnant and they married.
she suffered with mental illness.. the brother sexually abused the young girl.
he was reproved but not disfellowshipped even though he did not go to the police voluntarily and at first denied the abuse.

Sounds like they won't DF him just to keep him nearby....keep an eye on him.

I definitely see real people here, almost more so then people I see everyday. What I mean is with the comfortable feeling of sittin' home or where ever we use our computers, we tend to be comfortable enough to open up more. For some it's easier to type out real feelings rather then say them. Personally, I've formed many real friendships here and very strong support system.
