My guess is that they'll keep calling it disfellowshipped.
Nope, just had an Elder tell me a few weeks ago, those "terms" are no longer used, even in conversation. Now they just say "they are no longer a witness."
i cannot for the life of me remember how i used to refer to ones who were df'd or had da'd while i was a jdub.
i *think* i used to say "so and so was disfellowshipped" rather than "so and so was df'd.
" but i can't remember.. a few days ago, i briefly overheard someone say "was df'd," which caught my immediate attention.
My guess is that they'll keep calling it disfellowshipped.

.
i ran across this discussion for a kids forum.
if any of you have thoughtful kids that are online perhaps they could say something that would help these young ones earlier rather than later.. for kids only - don't go on posing as a kid - they'll probably eat you alive.. http://boards.zeeks.com/messages.php?tk=46tal5xsm2&pg=1

Here's a list of the members of "Skull and Bones"
http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/bones.htm
Pretty funny and scary how many well know people currently in power are in it.
i studied with the jw's on and off for a couple of years and i could never get my head around the belief that 44,000 ( special ones) would be going to heaven and how they themselves worked out that they would be one of them?
i remember at easter one year i was invited to a 'special' meeting, i think they called it "the memorial" or something like that.
anyway, they passed around a goblet of what looked like wine and a plate of broken crackers and everyone just passed it around the whole room, from one person to the next.
I asked that a million times, the only answer I got and keep getting is, "they just know."
growing up as a jehovahs wittness my parents used to rationalize or have a urban ledgends reguarding why we could not do something or why something was evil/bad.
some of these i have heard in various forms around here in the forums.
here are some expamples of what i mean.
The deal with RUSH, one of my favorite bands, was the album cover to 2112. Should have seen my mom's face when she came across it.
ok, so ive been reading this book called schildren of the matrix, which to be honest with you is alot of crock... except a few very thought provoking questions.... i have heard it said that the "founder" of jehovah's witnesses pastor c.t.
russell was a member of the illuminati... this author says that originally the bible students were called the "mind-control sect" by charles taze russell himself... and that he was a member of the illuminati and this was a new way to control more minds and more of the world by the aforementioned group.... what do you think???.
the infamous one
I know Russell was a Mason which is a group with suspected ties to the illuminati, if they exist.
it seems that some people are keen to use disfellowshipping as the measure of anything bad.
if someone is deleted from a forum for being obnoxious then that is akin to being disfellowshipped and is b-a-d. yada yada yada.. is it?.
is every disfellowshipping "bad" simply by virtue of being a disfellowshipping?.
Everything has rules or laws, no matter what you do, work, boards, religions, civil codes, ect.....people have to be responsible enough to realize there are consequences to breaking them. And this board like most things, states the rules and the consequences for breaking them. If someone wants to break them, that's their choice, but they have to accept what my happen if they do.
hi guys, new!
and i'm sure this has been covered, but i find the site has no search for me to look, so sorry if you've discussed it to death.
for the first time last night i came across information about 586 being the actual year jerusalem was destroyed.
Here's a good place to start: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/55372/1.ashx
so i finally decided to get my a** to the library and read some real research on cults.
the book i'm starting with is "psychodynamic perspectives on religion, sect and cult.
in the introduction they mention margaret thaler singer's definition of a destructive cult as an organization in which:a leader claims divinity or special relationship with god.
Here's some interesting definitions I came across:
The American Family Foundation defined cults as:
"A group or movement exhibiting great or excessive devotion or dedication to some person, idea, or thing, and employing unethical manipulative or coercive techniques of persuasion and control (e.g. isolation from former friends and family, debilitation, use of special methods to heighten suggestibility and subservience, powerful group pressures, information management, suspension of individuality or critical judgment, promotion of total dependency on the group and fear of leaving it), designed to advance the goals of the group’s leaders, to the actual or possible detriment of members, their families or the community."
The sociological definition includes such things as “ as authoritarian leadership patterns, loyalty and commitment mechanisms, lifestyle characteristics, (and) conformity patterns (including the use of various sanctions in connection with those members who deviate)”I find the second one interesting, "use of various sanctions in connection with those members who deviate". Sound familiar?
Daniel, I read this post and it looks like I could have written it. I for one am not laughing. It's really hard when family and friends expect you to walk a certain way or do things such as that when your heart and mind is not in it. I'm still trying to figure out what to do and wonder if it gets easier. My thoughts are with you.
