i remember how i wanted to be a pioneer...I thought i would be at the top of the ladder if i could just be a pioneer. I would listen whole heartedly at the assemblies listening to all the so called wonderful experiences...anyway everytime i spoke with a pioneer and expressed my desire to do so the answer i got was "you don't want to do this" i was like damn where's that great pioneer spirit...after awhile i thought the sisters thought i wasnt good enough...now i know that it's because they know it's a bunch of BS!

Slacker Pioneering
by scotsman inas i was reading the thread about not at homes i wondered if anyone else a slacker pioneer?.
there was a bunch of us in our hall that went out on a wednesday.
we usually managed about 45mins before needing a coffee which somehow extended through lunchtime, maybe interupted by a return visit that hopefully wasn't home.

JW working the obituaries
by Icansaylucky ini was reading my local paper this morning and there was a letter to the editor.
the writer had recently lost a child and the child's obituary was recently printed in our paper.
the writer said she received a letter with a "jehovah witness tract" called "what help for dead loved ones?

My baby sneezed today and his granny (a non jw) says bless you and i felt so stupid because it never came to mind to say anything....i know she thinks i'm a bit strange..but i can't help it...i'm socially disabled. I never considered myself to be rude, as a jw i thought we had the best social manners. now reading all the different posts, i can see just how ignorant jw's are.

Did you feel their togetherness and nosiness put you in danger?
by LongHairGal ini know it is an odd question and maybe i am not phrasing it right but i felt with their cult of confession (not just to the elders) but with everybody knowing each other's business it could be a danger.
for example: let's say you were a person who kept a lot of money hidden in your house and you made the mistake of telling one of these wonderful friends - what guarantee did you have that they wouldn't blab it to the wrong person and you could get robbed or something?
i always felt with them that i shouldn't let the right hand know what the left was doing.

I used to say to myself all the time that i thought that there was a serious lack of privacy. Actually someone broke into my apartment once and the police came and investigated and said that the way the robbers came in... it was like the person or persons had been in my apartment before because they didnt ramble around the robbers went directly to what they wanted and knew where it was. We never had anyone over accept JW's.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses Have The Reputation THEY Think They Have?
by minimus inwitnesses believe they are special.
the publications give many examples of how wonderful a witness was viewed upon by a "worldly" person.
kms tell of how so many praise the witnesses for being so "different".....what would you say is the real way people view jws??

thats a good question because we were always told how not to bring reproach because we have such a good reputation and blah blah blah...anybody that i ever told that i was a JW thought i was a wierdo...most people don't know anything about JW's accept that they don't celebrate christmas or birthdays.

What is your favorite Memory?
by swiftbreeze ini hope this has not been a topic lately.... it was christmas day...and i had went to visit some non-jw relatives i was 15 yrs old...and a group of other kids from the neighborhood had all got together on the block, it was snowing and the snow was so fluffy and pretty, so we all started walking down the street singing x-mas songs (we had sipped some spiked egg nog) everyone exchanged little gifts.
we went to different houses visiting and eating.
toward the end of the night we went to my sister's friend house and danced till around 2:00 in the morning..." for the first time in my life i felt free and happy.

I wasnt out knocking on doors with the magazines or sitting home waiting for the holidays to end or at some boring gathering playing bible games. I was out...having real fun...i was young and it felt good to be alive.

pictures...i love pictures, i even have pictures of people i don't know. I like to take photographs of people on the street walking etc...A photograph says so much... it's like a freezing time.
I have a picture of my sister and I in highschool... we got into this club and so we were all dressed up trying to look grown... at the time i thought we were really doing it...but when i look at the picture we look like to little innocent babes dressed in mommie's clothes.

How many of the public go to the Public Talk?
by truthseeker inif you're still going to meetings, how many of the public actually go to the public talk?
or do you see the same old tired worn faces?.
in my hall, you never see a member of the public just come in and say, i'd like to stay and hear this talk.. was there ever a time when complete strangers would just come in, sit down and actually listen?.

I remember a man came in off the street he looked like he had been through alot (drugs etc) and i guess he was tired of it all and wanted to find god. so he came in and sat down...so an elder came over to my husband and whispered in his ear "keep an eye on him" that really pissed me off because 1. they refuse to even let my husband carry the privledged mic even though he was in good standing. 2. that acted as if he wasnt good enough to do contribute anything.
3. but when some rough looking street person stumbles in the hall then they want to call on my husband just in case anything should go down.

Weird Logic
by loosie inlet's hear the weirdest comment or suppossed logical thought you've ever heard a witness say.. i'll start: out in service once a sis and her son were in the same car group as i was.
he was having a nose bleed and told his mom that the blood was running down the back of his throat.
his mother said " well don't swallow it yo uknow how jehovah feels about blood don't you!".

i couldnt find my keys one day before the meeting, and i was late, so i was telling this other jw about how i couldnt find my keys and she said "the devil and his demons sometimes hide stuff from us to keep us from going to the meetings"
i was like "what about when i'm going to work and can't find my keys?"

How Do You Discern If Someone Is Telling The Truth or Lying?
by minimus inwhat signs do you look for in determining whether someone is really telling the truth, outright lying or possibly using "theocratic strategy"??
?

Just let the person talk. Add no pressure. after awhile the lies will slip through...you have to be a good listener though.
