You pop in on all of the political threads saying how silly we all are being and it's all for naught. Yet somehow you feel the need to both read and post on all of them. Telling us a quick quip or joke and how we are all wasting our time. Odd.

regarding iran's nuke program, the evil george bush stood on the sideline and let the europeans do it their way via diplomacy through the u.n. well, iran has basically told them to screw off and has now re-started it's nuke program and seems to have no intention to stop their development of nukes.

this u.n. delegation has now given iran the "eleventh hour warning" which they will laugh at.

soon it will be brought before the u.n. security counsel and a recommendation to impose sanctions against iran will be made and voted upon.

Is Kim Jung IL a con artist? Absolutely. But you did leave out the fact that the US didn't live up to it's part of the agreement either. You know that whole "build them a powerplant" dealio? Of course you are leaving out the whole acceleration process under Bush because of calling them part of the Axis of Evil. So I ask again what would YOU have done differently???

Brenda...why is it that it always comes down to "Love it or leave it" with conservatives??? Hmmm....maybe we should have said that to them when Monica was going down. Um...LOL....no pun intended. I really didn't mean for it to come out like that.

I suggest instead of saying "Love it or Leave it" the US should think about other countries as "Love Them, Learn From Them".

But then again I'm not sure if Bush could find Radical Soviet Canuckistan on a globe.

Stil...come on now. You know that the Bush admin repudiated ANYTHING Clinton. If Clinton did it or thought that way...by God they were going to do the opposite. Do you have any idea of what actually happened with N. Korea in the 90's??? Obviously, you disagree with what Clinton did. Please tell me what YOU would have done differently?
I'm not against Republicans as a rule. It's you conservatives that like to label things Republican/Democrat. I can only contemplate what this country could have been if we could have had a McCain / Bradley election instead of a Dumb / Dumber election in 2000. But I'd hazzard a guess....much better off!

Um....Under Clinton N. Korea had / developed - Zero nukes
Under Bush - 8 to 12

But for arguments sake what would a pan-Europe nuke run Iran look like?

The Germans would build the nuclear warhead to .000001 millimeter tolerance. Only the highest engineered warhead will do.
The French would supply the nuke plant's cafeteria with Brie.
The Swiss would supply the timing / triggering devices.
The Dutch would restart the slave trade to include the Tourag from N. Africa to work on the reactors.
The Irish would serve as crash test dummies for testing.
The Italians would do the design / styling on the warheads.
The Spainards would run administrative functions....well at least Monday thru Thursday w/ 2 hour siestas....oh and 7 weeks holiday per annum.
The Czechs will complain that the Slovaks got security guard duty.
The Slovaks will complain that the Czechs got cigarette vending duties.
The Poles will rise up and unionize everyone under the auspices of Solidarity fighting the communist.....Islamic.....whatever.... overloads.
Luxumborg will not be involved in any way, shape, or form. But they will finance the entire operation.
The Danes will provide the global mapping needed for the nukes "brains".
Russia (yes my American brothers Russia actually IS in Euorope) will provide the fissible material.
Norway will claim that the nuke building in Iran allows them to increase their whaling by 15% in the North Sea. (Don't ask...don't know...they're Norweigians after all.)
The Swedes will provide the mobile launch pads. And yes they will be powered by Volvo.
Greece will smuggle 10% of the parts out of Iran and smuggle back home. They are still pissed about losing to the Romans.
The Turks will fight Greece for smuggling. Those dirty Greeks stole Cyprus!
Little do the Turks & Greeks realize but the Sicilians will steal their swag and with the Portuguese ships will ship them to the highest bidder.
The former Yugoslav Republic's warring factions will still be pulling the rickshaw and taxi duty from the airport to nuke plant.
The English will sit back until the project is over and then declare that since Iran was once a British subject that the queen is now entitled to overseeing the program and wants a 20% cut.
And of course Tehran will become the new chic Euro Trash hang out for all fashionable, chain smoking, uber thin, arrogant, anti-American, university students.

the strain of telling someone they are going to die,.

getting fond of a patient, who dies.. i cannot see that a good doctor is callous.. how many end up alcoholics compared to other jobs.

how does one stay sane when surrounded by so much pain?.

As a doc you learn that death is part of the life cycle. Some do real well with this. Others do not. While the medical profession is filled with many good caring folks, it is also a challenge to many. A challenge of their skills vs. the weakness of the body. A challenge to best the opponent. That the opponent (death, disease, etc.) shall be beat back into the corner. Who is the greater warrior? Death? Not on my watch! Unfortunately these white knights of humanity get beat down by the evil lawyers and the vile insurance companies. Even super heros have their kryptonite. LOL

Brenda...you and I share similar backgrounds. While I am white collar. My travel as a kid was only in the midwest via car. Travel is the #1 educator in my book. Yes, university is good for thinking and careers. But travel is the great equalizer. You see first hand unique cultures and ideas. You also realize that even the "poorest" American's are quite rich by comparision. BUT, also what I learned as a kid was that everyone else wanted to be American and were just jealous of our lifestyle. Whoa! Was I taught wrong.

I learned one of my biggest life lessons from a Costa Rican (Tico) man that ran a surfing boat "taxi". His view on life was truly an inspiration. I met his family and saw how richly yet simply they lived. I was envious.

I learned about kindness to strangers in Chile when a fellow airplane passenger took it upon herself to make sure I saw Santiago from the "locals" point of view. I ate with her family at her home. A complete stranger. I met her older brother who was retired from the American Embassy in Santiago. He took me on a car tour of all the interesting sites of Santiago and gave me quite the history lesson. Of course they would accept no money for any of this.

I've had debates with folks in cafes in Slovenia and Prague. The list goes on and on.

I'm very lucky for all I have. I wished I could have had the opportunities a young Bush had. Carte Blanc to travel with a father who was a US Ambassador and loads of cash. I stopped at youth hostels and whatnot in between semesters at school. Not luxury I tell ya! LOL

But also I think money only seperates you from the true travel experience. Money walls you off from the locals IMHO. But I digress.

Brenda....good point on the China angle. The reasons for war / peace are usually very complex and intertwined. Maybe this is why conservatives like Bush so much. Many conservatives like Bush being an "intellectual lightweight". They like someone that makes decisions with their "gut feel". That this world's problems are really quite easy. You just need to stick to your guns and ideology and things will be ok. "Over thinking and activist governments get us into messes" is the thought process of some of these conservatives I'm willing to wager.

When Dubya was running for president of the United States he could be called the typical nowhere man. He had gone fewer places and gained less worldly experience / culture than any candidate for Prez in modern history. Before becoming Governor of Texas he had been overseas only once from what I can find. He went on a trip to China where his father was stationed working for the CIA.

While I don't demean people who don't travel his stay-at-home mentality is quite common for many Americans. It does stands in contrast to what I expect from MY Prez, especially at a time when many nations look to the US as the world's leader. Imagine if you had every opportunity and financial advatage a young Bush had. Wouldn't YOU have traveled at least A LITTLE BIT?

Maybe it's easy to support right wing commandos in South and Central America when you aren't sure where those countries are. Maybe it's easy to sell arms to Iran (Iran-Contra scandel) and biological weapons to Saddam Hussein, or to invade Grenada, or to invade Iraq on a whim to depose Saddam, when you can't imagine that the people who live there are real people.

How many average Americans (and I would say Bush as well) could tell us how many Panamanians, Afghans, or Iraqis have died in our tragically silly " mundane" wars, or why the torture at Abu Ghriab happened so easily? Could it be that to someone like Bush, people from other countries aren't real?

I agree...but we are wanting to build new weapons for new uses. Tactical nukes for the battlefield theater. "Bunker busting nukes" is what some have called them. Yes we have them (Strategic ICBM's), yes we need them. But we should freeze all development of NEW nukes. Why keep building them if we really are trying to rid the world of them? That's all I'm saying.

Each country will react in their own self interest obviously. However I feel this administration's tactics in building new ones for new purposes really undermines what we are trying to do.

EvilForce get's off soapbox and is heading for lunch.
