WHEW!!!! JESUS save me! I have seen the light! I'm a sinner!!!
My logical and scientific mind has been unshackled from reality!!!! Whoo hooo.
I have put down my laser scalpel and will instead do a laying of the hands on all those sick. PRAISE JESUS! YOU ARE HEALED!!!!
Oh that's right you not Penecostal your a J Rub a Dub Dub. I'll put my laser scalpel down and tell them to WAIT ON JEHOBA!!! And watch them promptly fall over dead.
Why is checking one's intellect such a fundamental part of being a "Uber Christian"?
As Bugs Bunny would say "What a morune".

Just Accept it!!!
by Shining One inhere's a quote from the scientific community about the consciousness: just accept it!
"those things in a way didn't need to evolve," said chalmers.
"they were part of the fundamental furniture of the world all along.

Europe - Do Their Leaders Have the Guts?
by roybatty inregarding iran's nuke program, the evil george bush stood on the sideline and let the europeans do it their way via diplomacy through the u.n. well, iran has basically told them to screw off and has now re-started it's nuke program and seems to have no intention to stop their development of nukes.
this u.n. delegation has now given iran the "eleventh hour warning" which they will laugh at.
soon it will be brought before the u.n. security counsel and a recommendation to impose sanctions against iran will be made and voted upon.

Well I will also add that since Europe spends such a meger amount of it's GDP funding their respective militaries they can't really complain when others do take the lead militarily. Diplomacy has always worked better when backed with real strength to carry out it's will. I really see no reason to keep troops in western Europe except for global logistics support and we should let the Europeans protect themselves as they see fit. Our concern needs to be in Asia with N. Korea and the emergence of China as a world power. Also, from keeping the Pakistanis and the Indians from blowing each other up.
Also, I would rather be building up our Central American friends instead of building up China. I think we should concentrate more effort towards keeping infrastucture and investment closer to home in friendly, peaceful, democratic countries such as Mexico, Nicaragua, Chile, Argentina, and Costa Rica. -

by DevonMcBride inin today's wall street journal there was an excellent article about stem cell research.
the united states used to be number 1 in science research.

Class take a chill pill ! I was asking the question because I was going to suggest (as I am now) that you seek out a bioethicist professor on campus and take him to lunch. You would probably learn alot. Your world may not be so black and white afterwards. I highly encourage you to do this. If you were going to private school I would have pointed you in a different direction.
****While I usually have an answer for everything, I'd have to do more study.****
Usually I find I have a preconceived notion of everything and that my initial stand was wrong quite often ;)
Your debate on what is natural and what is not natural has dogged science and medicine down through the ages. Are organ transplants natural? Is using cadaver tissue natural? Is xenotransplantation natural? Xenografting is it ethical? Human test subjects? The list goes on and on. It's fine to question ethics as we need to continually understand our moral imperatives but schoolyard deity beliefs also need to be left where they belong. In church. -

*****I cloned embryo would still be a person, but it's unnatural to play with natural selection.****
Um...sorry to disappoint but nature itself is the greatest cloning agent. In about one of every 75 human conceptions, the fertilized ovum splits for some unknown reason and produces monozygotic (identical) twins. Each has an genetic makeup identical to the other. In cloning, this same operation is done intentionally in a laboratory. So again how is cloning "unnatural"?
Question for you Class.....do you go to public university or to a private/Bible college? -

I posed a question earlier....what about a cloned cell then? A clone would meet your definition of life. Are you for cloning then I assume?
Currently there is genetic material that is being discarded. Logic would dictate what we use this for what we could, as simply throwing it away makes it go to waste. Not using it would be irrational and not logical. Using embryonic stem cells and such IS THE LOGIAL decision.
When I said "forcing it down our throats" it was intended at the conservatives in general that are opposed to stem cell research....not necessarily you specifically. But my point is...while I accept your decision to not use any treatments from embryonic stem cells as your fundamental right (although you haven't answered my question about that)...conservatives opposed to this are actively trying to STOP ME from choosing what I deem to be acceptable. Vast difference.
Surely you can see the irrationality of your argument. -

I was editing my post while you were writing yours. Doh!
Being human IS irrational. Humans are NOT logical. Your stand Class is the epitome of illogical thinking. Yet you somehow have deluded yourself into thinking your stance is the more logical solution and the rest of us are all irrational. Why can't you admit you are being illogical and making an emotional, hence irrational moral judgement call? Be honest for crying out loud.
Your choice is a value judgement. Nothing more. Nothing less. Just as my stand is MY value judgement. -

Cannibalism isn't what we are talking about here. But I would like you to answer again if you would vow an oath never to use research, treatments, or therapies that were derived from embryonic stem cells. Can you honestly say/vow this?

Suppose your Dub wife needed a blood transfusion? [just suppose]
by BluesBrother ina hypothetical question... it is easy to make decisions for oneself, or for children who come under your jurisdiction, but suppose that your consent were to be requested for emergency treatment involving blood, to a person that is a diehard witness?.
i am talking of a person that has spent her entire life in the borg and believes that blood transfusions are a sure pathway to contract aids or something else nasty.
if she were conscious i am not convinced that she would accept even the treatments with blood fractions, that they do allow.
-
EvilForce
Speaking from strictly a PERSONAL point of view, not professional, of what I would do with MY relatives and my relatives only. I would make sure the blood was administered and would not tell the person. I know what the society says about those who have been given transfusions against their will not being "bloodguilty" they are innocent. Fine...I'll stand before their God to be judged then.
Just because a child doesn't like taking medicine or believes putting salve on a wound is evil...I'm not going to let fear and ignorance dictate whether someone lives or dies. -

About my vegetarianism.....if I'm on a deserted island w/ a wild boar as the only food soure.....I win. I'm building a fire and having a pig BBQ....or a pig picken as they say in da South. Ideology is easily supported in the abstract. Harder to do so in the here and now.
I like living. I imagine I always will. Is it fair? I don't know. All I know is that I've fought hard to get where I am now. I'll probably keep on fighting in 20, 30 or 40 years too.
